FOGGY Woodland Photography in Denmark | Tales from the Forest - Episode 2
Vložit
- čas přidán 16. 09. 2019
- In this 2nd episode of my series of woodland landscape photography from Denmark, I get up early to photograph the morning fog. The forest was so ethereal, moody, and ominous and it made for some fantastic woodland photography. I even got a huge surprise when I came home and one of the photos were way better than predicted!

I’m not sure what’s wrong with the five people who’ve disliked this video, but I would encourage them to watch it again, but this time with their heads pulled out of their rears LOL.. What a beautiful forest - such a neat place to fly the drone! And the photos you came away with, absolutely incredible… simple, subdued, and they immediately engage the imagination. Well done 👌🏼
Thank you so much, Brian! :)
Another episode of your magic and mystery in the forest.
that has to be the PERFECT density of fog! such a win!
Love the mood fog adds to a photograph.
What a great morning for photography. My favorite is the third photo with the three trees on the left, but all are lovely.
What you have there is priceless. I used to love taking forest photos around where I live. From scenic to macro the woods have always been my favorite. But that is almost no more. The dreaded Honeysuckle has choked and clogged almost every part of the woods right down to just a patch of trees. Where once I used to be able to walk through the woods and photograph the beautiful Spring wildflowers, one now needs a machete. Most of the native flora is gone. Very sad. No one even seems to care. Non-native invasive species like the Honeysuckle bush can and will overwhelm an entire ecosystem in 20 years. To top that off, the Chinese Ash Borer has wiped out millions of Ash trees in the Midwest US and is spreading, costing billions of dollars.
Oh, that's so sad to hear! :( I think it's mainly a question about ignorance in regard to invasive species. We definitely need to take care of our forests!
The silver birch shot was gorgeous!
I live in BC and I have a large second growth park very near me, where we walk the dog or just go for walks. It's a very different type of forest than where you are here, and it's beautiful, but the simplicity and tidyness of the forest floor where you are makes things a lot easier to make 'simple' compositions. That said, I need to resolve to make more images of my nearest, dearest forest, and find such rewarding compositions. As always, an inspiring and enjoyable video. Cheers!
I'm off into the woods for some fog (hopefully!) so came here for some inspiration! Great images as always.
Nice Video. The photos are amazing too. The play of light and shadows is so good in these photos (here i was referring to photos from episode 1). It shows that if you scout around and have enough patience then you can always find some good locations to photograph. Of course the eye and creativity of the photographer plays a very important part too. All the photographers I follow including you, Nigel Danson, Thomas Heaton, Simon Baxter always stress the importance of scouting for a location. You guys are really inspirational.
Thank you very much! 🙏
Beautiful, Mads! I love your editing, as well.Thank you.
Really love the mood in this video and the pictures! I think the motive definitely can be called EPIC!
Great work Mads. Love to see you so exited exploring the woods. I know the feeling. Thanks for sharing. It’s very inspiring.
Your photos are incredible but it's not just that. Your whole video is art!
Thank you so much, Aris! That means a lot. It's one of my favorites :)
I love this series. Your videos and commentary give me such a sense of peace and inspiration. You are very blessed and talented. Before you even said you I am in Love" with the first little tree- your eyes were shimmering and gave your emotion away :) I also loved the second more gnarly tree- It seemed to be almost dancing and twirling among a sea of stoic pines. AWESOME!
the twisted oak is beautiful
Stunning shots!
Just finished the video. It`s a grey day here in Norway. Inspired from your video I am headed for the forrest. Thank you!
The look of sheer ethereal joy on your face was priceless in the first image. I loved how the light in your images was so white and pure, crisp. The video looked darker as I would expect it to be in the moment. The joy of the light matched the joy you showed throughout. I would say you captured these moments of emotion perfectly.
Fantastiska bilder Mads! Tack för inspirationen! 🙂👍
After watching your videos on composition I can see more clearly your thought process in this shoot. Subject, balance, separation, mood. Yesterday I thought that your tips would help me to take fewer shots (on film) but today the confidence in identifying a good composition ha resulted in more exposures! This is fun!
Always enjoy your commentary. Thank you.
Great stuff Mads.
Take a bow Sir 👏👏👏
Haha! Thanks a lot, Steve :)
That does it. I'm out to the forests tomorrow at dawn. Lovely Mads. Fog is my happy place.
Good luck!
So beautiful! Looks like forest in Sweden!
Wow, excellent Mads! that's a nice looking woodland. I'm guessing that the trees have been planted? but the uniformity with the odd deciduous tree thrown in looks to be fantastic. Well done, loved it.
Thanks a lot, Adam. Yeah it's my guess too, however most of the trees in the area where I photographed doesn't stand in lines, so maybe not 🙂
Really stunning to see you create. thank you,
Thank you very, very much. I greatly appreciate all the kind words :)
Great video and pictures, really like the 2nd image in particular. Love mist and fog for woodland photography.
Really nice, Mads. I used to live on the west coast of Denmark - very similar to what you show here. Makes me "homesick"!
Another beautiful shot.
Great video Mads. Really loved the images you got.
Mads, your quiet discussion in the early morning walk in the woods was so calming. I saw the first little tree as you approached the scene. The expression on your face of “love” for the tree made me laugh out loud! Very nice video. It’s nice to go with you as you get out of you comfort zone.
Inspiring as always Mads!
Wow! Amazing work! 😎
A very enjoyable video! I really liked the feeling of serenity your images from here portrayed.
Love the Silver Birch shot, just epic! great vid Mads.
Hi Mads, thanks for sharing and great to see an episode from the Nordics. It certainly inspires me to explore the woods in Skåne. Keep up your good epic work. Cheers Mats
Thanks Mads for the inspiration
Absolutely stunnig image at 8-15!!! Awesome!
Thanks a lot, Konstantin :)
Absolutely stunning photos and another great vlog
Awesome episode, thanks Mads !!
Really enjoyed this Mads. Found it to be both inspiring and relaxing. Thank you sir 👍🏻
stunning shots as always Mads - blown away!!
I really enjoyed this one Mads. Living in the desert, foggy days are a rarity.
Mads, super video! Thanks for illustrating how to capture the beauty in the every day! Very much inspired by your ability to isolate the subject in a somewhat chaotic scene... Cool!
very impressive, MAGNIFICENT !!!!
beautiful video Mads, the location is beautiful too, you bring it as a true storyteller with an enormous love for the forest.
Outstanding,Thank you so much
It's amazing how much fog can change the mood of a location and the photos. Excellent video...I love the image of the gnarly tree with the knothole!
Just epic and excellent
What an absolutely beautiful morning of fog. The photos you came away with are so calm and moody and just gorgeous!
Awesome, the photography, video and drone footage along with the sound track just make fantastic watching for me, great inspiration to get my camera and shoot. looking forward to the next two episodes :)
Wow that image of the silver birch is superb
This was a great video. Your pictures help me to see forests differently and I am learning to see and to simplify.
I love to hear your passion and emotion for the beauty you are seeing.
Your epic location videos are outstanding, but I enjoyed this one tremendously because I live in a similarly wooded area. You came away from this shoot with some wonderful images.
Thank you very much, Jami :)
Its incredible how you managed to pull that image of the silver birch from that foggy raw file. The end result is a really lovely image, and as you say the crop works perfectly. Lovely video Mads, thorough enjoyed it
Spellbound!!!
Beautiful! You took some really great shots!
Great video Mads. Nice drone work, and cracking shots.
Brilliant video👍👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌
Love the silver birch shot!
that third picture! WoW
Not too shabby Mads you managed to grab some excellent shots i cant wait till fall kicks in here. Fog, color and early morning light is the perfect recipe for a fantastic image!
This is really beautiful
fantastic Mads, the lone birch shot is Epic .. :)
The silver birch image was quite pleasing to look at. Sometimes the forest can dare you to enter into its darkness (personally, I like that feeling when I am hiking). The way you processed the image makes it feel like a friendly invitation to enter. Nice job, Mads.
Beautiful images; I love fog and trees! Amazing what you pulled out of that silver birch image.
Thanks a lot. Yes, was very surprising to me too :)
Still epic in it's own right, beautiful birch image and great video!
Thanks a lot, John!
Amazing images, oh my lord
Inspiring stuff, Mads. I myself struggle to find compositions in Denmark, but this vlog has inspired me to try and go out and find my own unique and beautiful photos and make a video about my weird 'disconnection' with my motherland and the immediate landscapes close to my home. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful Mads. You made several outstanding images from your foggy day in the forest. I love them all.
Thank you, Richard! Means a lot. I'm very satisfied myself :)
Stunning shots, Mads. It's incredible how far you can push raw-files these days. Well done!
Thanks a lot, Jonas! Yes, I was really surprised how clean it came out. Usually there are always many artifacts using it this hard.
@@MadsPeterIversen Yeah, artifacts are usually an issue when pushing shadows - I know that the Sony's keep up extremely good in shadow recovery though :) I know that post processing doesn't do it all alone - you captured those compositions extremely well!
I think my favorite photo is the one with all the very straight pine trees, and then that one curvy tree with the hole in it. Such character in a tree makes it stand out, especially when isolated in fog.
You really manage to convey the mood of the scene and beyond that, inspire us to get up early and go out shooting. And this is the first and most important step in landscape photography: getting there to take that shot. Hopefully the epic one! (No pun intended :) )
This video is absolutely my favorite so far, I really love forest, especially when in foggy day, thanks a lot for sharing and inspiring me 🙏🙏
Thank you so much, Ogik! It's one of my favorites too!
Using the drone for the composition angle is great. Great vlog aswell. Thnx Mads.
Very nice images , very inspirational ....
Thank you
That was so lovely. Your images of this location are very beautiful. I really enjoyed that you made 2 episodes - I love forest locations. Thank you very much for these videos.
Thanks a lot, Wendy. Episode 3 will be out in three weeks time :)
Everything seemed so still in the woods. Very atmospheric indeed. Loved your mood, that the woodland made you feel.
Yes, very much. That first place was like... aaahhh I got a nice photo ;)
I very much appreciate the purpose of these two videos. It's nice to know that I don't have to travel to Iceland or New Zealand to take great landscape photos.
Beautiful images. Would love to see you continue this series through the seasons.
That'll definitely happen!
Hey Mads! I'm mostly a woodland photographer and just wanted to say that the conditions you got on that day simply amazing! you got all the ingredients to get beautiful photographs. I have to agree that my favorite photo was the same as yours. Can't wait to see more of these videos! Great job as always!
Thanks a lot, Leire :) happy to hear that from an experienced woodland photographer :)
Awesome examples of pulling extraordinary images out of ordinary landscapes. Confirms that there is great beauty all around us. Thanks Mads!
There is indeed. It's about finding out where exactly to point the camera :)
I really like this kind of slow rythm type of videos. Great job!
Thanks a lot. Yes, I like it to. Very zen :)
you nailed it once again. Well done
Thank you, Brian! :)
@@MadsPeterIversen You have a good manner and attitude, which is refreshing. I wish you every success in life:
Mads, your forests must be a delight to walk through. Such a peaceful atmosphere.
Yes, they are very much. We have quite a lot. It's about finding those special places :)
Lovely stuff Mads x
Thanks a lot, James!
I’ll have to watch the first one but all I can say about this one is...WOW! Definitely going in my favorites. I love how simple all the shots were and the settings were equally as impressive.
Thank you so much! Such kind words :)
Lovely images and video. Thank you for sharing. I’ve just stumbled across your channel and it looks great.
Thanks a lot, Marc. Curious to hear how you stumbled across it? Suggested videos?
I’m really glad you didn’t give up on that ‘solo birch’ that was stunning! What a beautiful spot...now make sure to go back when the leaves change! :)
Simply exquisite....this to me is beyond epic and the accompanying music perfectly suits the mood of this landscape! Thanks so much for sharing this incredibly beautiful video.
Thank you, Paula! :)
Wow , your emotions certainly came though in the video and the images. Child in a sweet shop as we would say in England. Big smiles all round.
Fantastic stuff.
MJ
Thanks a lot, Mark! :)
Beautiful place. Every frame in this video is photogenic. Thanks.
Thanks a lot, Pankaj!
Excellent footage, nice smooth travel through the trees, love the still at 5:47
Great video! I like the slow pace of it. The music fits to the forest scenes.
Thanks a lot, Yvonne. That's exactly the purpose :)
love this series, they are very inspiring as i live in denmark
Thanks a lot! Yes, it could work for many places as it's only "average" forests :)
Mads the forest looked like a very relaxing walk, filtering out life’s stress so you can simply enjoy.
Very much, gotta admit I was working a bit fast, so not completely zen ;)
