I joined the TST for political reasons, but then I came across their unbaptism ceremony. I did my own - I wish I could attend a group one but there are instructions for doing your own - and it was a very emotional, freeing ceremony. I don’t even go to our reunions because it’s so depressing. Gen Z is facing problems just as real and just as traumatic, with the viability and the awareness to turn their tragedies into meaningful movements that are difficult if not impossible to ignore.
I used to be reticent about how deeply entrenched screens were in my kids’ lives but as they’re growing up now, I see the kind of impactful differences it makes when they fully understand the environment that they’re in. They’re way more likely than I was at their age to talk to me about something that’s really bothering them. I’ve fostered that level of engagement and worked hard to earn that level of trust. I’m convinced they’re just going to keep going. They believe in a better tomorrow and that’s really the one thing that we could truly hope for when it comes to the next generation. They say kids today aren’t like they used to be. I say “thank goodness that’s true.” ❤

Doesn't the bible say repeatedly to love everyone, be they your friends, family, strangers, or your enemies? Exclusive (i.e. intolerant of basically any diversity) Christians always boggle my mind with the inherent hypocrisy they're engaged in daily. As someone who started becoming more Christian during the last few years while also valuing the importance of the separation of church and state, I'll say that I fully support what the Satanic Temple people are doing. With that said, the one thing that really irks me is that there's now an extra layer of semantic issues whenever the word "satanism" comes up. Before having a constructive conversation with anyone on this topic, we have to figure out what they _think_ "satanism" means, which differ greatly from person to person.

My mom and I didn't get along because I was pursuing music while doing youth ministry and we didn't talk for the 2 years before my dad died. My stipulation after my dad died to help repair my family's relationship was for my mom to do family therapy with me but she sought out a Christian counselor instead and all the Christian counselor wanted was for me to go to a Christian commune. The entirety of the sessions was based around GOD and the last session was filled with quoting scripture and a huge push to get me into the Christian commune. In 1972 George Pryce started the working foundation for Game Theory as it applies to Natural Selection, and more specifically where that Natural Selection works without the structures of societies for social creatures, from ants and bees and cattle to humans... Altruism is one facet by which your Genetic Code is actively TRYING to preserve itself through values of the society and social orders and structures around you.
Thus, it's the worthy investment "to be a good person" simply to earn the social value via Game Theory and society will reciprocate, either directly back to you (respect, honor, and other intangible values through to tangible actions) OR for your family (shared genetic code) from the same intangibles, motivating tangible actions... "Out of respect for your father..." and the like.
It's worth note that while considerably more has been proposed since, and as with anything, Academia is still arguing it out... Pryce did all this with math on his own, and WITHOUT citing anyone else's work. In the 1970's that was almost completely unheard of...
I don't need any boogeymen telling me to "Be good or else" either... I've weighed it out and decided when and where and just how much I'm going to "be good". ;o)

Every generation just pretends they aren't, says young people are "finally" doing something, complains about the younger gen, etc. We have an extremely long history of shutting them down instantly and then complaining they won't do anything. If people were more self aware, we'd stop undercutting and dogging on young people/new generations whenever it's convenient.
We claim to want things to get better (on every side of politics, philosophy, belief, etc)... Yet the only thing people can really agree on is going after the younger generations - whether small underhanded slights, huge campaigns, or creating a way to keep them out as a society.

I think we see far too much of american right politics seeping into our right of politics, and it's a disease. watching the Americans is like seeing the future. the ramping up of anti-trans rhetoric right now is just copy and paste basically. It's gross. So being aware of what's going on over there is a good thing really. Means we can foresee the bull-dust that will no doubt hit our shores any minute now.....

Honestly, that guy made a great point I hadn't truly considered before. Most Christians don't do a lot of active worship or partake in rituals or traditions, they just have a belief system and vaguely reference it. They're still allowed to be considered religious. By that measure, Satanic temple members who have a belief system but don't do much with it should be considered religious too. I totally see what he means.

It might go against what YOU personally want the word to mean, but it doesn't go against "the definition". @@Damnitjim7 Not everything is that simple. Darwinism isn't the belief that Charles Darwin was a god. Some people who say their Satanists are simply people who were raised Christian by assholes they want to thumb their noses at while making it clear that they're never going to bow down to their parent's proselytizing. Some just want to creep out Christians in general. Some hate how much Christians influence politics, and want to see Muslims and people from other religions able to enter politics. Not make laws based on their own religion, just be able to be a politician in the USA without being persecuted.
Not that I understand them completely, it's just obvious from interviews I've seen from them that they aren't just trying to get into hell with the belief they'll become demons and torment others instead of being the tormented. That would be dumb. Regardless of whether they believe there is any truth in the bible or not.

Rape is an action, and people don't need to believe in it to know vile human beings commit acts of it because there is news about such things weekly and far too many accounts of it throughout history. Also very bazar comparison to make unless you are trying to equate Satanists to rapists which i think was your intent, assuming you were incognizant of the non sequitur.

When I did some research into satanism and what it actually means in most cases for a creative project I was working on, I ended up chatting with a few people who align themselves with satanism in an online forum and one of them summed up his belief and understanding on his belief in satanism in that it was more about "worshipping" oneself, and not in an arrogance or narcissistic way but almost like the self love movement, giving yourself the freedoms you give others, respecting oneself as you would others, boosting yourself up. He said that the whole connection to "Satan" is more of an idea, similar to what was said here that "Satan" is looked at as a "fictional" or "mythical" entity.
It was incredibly interesting (honestly might have start researching it again 🤔). But the jist I got was that it's mostly about values of self belief and confidence for most of those I spoke to, and that "Satan" was just a way of shunning the typical belief systems and a way of creating tradition that could be universal in a belief system that is actually very individual and personal. That Satanism is different for every "Satanist" because the whole point is that while it is a "religion" it is not a system like those most people think of when you say "religion".
It's about oneself as opposed to a self created supernatural overlord who dictates what life is and how it should be lived. It felt like a way to give oneself autonomy in the belief of destiny and the meaning of life.
*Disclaimer: I only chatted with a handful of self confessed "Satanists" and this was several years ago so I'm not saying this is definitively what "Satanism" is, this is just anecdotal stuff I came across 😊

I absolutely love the way this Sunday show is developing. Zaid established himself as a star the very first time he appeared on screen, but the editorial decisions and production for the Sunday drop really mark out this as a mustn't-miss. It's wonderful the way the Sunday show is creating its own atmosphere and identity. Whereas much of the US is still struggling for its second cup of coffee, I'm in the UK and the Sunday show marks the time I can reach for a glass of wine and just contemplate the week that's gone by. If our generation (millennials/Gen z) voted in higher numbers we would run this country. But they just don’t, 75% of them at least. Primaries matter, it’s not just a general election.
