      He might know his stuff, but he used a torque wrench to loosen the compensator bolt when he was gettiing ready to do the final torque lol.

    • @Chris-yy7qc
      @Chris-yy7qc Před 3 lety

      @@awsomekill2 Maybe its not good practice. But you can use torque wrenches to losen bolts !!if you know what youre doing!! First you have to understand why you normally dont use torque wrenches to loosen bolts. Lets say your torque wrench ranges from 50-100 Nm. If you loosen a 75 Nm bolt, you wont damage the torque wrench. But if you try to loosen a 200 Nm bolt, youll overload the torque wrench and damage it. The problem is in 99% of the cases you dont know how tight the bolt really is. (Because of corrosion etc.)
      Because the guy in the video freshly tighened that nut and immidiately then backed it off a half a turn. He knew loosen that bolt will not overload the torque wrench and therefore not damage it either.

    At 7:22 you start to work on "the main bolt on the compensator sprocket".
    It's torqued tight at 175 ft/pd.
    I expected your ratchet to break!
    At 13:44 we see the Jim's Tool. THAT, is just what the doctor ordered!
    This video is really an excellent presentation of this installation process!

    Belt drives are old school so are their clutches. More for looks unless you’re a quarter mile guy I guess.A wet clutch Clutch is much better for every day riding. But looks cool. Specially with a big old bowl front end. Instead of them stupid big wheels

    • @FoamAddict
      @FoamAddict Před 4 lety

      Not according to every bike builder I have worked with. The wet primary system is only superior to an open belt drive because of sound levels. The epa not only regulates emissions for carbon but also noise pollution. Its roughly 50 feet from the side on both sides of the bike. An open primary doesn't meet those standards for production bikes according to the builders I know. It's really personal preference but from a performance standpoint a dry primary is far superior to a wet system in in the big twin application but you also don't have to run a big open belt, I have 3 big twins that run a dry primary but are closed and look just like a wet primary. A little more noise but they ride exactly like my 19 glide with the wet clutch.

    • @mickc4633
      @mickc4633 Před 4 lety

      I guess it depends on how you write doesn’t it with a wet clutch keeps cooler So it doesn’t wear like a dry clutch. If you ride your bike or you look at your bike I guess there’s a difference. Everybody has opinions God bless America I love this country

    • @FoamAddict
      @FoamAddict Před 4 lety

      It's actually the exact opposite my friend a wet clutch holds heat in the fluid since there is no active cooling to help. Think about it, your jugs have fins to dissipate heat, threat of the motor has nothing. So as your motor oil and trans fluid heat up that heat creeps into the primary rather quickly. With an open dry system it is always air cooled and there is nothing to retain heat. Also I have 89,000 miles on my 2011 street glide with a dry primary from about 3k miles and I have never had to replace a belt or clutch in that time. All of my bikes have over 20k miles on their dry primaries with zero issues and zero maintenance, no fluids to change and no chain tensioner to wear out.

    • @mickc4633
      @mickc4633 Před 4 lety

      Opinions vary I’ve had both I’ll take my wet clutch. Of course I ride my bike . I guess if you ride around town doing bike nights it’s fine . You try that set up on a big bike do you 600 miles in the rain can you tell me about it. Like I said I’ve had both through the years been through all that. Good luck God bless America

    @doncarlo5 Před 3 lety

    nice video, great step by step explanation, good for dummies like myself ... what I personally don't like is the open belt on the lower side, because that's exactly where the little tiny stones might jump in ... and considering the width and the tight look of the belt, that may rip it ... I've never seen it happen, but I've heard stories of other guys who had that issue ...
    the other question would be : how much power loss does it have ? ( compared to chain drive )
