Cam is way more stable in maxed conditions. No cam will be more work when maxed out.

Great movie, but I am afraid there is mistake:
you should not compare the same size of 4cam and no cam - you should compare sails with max size that you can control.
The 4 cam sail would beat all the others then.
That is because I think you would be able to sail with 8,5 4cam sail but you wouldn't be able to use 8,0 no cam in the same conditions.
That would be great if you could compare the sails in that competition:
What would the max size of the sail that you can control and what speed would be then.

I was trying out the days before a 7.2 salom with cams and was behaving very well on low wind, but on high wind and especially upwind was almost unusable. Tried to lose the upper battens..., was a bit better, but still terrible on upwind. Do you think this a particularity of the cam sails? Thank you!

Not exactly a scientific proof. Lots of uncontrolled variables, few repeats. I acknowledge that a proper, controlled test would be very difficult to arrange.

in all fairness sails should have been all 3 same exact size, inndeed no cam sail had no chance

Interesting. If you're not a pro racer, the need for cams is not as relevant as it may seem, especially during water start, you're right :p) I aready noticed - when "racing" against other riders for fun - the top speed comes mostly from the relation between your weight, the type of board and the fin of course. On amateur sailing conditions, Starboards and JP's are Always faster, even Under my feet. Just saying. In light winds, full cams makes sense though, but over 25 knots...

Did he say he sailed 35knots with 18-20 knots? Is that possible?

Sure, windsurfing planing is appr. 1,5 times speed of wind. (of course not downind).
but foil is much more efficient.

Thank you very much for your test - it is great job. By the way. Take a look at PWA and Olimpic.
PWA - they tell take whatever sail you want just be the fastest - result they take 4 cam.
RSX - all have to compete on one sail size - Result - 2cam

@@mareknowakowski4246 it has nothing to do with planing but going sidewind

Ok great test, but a fast sailor is a fast sailor irrespective of kit so surely to test these three sails would it not have been better to have three sailors of equal experience racing against each other,i think the test would have been more interesting
