- Landscape Woodland Photography is something I've wanted to do for a very long time. Inspired by other landscape photographers on CZcams such as Simon Baxter, Adam Gibbs and Nigel Danson (the list is longer) this first episode was such a joy to make. I'm super proud of it and I hope you all enjoy it. This is also the first in a series of videos I'll call Tales from the Forest (super cliché name I know, but it's all fun and dandy ;)).

Wow! I agree, I like all three photos very much and felt quite at peace watching you create them. I enjoyed listening to the birds chirping and the crunch of leaves beneath your feet. The moss on the first tree was incredible. The backlit leaves and greens in the second photo, stunning. Ah, but the third photo- tells a story! What that story is to you, is probably different for each person looking at it. For me, the young tree surrounded by a group of larger trees brought to mind a scripture from the Bible that I am studying right now from Hebrews 12:1 "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses....let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us..." If the larger trees could tell thier life stories, what would they say to the young one? What encouragement would they give? How have they managed to persevere through the seasons and years? Who has walked among them, or taken refuge under thier branches, or dared to climb their trunks? How many other young trees came before this one, but did not survive? Thank you very much for the inspiration, Mads!

A new photgraphic chalenge. You are moving from your confort zone and I really like the results. I felt the calmness of the forest and your photos transmited the atmosphere.

I was amused by your perception of your forest in Denmark with the lack of gnarly oaks like you'll find in Scotland and England. Where I live, Nova Scotia Canada, the woods are thick, mixed forest with an abundance of conifers mostly outweighing the deciduous trees and the forest floor covered with thick brush. Unlike the nice clean forest and the spacious area between the forest floor and the first set of tree branches which look to be ten feet from the ground where you are. I am constantly looking for such a forest here but they are few and far between. Mass chaos is the norm here.
Simon, Adam and Nigel, as well as yourself, are all wonderful photographers and I often wonder what they would do in my "neck of the woods" when it comes to woodland photography.
My favourite image from your set is the last one and I await your next visit to the Danish woodlands to see what you can capture for us.
It’s all about the light and shadows in the forests. Lots of leading lines in forestry plantations, just have to find the ones that appeal. Nicely done Mads. Certainly agree with that favourite photo,
My personal opinion is that you should do this a lot more. This is so much more pleasing to watch than the millions of videos from the Faro islands. This is unique to your contry and you should be proud to share it. Number 3 and 1 is my favorite.
Sounds like you don't like the Faroes :p it's only like 14 videos.
@@MadsPeterIversen of course I like the Faro's. But lately it has been kind of overexposed. It was on my bucket list but now I feel I have seen it all. Unfortunately. Iceland however has a lot more variety in my opinion. My most important message though was that it was so new and refreshing to see what Denmark has to offer. And I want to see more. Keep up the good work.
There is real magic in the forest - if you're prepared to look. Wonderful video. I really like your presentational style too. Engaging passion and knowledge blended with easygoing charm.
We can't all travel to locations were grand vistas are everywhere so a tutorial about how to get the best from the "more mundane" locations is of great value, thankyou.

Since most of my landscape photography is done close to home, I watched this video with great interest and enjoyed it tremendously. Each of your woodland images has a lovely ethereal quality, but I, too, like the third image best.

Totally different but i enjoyed this video. The 3th picture "the youngster surrounded and protected by his older brothers" is also my favorite. It tells a story.
It's more a challenge to make a good composition in my neighborhood because just like you i like mountains, waterfalls, rough seascapes etc and in my area it's all flat and many houses and human influences.
can't wait to see more.

I live in Colorado, Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone, Moab... accessible to many places photographers pay fortune to visit in a few hours or a day but I always dream of Danish forests with soft beautiful light. This brought me a big smile.

Shooting our local area is rewarding when I just get up from the table and get out there . But the the right and left hemisphere debate..stay and the other says get out there!

Really appreciated your use of silence in this one Mads. No need for music. Just the calm and ambient sounds of your surroundings. It’s something of a rarity these days. Lol but really captured the feeling of taking a solitary walk through the woods. Very immersive.

Living in Kiel in northern Germany I struggle with the flat lands without vantage points when going out to do some photography. This great video is very inspiring and shows you can take great photos in the cultivated woods we have around. Makes me want to go out into the woods immediately!

Finding the 'special' elements in familiar surroundings is a worthy and eye opening challenge, and such an important one. It is so easy to value nature in fantastic and remote locations, but valuing the little things in our own backyards is what will make us care enough to take the necessary steps to preserve all of our wild spaces. Looking forward to seeing more of Denmark!

Whoa!!! The last photo of a small tree surrounded by larger trees in a circle is just epically composed by nature and you my friend got to capture it. Kudos on the shots. Truly inspiring.
The third photo is indeed fantastic. I have a similar forest nearby but sometimes find it hard for things not to blend together. Maybe I need to have more patience for the right light.

I really enjoy the story of the third photo, the story that it tells. The way the older trees circle the younger tree. I'm not sure how it speaks to you, but to me it is quite rich in lore. Absolutely love it.

It's amazing how a simple photo can bring such joy to a passing photographer. You continue to amaze with your lovely images and stellar video. The stand-ups using the distant camera were unexpected and appreciated. Pointing out the positives in this vlog would take far too long and too much space. I have followed you since your trip to the western part of my country. I concur with your assessment of that portion of America. Finally, I am impressed when someone, such as yourself, points out how he/she is motivated by those that inspire him/her. Great to see you out of your comfort zone!
I like all of the images, but I agree that the 3rd is wonderful - looked like the larger trees were "protecting" the smaller one. The essence of "story"!

Virkeligt inspirerende videoer fra de danske skove! Dit 3. billede i denne video, er helt oppe i toppen af noget af det bedste du har eksekveret. Jeg har ikke set alle dine videoer (endnu) - men fulgt dig og andre udenlandske fotografer de senere år. Og baseret på at jeg selv opholder mig i DK, er det dejligt at se at det ikke kun er mig selv der har udfordringer med det danske landskab vi omgiver os med. Vi mangler naturligvis det åbenlyse med bjerge, vandfald, klipper osv. Men du viser at det bestemt kan lade sig gøre at lave spektakulære billeder med det vi har til rådighed.
Jeg håber virkeligt du vil blive ved med at lave videoer fra netop DK. Det i sig selv er jo også en udfordring, og en del af det at komme ud af komfortzonen, da scenerne i DK ikke er helt så åbenlyse og ligefremme som eks. Island og norditalien.
Og det stiller store krav til evner - som du jo i høj grad mestre!
Dine videoer er seværdige, specielt disse omkring DK lokationer. De er meget forklarende og lærerige, baseret på at du også er en fortrinlig formidler. Fulde af tips, og giver mod på at jeg selv fortsat pisker mig af sted.
Netop skovfotografering er en hård nød at knække - men du inspirerer virkeligt med gode tips, til at få det til at lykkedes.
Håber jeg en dag kan slå følgeskab med dig på en tur rundt derude.

Ja, det er en hård nød at knække, og har selvsagt taget mig noget tid, men er virkelig passioneret omkring det nu. Det omtalte billede er også et af mine yndlings fra i år og det hænger allerede som et stort print på væggen.

I love the images that you captured and the third one is the best in my opinion. I would have darkened a bit more the highlights if they where mine but its just my opinion. The photographers you mentioned I follow them too as they are great photographers. Keep up the good work.

There are a lot of woods around me that also lack the ancient feeling. They tend to be a chaotic mess of brush and downed trees. My favorite woods image comes from a small grove behind my apartment. It was the same story as your last picture, a small tree about to be lit with filtered sunlight. Needless to say your last picture is my favorite from your video, but I like the other images too.

Mads, I really enjoyed the walk through your ‘young’ forest, so fresh & benign, and easy to walk through. Our native Australian forests are so different, whether they are in arid areas or tropical areas. Some forests you have to pull your way through! Yours look to be so relaxing to stroll through. All your shots impressed me. Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting video, third photo was also my favourite, initially thought a square crop would have been better but the trees on the edge do complete the feeling of circling the smaller tree.

I loved this video Mads. All 3 images are beautiful, peaceful and calming. That said, I do love the story of the little tree growing in the middle of the older trees. Old and young together. 2 thumbs up :)

Great video, I like the grand scenes also, particularly coastal but there is something more calming and less brutal about finding something pleasing and relaxing like a forest or river, and taking time to capture how it makes you feel. Great video as usual! As most landscape photographers dream about shooting the grand vistas I go for the humble vistas. This video was a real inspiration in my quest trying to convey the light and tranquil mood of the more humble and overlooked parts of the landscape. As I live in Gothenburg your backyard looks and sounds very much like my backyard:) I'm really looking forward to more videos in this series!
Great video Mads. Really inspiering actually. Woodland photography is hard but you manage to handle it just fine. The images was really nice. Your approach to finding subjects and pre-visualise your shotts is a great reminder of how important it is to think before photographing.
In Sweden we have an abundance of forests so we cant complain about the lack of trees.. :D Unfortionally its not so mutch of the nice "gnarly" moss covered, wet and misty forrest you find in Simon Baxters and Adam Gibbs videos but there is lots of images to be had. The tricky part is to find them within the chaos of the woodland. Regards / Andreas

Very serene atmosphere Mads which you complimented very well in post production. Loved the presence of the large tree in the first image and the final image was beautiful with the older trees being offset by the younger tree. Would be interesting to see how the scene differed in foggy/misty conditions

Great video and images! Although all those vids from the stunning locations around the world are entertaining to watch, recently I feel more inspired by this kind of local exploration and photography. There is no expensive and time consuming travel and pretty much anybody can obtain such wonderful images with the comprehension and sense for composition and light. These images are unique and will not be reproduced a thousand times on IG. I think this video might motivate more people to go out and appreciate the nature around us.

I liked your second shot better than the first. Shooting in the forest is so problematic unless one has "unique" trees, flowers and/or color. I think it is great that you are attempting to shift attention to something other than your usual ones. As I'm not as good a photographer as you, I struggle even more in the forest trying to find something to photograph. I'm impressed by the forest but can't find a way to bring that out in the forest. Thanks for showing your "quest"!
Erich Stocker it definitely takes a keen eye and some training to come away with something that compositionally makes sense.

Very inspiring Mads. I feel very much the same living in northern Germany, in fact the forest you were in could have been any one of a number local to me. I’m sure that photos are there to be had it’s just a lack of inspiration and motivation that is stopping me going to take them. I’ll definitely make some time over the next week or so to go exploring.
The first step is to find the scenes and previsualize them, then you can get back under better conditions :)

Love this video. Thank you for the inspiration. I live in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. and trees are our way of life here. While I am drawn to photograph our older forests, this reminds me that beauty can be found in the younger forests too.

I had the remote in my hands and practiced it once before I got it. Couldn't make the intelligent flight mode work as I was too low so had to do it manually.
