    Super clear explanation Nico, thanks. I've been sailing NP myself for years and have an 8.2 V8, and a Speedster 6.7. Because of the freeride feeling of the speedster I can play and jump a bit more with it.
    While the cams and extra profile of the V8 provide more speed in lighter winds.

    Could be interesting to test the same sail with different masts isn't it ? (like the speedster with 60% of carbon, 80% of carbon and 100% of carbon. Same with the V8. Not for the RSR, I mean it's not worthy to buy this kind of sail without a hundred mast !)

  • @florianbauch3581
    @florianbauch3581 Před rokem +2

    Yet another great video. Thanks. Probably the Ryde was left out as this is a pure FR- sail not a performance FR-sail. Recreational sailors will look at the Ryde or even the Fusion...
    As far as the comment of Robert Stroj goes concerning the cam positioning @V8 I am not sure I agree. The Ezzy Lion is a twin cam sail (no x-button concept) with both cams sitting underneath the boom and a very soft transitioning of the cams. You have to look at the overall concept...
    Used to ride my V8 10.5 from 2001 with a comparably narrower sleeve which was quite nice but not that much speed orientated. When I updated in 2005 I decided to stick to the sail designer (Barry Spanier) who designed the GTX for Gaastra as I liked the design concept.
    Will head in a week to Soma Bay and the NPSpeedster 7.2/7.7/8.2 will be my go to sails for the lighter days to have fun. Keep it up Nico.

  • @MLCHZG
    @MLCHZG Před rokem

    Very nice Video Nico... One more thing to say about the RS EVO Racing sails: Compared to all the other Brands out there, the RS Evo Racing sails do still use a special way to fix the cambers inside the mast pocket. The cambers used by Neilpryde are fixed / equiped with small seperate lines inside the pocket, which allowes them to rotate much softer an easier compared to other sails i feel. This is very unique and why i especially love the RS Evo's... just awesome handling and easy to Trimm, by really fast in strong winds due to the high aspect ratio design .... and much easier to use for not such expert Race Sail users to get the sail trimmed well.

    Thats a great video! Especially the speed comparisions really mean a lot :) I have an idea for another video possibly - after a long research over the internet I would still struggle to tell what's the influence of carbon fibre in boom on the slalom performance :) And boom is a really expensive part of equipment at the same time. Does it really give you better acceleration and much better top speed? Maybe it's worth to spend the money on better fin or extra board size :) For now I use alu race booms even for my slalom rigs, mostly because of the budget limitations. I plan to buy a corbon boom next season but I'm not really sure what to choose. I would love to see something like a "guide to collect equipment for faster slalom sailing". A list of priorities if you want to make your equipment faster :) cheers!

    Yeah for sure windsurfing is a great fun sport, particularly in conditions like those, and with good kit. I had a 6m RS Race sail from maybe 2002 I think and it was super stable at full chat, way more so than any non camber sail I used. NP kit was always my favourite as well. tried various others over the years, but the best I ever used was my 6m RS race sail. Awesome bit of kit.

    Very nice video with good content. I also think we miss a few points and would like to know what you think about them. Disclaimer, I only sail free race sails with camber since 25years :
    - vs the non cam sails they keep their speed longer in the lull, thanks to the induce profile by the cambers. True or false?
    - vs the non cam sails after a certain speed they take advantage of the induced profile and the apparent wind to pull you. True or false?
    - vs the full race sails they can’t reach same upwind angle. True or false?
    - vs the full race sails you can’t close them on the deck, therefore does not look as nice. True or false?
    Looking forward to start the season here in Sweden, with decent temperatures.

    Great test :-). Less than two knots of difference between the no cam freeride and the four cam racer is not that much. And surprisingly the pure race sail had the slowest speed in average over 20 seconds... Anyway this test takes place in quite ideal conditions - everything is fast here. In heavy shifty winds and harsh chop the stability, range and average speed of a cammed sail is unbeatable - if you are out there to go fast.

So if i crash in the jibe the camberbattens aren't always all on the same side and if the cambers aren't on the same side the sailprofil isn't good enough to waterstart.
