ROBOTICS | Miniature 3-axis robotic arm

- čas přidán 3. 07. 2022
- Millions of years of evolution have created the most universal and perfected instrument - the human arm. Everything in our modern world exists thanks to this instrument. Even to this day, the industry has not found a more versatile tool to manipulate objects in 3D space than the robotic arm, which is essentially a mechatronic copy of a biological arm. The versatility of the robotic arm is truly unique. Combined with advanced machine vision and various end effectors, it can be used for almost anything. Today, the rapid development and miniaturization of mechatronic systems allow expanding the scope of use even further. In particular, until recently the size of the robotic arms was limited by the size of motors, gearboxes, and controllers. And now we see great momentum toward micro-automation with the use of miniature highly precise robotic arms. Most importantly, the cost of these robots approaches the cost of similar Cartesian systems. Thus, they can be effectively used in micromanipulation and micro-assembly processes for various domains.
In this video, you can see a short demonstration of a miniature 3-axis robotic arm using ultra-precise Harmonic Drive gearheads, high-performance brushless motors, high-resolution absolute encoders, and integrated controllers.

I like how you put your hand in frame to deal with all the constant CGI comments lol.
🤣🤣🤣 Never gets old
Thanks! That's still not enough to convince some people :)
I mean, the most convincing way he could prove they're real is just make a video of these machines in normal lighting, without making it look like a render.
@@just_a_guy9688 Yeah, it's a real fuckin' wonder why he doesn't do that if these aren't renders.
@@emanggitulah4319 indo nih?😎👌
the movement is in sync with the music, genius
Awesome, I always like your showcases!
Thank you very much, appreciate your comments!
Not sure if I missed it. Do you have a list of used parts ? Opensource repi ?
What a thing of beauty!
😊
Hey, great work. Just a little question : how did you achieve backdriveability with harmonic gearboxes ?
Thanks! They are easily backdrivable.
This is force control via reducer and complance of motor. Harmonic gearbox is not easy to backdrive
@@user-uc5kt5lj4k Ok.
So you mean it is probably done with torque readout and closed loop motor control to assist human motion rather than a "simple" mechanical backdrive compliant gearbox and a measurement of the motor rotation to keep track of position while being backdrived.
@@user-uc5kt5lj4k they are backdrivable, just takes a lot of torque...
as long as the stepper motors are not engaded its supposed to be backdrivable, but it depends on the gearing ratio how much resistance they got. but if the steppers are set to hold a position its pretty hard to backdrive them(in theory).
speed of arm moving is excellent parts are excellent how much power it consume. in my opinion you can actually use that to build a suit like iron man legs and arms suit like a starship trooper suit speed is important and accuracy of movement for building a power suit and we just need to solved how much power it consumes and the weight of that arm.
блин вот если бы все авторы на ютубе были такими же перфекционистами
That would be too much :)
what motors are these? really compact .
high performance brushless motors and harmonic drive gearheads
@@Pointyy Precisely :)
@@OleksandrStepanenko Could you point us to where you got the harmonic drives from ?

I'd love to use those motors and gearboxes in a gimbal project - can You share the product name/number or at least manufacturer?
Can you mention the link of those Motors used in video? Or any equivalent specifications motor will also do....
i always love watching these
Thanks!
Awesome work as usual!
Thank you, Paul!!!
This is the best 3 axis robot I've ever seen!
Thank you!
Thanks!
Oleksandr, you should see the kinematics in our FrictionLess Gear and Rotary Universal Device [pump/engine/etc.] mechanism. They can also be formulated as linear actuators.
Cool as usual
Thank you!
strong motors and accurate
This is realy awesome arm
Non fa rumore nemmeno un po'! 👍
He seems like a cute little guy😊
These demos blows my mind, and I always need to remind myself this is not CG :D
Thanks, Jakob :)
I feel like it's not just minds that it does that to 🌚
Looks like a crazy guy with one arm and a chainsaw in his hand ;)
That's exactly what was in my mind when filming this :))
CGI hand looks great
It's so cute!
A miniature replica of energy vault would look mind blowing
Your beats are sick and I want them.
Как всегда, просто супер!!!
Thanks a lot!!!
Hi…can you share all parts details for assemble the same arm…and navigate to make this one similar
This looks so good, it will probably suggested on my Pinterest feed next week. 😂
Thanks!
Respect Legend Sir
That hand is so realistic!
Great cgi hahahah
What kind of actuator is that??? so smooth 🔥🔥🔥🤩🤩🤩
Hi, your videos are really impressive and inspirational from a mechanical/control point of view as well as cinematographic! Hats down for it!
I have a question about a project I intend to pursue. Do you have any experience working with Maxon's EC Flat BLDC motors with another controller than from the manufacturer (since they are 400$+). Maybe with O-Drives? Cause I've seen that the controllers of Tinymovr are limited to 38V.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Sam
Thanks a lot!
Tinymovr works pretty well even at 24V.
@@OleksandrStepanenko Sorry I should have mentioned that the motors I intend to use run un 48V (btw thanks for the reply!)
Magnificent. Do you fabricate your own motors or something, these don't look like off the shelf ones?
Thanks! Motors are from maxon.
I want to use this
Brilliant work!
Thank you!!!
could you create a tutorial, or the explanation about the kinematics 🤠🤠
This looks like a render.
Lighting so good you know it’s NOT cgi
Thanks!
@OleksandrStepanenko thank you for the awesome work :D , could you please provide the stepper model
Thanks! It’s brushless motor from maxon

What a great drilling and tapping machine this would make. Can this be used with arduino uno? TIA
Hi! Have you commercialised these yet? And are the designs opensource?
Nice.. only thing missing is iron man suit
Wow so smooth sir... thank you
Thank you for watching!
Hello, do you use bldc motor?cycloidal or planetary gear? Im building my own but with 3d prited parts
You should really make some longer videos, I would totally watch them like over and over like I do your shorter ones
Thank you very much for watching and your suggestion. I've been thinking about it, hopefully I'll find time to do something longer and more interesting. Thanks!
Very cool
Thanks!
Man, I would live to build a beetleweight combat robot by using 6 of these in a crawler configuration. What is the mass of this 1 arm assembly?
It is quite light, about 1 kg
@@OleksandrStepanenko hum, darn close to make it work. The mass cap for a walking beetleweight combat robot is 2.72kg. I'm assuming most of the mass is in the harmonic dives with what looks like a decent amount of steel or SS. Ever think about making an aerospace version (using titanium and composites where heavy alloys are normally used). I plenty of spare gr5 titanium and some carbon fiber lying around that I would donate just out of curiosity (he'll, I'd make it for uou and send it to ya)
@@HuskyMachining This is just a quick prototype, the next version should be more interesting, hopefully:)
😍😍😍
Please can you tell how can i beald arm like this for my project of end education
Does anyone know what motors he uses ? I’ve been trying to source them for my own projects

Okay... Thanks.
I'll check that out.
I am a student of mechanical engineering. I am doing my final year currently and I will be working on a project on a Robotic arm for industrial automation. Actually something for illustration purposes.
So I want to have this kind of robotic arm in a cell where the robot identifies and sorts objects coming from a conveyor of different colors into separate boxes.
Can I get to your lab? To make sure that is not CGI?
Probably. You will need to sign an NDA. But you don't need to visit my lab to tell if it's CGI or not, just watch my videos in full resolution.
