for all the pros on here saying "just go to a salon, don't risk it, etc..." Sounds like sound advice, if only it was more affordable to have the luxury to do so on the regular. It's literally why these videos exist.
Right... and it’s not that we don’t appreciate our hairdresser’s talents - we do! It’s just we can’t always pay the price and we have to make do with DIY jobs. So instructional like this can be very helpful and again, appreciated.
Kim Howard any kind of beauty service is considered a luxury service , that’s why we’ve paid so much to go to school because professionals are the ones who are supposed to do hair to maintain its health. CZcams university isn’t a real thing and people think they can skip out on the education and just do it themselves when that’s not how it works.
I’m not saying that in a rude manner at all I promise , I’ve just seen so many people mess up their hair from trying to do it themselves then they end up having to pay twice as much to get it fixed . Balayage and special techniques should be done by a professional that has the education to back it up , coloring your hair at home of course can be done by someone DIY , but highlights and special techniques etc I feel should be handled by professionals who know the ins and outs of how the hair works and how to maintain its health . ❤️❤️
@@browsandbeautybycait4680 and it's okay too for people who can not afford it to diy. No big deal.
@@browsandbeautybycait4680 yes the only reason this is simple for her is because she is a hairstylist. I am licensed and I don't even do my own hair
Every one of her technique videos are laden with comments from "professionals" chastising and demeaning anyone who says they will try this in just the most inappropriate way. The insecurity has a toxic air, but completely fails to realise that there armys of single moms, small town girls without a decent salon, working through college etc all willing to take a chance vs doing without, they have every right, it's their own hair, they arent liable to anyone else, and many of them do a good job, al learn from it regardless. One day they will have the money to spend, and will find the right stylist for them, dont hate and it may be you. Personally I got tired of crying over a $300 bad color, cut and style, so as I learned I laughed at myself instead. My hair now has never been healthier, and I have never been happier, we weren't all meant to be your clients, don't feel bad, I do my own mechanics too because women are beasts!!!
Finally someone said this in a succinct way. Not to mention, I cannot tell you the countless articles I’ve stumbled upon that are meant for professional hairstylists/colorists that give advice and ways to make ‘idiot proof’ services ‘seem’ more ‘high end’ with the single purpose of making the client BELIEVE that they can’t do it at home and they also tell you how to ‘justify’ [AKA:: fool, trick] charging higher prices. So for example: they say to never charge based on the amount of time it takes to ‘install’ hair extensions ‘because it’s a fairly simple and straightforward process’ and then it goes on to advise the reader in multiple workarounds for getting the most money out of the client. I respect the work and even more so respect stylists with actual talent but I hate the trend of hairstylists being snobby and condescending...even the broke ones /awful ones. Anywho.
Jennifer, I love the way you said this! And I agree. The negativity from stylists is unnecessary. Your words and confidence in your hair inspires me to follow through with doing this at home! Thank you for the reminder that women are awesome!
Agreed!!! So happy I learned to cut and color my own hair!
Yes sis. Preach.
You make a good point about crying over $300 cut/color/style. I’m tired of paying money to “high-end” salon hairdressers who do a shitty job. I’m ready to just learn to do it myself. It’s not rocket science, they act like mixing shit together is something only highly skilled ppl can figure out. Yes, it does take a lot of research and following the instructions, but normal ppl can do this themselves. The disasters happen when ppl don’t read the instruction or are too impatient and cut corners or they’re trying something that their hair can’t do
I’ve often wondered if I could pull off doing my balayage maintenance at home to save the expense of the salon. This video made me realize that no, I most certainly cannot. Will gladly keep giving my hair stylist my money because you guys are wizards
LMAOOOO
Don't be ridiculous. Of course you can do it at home.
Chandra Cox
Nope. Some people don’t have the skills for it and will ruin their own hair. Either practice on wigs first until you’re an expert or go to a hair stylist. Even if you succeed on a mannequin, it’s still super hard to do it on your own head. I would wanna do this but I’ll mess it up so I rather just use the eZn foam bleach to lighten my hair
Chandra Cox Disgusting.
Oh my dear lord, I just love the comments "No you can do this yourself". Ok, Karen. I totally thought those bleach do it yourself pre-hole cut plastic wraps from Arbor Drugs in order to create the perfect chunky hilight was the total shit back in 1997, but no one actually thought that was a good look. This is why we pay people to do what they do, because they know how to do it.
I can't thank you enough Sylvia , After my hairdresser went on leave and another girl over bleached my foiled hair so badly I honestly thought my hair would never recover...but 6 months later no trip to the salon I've been re touching my hair with your steps of baby lights and hand painting. My hair is so happy . Thank you from the bottom of my heart xx
Lost the count how many times had my hair fried by "professionals" overlapping bleach.
I need to see the results from you copying these baby lights
teddy21 todorova Seriously! Me too... so freakin over it!
I’m also a licensed cosmo girl and I think this is bad ass that you can highlight your own hair! I feel very strongly that I can achieve this also! Thank you bb!
Finally a local stylist. I hate finding someone I love and realizing I’d never even have the chance to get colored by them. But you.. you’re right here 👍🏽😁
Absolutely love this tutorial, and have been using this technique at home the last year and a half with amazing results! My hair is much healthier now that I'm only doing this 3x a year and it's the longest its been in a decade due to the lack of breakage from not bleaching it constantly! Thanks for this video! 😁❤
it’s now april 10th 2020 and I’m watching this from quarantine. thank you for this gold mine of information! i’m buying my supplies online now lol.
Kayla R. Lyons tell us if you did it!
Kayla R. Lyons how’d it turn out??
Same!! Just ordered from Salon Centric!
@@MSJDCM do you have to be a licensed professional to order from salon centric?
Marie Wilfong yes! But you can buy bleach and developer (use 20 vol since her bleach has bonder she bumped to 30 vol). Then to root tap buy 6n in wella, for toning try something like 9na and 10n! Make sure root tap and toner are Demi or semi permanent, they will have their own processing fluid, do not use 20 vol! Best of luck!
Thank you thank you thank you for making this!!!!!!! I have never gotten my hair to lift to where I needed it to be or get the tone I wanted, but now it’s perfect!!!!!! My banding is gone and so is a majority of the warmth I had. I’m so happy! Thank you!!
This is saving me so much money, and now I can control how I want it. Thank you!!🥺
As a stylist whose been doing her hair own hair for years this is exactly how i’ve been doing mine for awhile now. This method does work. Actually touching up my blonde today! Great video.
I just did a platinum card technique on my own head, this video was so helpful for future applications!
🎉❤❤I did this to my hair, and the only thing I used was blonde me bleach instead. No smell, some bleeding bud the toner process she mentions, makes a big difference. Finally had time for me! Thanks girl. Once I do this more and more, the better the outcome! Thank you
You are simply the best on youtube, sharing all this knowledge. Thanks to your tutorials I have been able to maintain my hair at home and usually asked where I get my hair done and getting compliments.
Thank you 💖💖
I am no way at all a professional. Your tutorials make doing my own hair so easy. Ive been using your tutorials for a while now. Thank you so much❤
I’ve had her vids locked and loaded for a bit, I’m gonna go for it… today’s the day! #WishMeLuck 🍀 Lol
I feel like I need to do some pushups first and build my arm strength.
Lmfao!!! Same, I have the worst upper body strength
Exactly!!
I’m soooo glad you filmed this video. Now I know I CAN’T do this at home. Lol 🙏🏼
I have just followed this tutorial step by step product by product and WOW It has exceeded all my expectations . Thank you for sharing your tips.. AMAZING!!!!
I'm a hair stylist of 12yrs & am about to use this technique on myself! I was also trained by Redken & use their products as well; this is for sure the easiest technique to do a DIY baylayage! You go girl! Deffo a helpful video! Thanks fellow stylist,😋😎😍
How did it go?
You are amazing! How you can do the back of your head is beyond me! Absolutely lovely!!
Girl you make it look easy but it’s not. You’re just talented. Thank you for trying to help us sad little balayage fiends 😔
THIS IS THE VIDEO THAT WE ALL WERE LOKING FOR! THANKKK YOUU SO MUCH! ♥️
This video came just in time. I'm putting in my hi lights today. I just noticed something I must have missed in passed videos. Teasing the root before bleach application... hmmm... Gloss at the root... I'm thinking that's going to help with hot roots, that struggle is real for me which, is why I avoid going above a level seven lately. Love it...
That's what I want a long time. It is absolutelly perfect. I try it tomorrow. Thank You! ♥️
Can you make a video on how you do the rest of your hair like the lower sides and lower back?
Use a 2 big mirrors ❤️ saved my life I swear to god
Sip
@Political Queen ok
Ok
Was waiting for this video for forever☺️ thank you for posting this!!!
Oh my gosh. Watching you do the back of your hair just by the 'feel' of painting it...showed what a MASTER you are. I need to come to San Fran . to see you.:)
Love her, I’ve been watching for years. Also I want that shirt lol!
Seriously!!! 😱 I was up at 4 am looking up your videos on how to balayage at home! lol
😂 This is too good! I was watching your old ones and about to do it.
IKR! I always rewatch her videos before I do my hair! Like players watching game tapes before the big game lol! Never hurts to refresh!
Thank you for all your wonderful tips and tutorials I've learnt so much ❤
You're the best! 🥰 Thanks to your tutorials my hair is blonde & healthy & looking like it was done by a pro! 😉
Love your videos Sylvia! and congratulations on your new baby girl!
This is the best I’ve seen you luck I wish I can get my hair like that❤️
WOW! this is amazing! I love your hair. You made it look so easy and flawless! Id never attempt this at home but thank you for showing us how to do this!!
Just amazing! You make it look so easy doing it on yourself 🤣
After spending 1 year cutting my own hair, what i can do reasonably well by now, and after watching a ton of your Videos just made my order online of a bleaching powder, developer and shades eq to tone my balayage/ highlight attempt. Now all i have to do is wait for it to get delivered and give it a go!
Sorry where did you find shades eq. I am not a licensed pro and would like to try this on my hair
Can't wait to watch this! I used your babylights tutorial and mixed it with what I've learned through other stylists on CZcams and Instagram videos (and filmed a video that I still haven't posted) and it went really well! Maybe I'll try this next! :)
Your hair looks stunning here.
Dark natural root
Bright throughout, not too ashy. Mostly bright and glossy
Learned it all from you girl! Thank you for these!!!
Omg Sylvia, I actually love your hair brown!!❤️
Beautiful work! So original from you to do your own hair, and the blonde suits you so perfectly! 🤩👌🔥
Thank you for your tutorials! I have been binging for the past few days lol. After going to three hairdressers that can’t seem to cut my hair to the very basic cut I show pictures of, I’m going to do it myself. Thanks for all the tips. It has nothing to do with the amount of money,it has to do with someone listening to what I want!!
Did you get it how you like? I just got mine done but not happy. Spent 400$ too so I’m going to diy the top section at least :(
@@Cmm474 that’s so disappointing and I’m sorry you aren’t satisfied after spending so much money. I have been very satisfied with doing my own cuts and color! It might be worth it for you to do a virtual consult with Silvia and get some advice.
Such a great video! I will have to follow at home’ thanks for sharing ❤️
Goodness this is a treasure trove of a video for diy. Going to try this!! Thank you so much
Thank YOU .
Omg someone has Finely showed us and did it slow so we can learn also
Sucks Australia doesn't have the Redken toner
I tried this! Didn't use proper foil and stripped some kitchen which was difficult to work with so definitely invest in salon foil. I also used the Moroccan sand root tap and then blended a little of that with the mist EQ for my overall toner. I am no expert and the bleaching was far from perfect - although colour lifted fine, the toners really make the look and fix and unwanted orange as well as blending the bleach lifted parts. Would highly recommend if you have lockdown hair woes! Thanks so much Silvia! I love my new hair and can't believe I managed to sort my blonde out as I'm a natural brunette! X
I love these type of videos!!! Thank you so much!!!!
I love your videos! Thank you for sharing girl!
Thank you so much for this!! 🙌 You're amazing!
this looks so good! i’m going to learn this and try it on myself 😂
Omg I just attempted this for my own hair because I'm just done going to the salon. And this was sooooo hard 😆 BUT I was able to manage. And it came out pretty decent for the first time ever doing touch up or highlights 😬😳
Where did you find the toners?
Your videos have helped me so much. I am unable to go to a hairdresser to have my hair coloured as sitting at the shampoo bowls can be quite damaging to my neck (I have EDS, my joints dislocate and partially dislocate v easily). But I love being creative with hair colour and thanks to people like yourself, Ive learnt how to do it myself.
Been doing it for about past 30 years, luckily have never ruined my hair doing it myself. Although sometimes my colour choices have been questionable! 😂
Thankyou for teaching us, and being respectful about it! I'd love to be able to have a professional do my hair, while I sip tea and gossip with the hairdresser! But unfortunatly its not something I can do.
Your hair always looks great. 😃 🌹🌹🌹
Edit: dodgey spelling! 😂
Hi Sylvia, really great tutorial but just wondering how you do the back and underneath sections of hair? do you do these in the same method but with a different level of developer?
Watching this now to retouch my hair. Here’s to quarantine highlights lol
Looks so easy to do it by yourself, but I know that it's hard... Want to take a risk and to do a touch up on my roots by myself. Thanks for sharing with us. You help us to find a right and easy way to do.🥰♥️💐
Gayane Khachaturyan how did it turn out
@@mylifeassoph43 Amazing! But it was a little difficult))
Love this video! I’m going to try it at home but for the all over toner I want that ash blonde. What toner do you recommend?
Wow, thanks for posting professional tips. Very informative.
I want to know alternatives for Redken products because in Argentina we can not find them :(
You are beautiful, inside and out! Thank you for your videos, they have saved me many times!
Yay, thanks for watching and congrats on the pretty hair.
You did so well in this video. Products and visuals, thank you!
Adam and I definitely worked hard on this one. It took two days of filming and days of editing, so this is so nice to hear. Thank you!
But what about the underneath? That’s my biggest struggle. Do you just have someone from the salon do it?
I wish I had the patience to do my hair the way you do, looks great
I have highlighted my hair for years using the "cap". Have wanted to balayage myself and found your video extremely helpful. Regarding the root application: did you have 2 bowls of solution for that process? I couldn't tell from the angle. Thanks!
I love your videos. You are saving my life with these.
I have been using wella t18 as my toner for a long time, after wathing one of your videos. Lately it’s been getting harder to get a hold of them, and I wonder if you could recomend a toner that works as well as the good old white lady..?
If you've previously had highlights which have grown out and therefore don't have much blonde at the front as you already had, would you recommend sectioning a centre section in the middle of your head (as you would if you had a half head of highlights) and doing a few foils at the front rather than starting from the sides and just baby lights on top?
Hey I love this video and appreciate that you put these out for everyone. Do you know how I can buy the products you used in Canada? Thanks 💕
What other bleach would you recommend ?? During this time its hard to get my hands on redkin
1. You are GORGEOUS 2. Love your videos; straight to the point & not annoying like most tutorials lol 3. I’m a 5 year licensed cosmetologist & even this is hard for me! Don’t want to be annoying but my hair is SO THICK & LONG this shit takes me foreverrrrr wish I lived closer to you! Thanks for the helpful video xxxx
So how can’t you get your colour blond hoghlites from a medium brown 5N colour? Will it turn orange?
Also, would you recommend having coconut hair in hair prior to high lit if? I heard it helps hair from breakage
Since you’re already blond at your tips.. would u have started on the bottom if you were dark all over?... I
Starting from scratch!!!! I have about a level 3/4 all over ... n I’m going to do my own balayage (well attempt) and I loooooooooove your videos! But I wanna know if I should start from the bottom and work my way up?....
It’s now May 15th, 2020. I have been trying so SO hard to keep my unlicensed/uninformed hands off of my hair but I have an incredible lack of self discipline, my balayage has completely grown out and Im seeing way too much of my
natural hair color for the first time in like.. i dunno .. how old would you be in 5th grade? Well, take whatever that age is and minus it from 30.
Anyway, I can’t take it anymore and I’m just gonna go for it. I’m so happy to have this video as a guide and a great source of information. Wish me luck!
Thank you or this! I did have some questions about the teasing technique and you answered them
yay! Yeach, clients always ask, why the teasing?! it makes a world of difference!
Wow. You have ALL the videos I want to use!
Great instructional video! I have a question about the root process. Did you have 2 mixing bowls for two different products? One for the 07N and 09NA ? mixed together with processing solution? Thanks!
Thanks really helpful video, your hair came out awesome
Love the video. Question: Would you put the lightner and root tap over grey hair around the face. Also, would you use the 07NN instead of 07N for better grey coverage? I def will do this on my own hair next week!
My daughter and I tried to do this on a couple of sample pieces of her hair (we cut her hair so we could try it first). We followed your instruction from the video but the pieces of hair have a greenish tone to them after we toned the hair. Any suggestions? Should we use a different toner? Should we do something to correct the green after toning? Since we haven’t done this on her actual hair, we can try something else on the cut pieces if you can help us. THANKS! We love your videos!!
To #ElleBangs, this video is amazing!!! I ordered all of these products a couple of months ago and have been scared to try this... but, I literally just got done doing this and my hair turned out so perfect! It’s not as light as yours, but that is because I wanted to keep it a bit more natural. I would say if someone has never done anything with their hair, go watch pros do it first in person. I used to bleach all of my hair for years but was not brave enough to try hightlights because it takes skill. But, ElleBangs, you are an awesome teacher and again, thank you so much!!! I love my hair! 💋
Where did you buy the redkin products from?
Hi, thoughts on highlighting COMBS. Seem like it would make it easier especially for back of head. Thoughts?
I love it thanks for sharing
I just finished and get my licensed in the State of FL so that help a lot thank u so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I love all ur videos
yay! congrats on entering the most exciting field!
ellebangs thank u so much , I love beauty and hair mostly is my passion to learn more and be successful in this field , thank u for helping a lot of ppl ❤️❤️❤️
@@MBeautyTalent aw this means so much to me! YOu are going to kick some ass in FL
ellebangs I hope so I graduated in end of June and I got my license, I worked in a saloon for a month but the onwer said it was a low season and she couldn’t do it anymore , my question is how did u get started ? and what I can do so I can get hired in a saloon , like I looked for an assistant job , but nothing yet ? Like I word in a saloon as assistant before for 3 years but not the state , so do u have any advice for me how I could get started in the field
Taz Star get hired at a salon that continually offers continuing ed. I worked for Toni and Guy straight out of school. Mandatory classes. 1 year for cutting. 2 for color.
Question? I do not like my routes dark, still i have to apply to differents tone colours or I can only use the 9NA and 10 N in my routes?thanks love your videos!!!
This would take me forever to finish but the results are well worth it 🤩
Your hair rocks is beautiful. Thanks for sharing and for giving tips
Are there different types of processing solutions from Redken? Do you recommend me getting these items off of amazon?
Question: can i use redken bleach with bonder inside and add matrix ultim8 bonding as well? I have thin/fine hair
Elle would you recommend this to me my hair turns very yellow after bleach?
but i refuse to be a brunette and no one can touch up my balayage right now
I'm still trying to finish the very first bottle of Olaplex (got it cause your recommended it and what a life saver for the daring and DIY girl, like myself). The Redken kit is easier to use. I only used it once (because I had to try it). Can't wait to finish it so I can see how the Redken bonder works over time.
I love your videos and I’m learning so much on how to do my hair. Thank you so much 😊 for your tips and everything you do .
What color do you use for your base color .
Hi Elle🧡
Happy first day of fall! I’m just inspired by your videos, and been watching a few now! New subscriber 🥰 and follower on Instagram. I’m actually motivated to do my own hair, as I’ve been thinking about this for a few months now. I did read your description so I understand that this formula may not work for me. I’m still interested in trying.
At 5:01, I want to ask...are we mixing all 3 products into the same bowl? Because a little after I notice you’re holding up 2 bowls. This step is so important for me to understand! I notice when you’re ready for the ALL OVER toner, that all is mixed in one bowl.
I just want to thank you for all your help, you look gorgeous being pregnant as well. you an Adam remind me of me and my bf. you two are funny, you can tell you guys have been together in pandemic. lol I will try me best to follow this video and I will let you know how my hair turns out. just waiting for the rest of my product to get here.
Hi Elle, can I still use this toner after one month of doing my hair because I didn't like the color I have it's too yellow. Thanks so much for this awesome video.
Wow, you are gorgeous and artistic. Got an idea how to do my own. Thanks
Love your tutorials. Thank you for sharing your skills. My salon gives me the same color blonde that you have but it seems too gray blonde for me. It really looks gray. When I google images of “ blonde swede,” I see yellow blonde with no dull. bluish white tones. Do I just tell them less toner?
However is coloring and toning your hair is probably leaving the toner on too long
Where is the best place to order the shadesEQ? I don’t think individuals not associated with a salon can get it most places
Can you do this same technique with out doing a root tap or smudge? If you tease all the babylights/highlights it should look soft correct?
Your hair looks fabulous! xo
This is reaaaally beautiful color. And the video is very helpful. But i have a question I can’t find the 30vol developer. What if i use 20 vol what will be the difference? And I can’t find the 010N gloss
