The police drummer an American Stewart Copeland in a British reagge punk band is one of the most underrated drummer of all time.
The Super, 70s had a lot of great stuff for everyone of every Genre and you could always get plenty of,,SECONDS! HA,HAHA . if you are an ADULT, TAKE A LISTEN TO MIDNIGHT AT THE OASIS. RESPONSIBLE FOR MILIONS NEW BABBIES IN THE SUPER 70!
Facts
He sings amazingly high and is hard to cover. Never sell him short. When they called it quits they were the biggest band in the world and for great reason.
Oh The Police are bloody brilliant! I'm from England and most (if not every) household knows and still plays their music, So Lonely is my favourite of their songs ❤
Agreed
Sue Lawley...
So Lonely is SO AWESOME! I used to play the shit out of that song anytime I saw it on a pub jukebox.
Can't stand losing , when the world is running down and don't stand so close to me are my favs
Nearly half a century later. their influence can still be heard by the vocals of contemporary artists including Adam Levine, Bruno Mars and Ren just like back in the 80s where they had such a huge influence on the sound of bands like Men at Work
"Message In A Bottle" is a must, and "Walking On The Moon", and.... :)
The police in concert is fabulous and amazing
Ego’s or not…they earned it! The Police were absolutely incredible and so massively successful and still considered one of the best bands that ever came onto the stage! They have sold so many records and sold out every show they ever did and Sting is a writing genius period! Also helped he’s multitalented playing several instruments and also helps he’s very easy on the eyes. Very. I prefer The Police I tend to go to more than Sting passed 90s. Not to say Sting in the 80s alone was phenomenal! He’s just perfect. Can’t sing a bad song even if I do not like his modern stuff. Fabulous! Chefs kiss!
The best cover of this song is by Eddie Murphy in the movie "48 Hours"
LOL!
It is ALWAYS what I think of when I hear this song!!
Roxxxxanne. So classic. As a 9 yr old I had no clue what the song was about, but I sure ran around the house singing it. Needless to say my parents weren't so happy about it lol.. You guys rock.. 🚨🚨
You made me laugh like Sting, LOL, thinking of a 9 year old singing "You don't have to put on the red light..."
I love The Police better than just Sting's solo career. People may not agree but they were great together. Stuart is one of my favorite drummers (He's no Neil) but he is a close second. I read that he and Taylor Hawkins were good friends... Repeating is good if it is done right and knows when to stop. No fair there are no songs about Heather. 😂
Copeland actually became better friends with Peart before his death…
They even jammed at Copeland’s home (which is featured on CZcams) as the “Sacred Grove”, along w/various other musicians such as Dany Carrey, Les Claypool, etc…
You are right... I actually saw a video about that. 😊🎶❤
No…Neil is no Stewart….he’s a fully formed musician……composing incredible works with Orchestra…..scoring films….and happens to be the more unique and talented drummer….it’s why Mr. Peart deferred to him….he was in awe of him.
Stewart top 5 drummer all time. Agree totally, that Roxanne and Every Breath are so overplayed. Driven to Tears is a great drumming performance to check out
THE best band that ever existed. PERIOD!!! 💯
The level at which those 3 guys play is just GOD MODE! And this was their FIRST SINGLE!
Hit up Walking on the Moon next by them. Stewart Copeland puts on an absolute hi-hat clinic, it’s immaculate.
Copeland’s cymbal work is rivaled my no one; not even Peart…
The Police can keep repeating at the end of a song and keep it fresh the way they change it up 🎧 💓 🎶
Fun Fact: The Police was a british band but Stewart Copeland is american and he's the son of a CIA officer, who was a founder of the OSS during WWII. 🙂
And his brother, their manager, founded IRS Records!
I saw The Police in concert 2008 in Kansas City on their last tour. The band was amazing and Sting was really cool. Great night!
Another amazing drummer Stewart Copeland 🥁 great song from my childhood 🎶
Every time I hear this song. I think of Eddie Murphy in the movie 48hrs...
As the joke goes, in 1980 every teenager in the UK had a Police record.
I want my MTV!
I have been listening to this album for over 30 years, and Never noticed the "bum piano".
Fortyish years ago, used to eat at a Mexican restaurant that had a fun, boisterous clientele, usually packed with lots of college students. The head waiter was the owner, so anything could happen and often did between him and the diners.
One Saturday lunchtime, a pretty and voluptuously under-dressed young lady in a group of four caught his attention (and ours too!) He struck up a loud and funny but embarrassing conversation with her. Much of the restaurant quieted down and listened to the interchange. When he leaned in close and convinced her to tell him her name, she reluctantly and quietly admitted what it was.
It was like she lit a firecracker under his feet. He instantly jumped from the floor to the tabletop, directly in front of the stunned girl and, at the top of his lungs, belted out the loudest, graveliest, most accurate rendition of her name, "ROXANNE!!!" I have ever heard. The Police would have been proud.
The place fell apart, especially the object of his overwhelming attention. She laughed until she couldn't breathe. After a couple of lines from the song, the waiter/owner jumped back down, gave Roxanne a friendly hug for being a good sport and declared a free lunch for her whole table. What a trip!
Hammered by the end of the first chorus. Lord help the poor bastard who makes it to the end of the song.
I saw The Police in 1982. Great concert!
"Oh hi Sting, I didn't know it was you!"
The Police had so many great hits!!! I think their egos got the best of them.
Saying 'Sting is in the pocket' is perfect.
The instrumental Regatta de Blanc really showcases their musicianship.
You tell such funny stories, Nick.....Ha Ha Ha Ha!
Best drinking game song of all time.
He was an addition in "Money for Nothing " I want my MTV....
Someone heard YES after The Police and commented how Jon Anderson sounded like Sting. Perhaps it was the other way round...
Sting is supposedly from Newcastle. Interesting fact: Newcastle people tend to sound quite similar to Jamaican people. If you say out loud "beer can", that is how both Geordies (native Newcastle people) and Jamaicans pronounce "bacon".
The Police the best groupe of the world
Ok guys...there's a different version of this done by Sting himself!!! In the mid 80s in England, there were several benefit concerts for the starving millions in Africa. Search on CZcams for "The Secret Policeman's Ball " and watch Sting's soft version of this!! It completely changes the feeling of the song to a cry for love and recognition. Very much worth your time.
I liked his solo version of “Message in a Bottle” in that concert. And the shows were for Amnesty International not famine relief.
@@joebrown5120 That's right ....Amnesty Intl...I'd forgotten that. I agree, his Message in a Bottle was a haunting piece, also. For me, his delivery with the echo and just him and a Strat, set such a different feeling to those songs that I could never hear them quite the same again. I guess it really made me think about song lyrics is a whole different way after that. Thanks for your correction...
@@rusty9129 yeah, it really switched the meaning for me from one of lovesickness to prisoners of conscience. Cheers!
As of 2024, Every Breath You Take remains THE most played track in the history of radio, surpassing airplay by Michael Jackson, Van Halen, Drake, Diddy, Jay Z, Rihanna or Kanye West. So yeah, respect where it’s due.
With only three people, pre-Synchronicity Police live and breathe the Punk aesthetic: terse rhythms, unique vocal wails, "burst" melodic shifts and short song length.
RE: the reggae bass -- Remember too, that the UK in the 70s/80s was awash in Ska music, many West Indies people calling it home.
So with that slower reggae beat, there's more room for the bass, easier to hear.
Then of course, they shift into a punk higher gear for satisfying contrast.
(Jack White would approve of their minimalism).
Leaving on the red light for this reaction. 😉😎
Andy Summers was a little older than the other two, playing much in the 60s around Jimmy Page and the Beatles, even before they were big.
The Sting solo album "Nothing Like the Sun" is just amazing.
Though I'm commenting this two years after this reaction video was released, I've only now just watched it, and wanted to weigh in on the Roxanne name question. When I was born, my dad was pulling for the name Roxanne, but my mom didn't like the possiblity of having a daughter nicknamed Roxie, so she overruled and I became Pamela (Pam). But the Fates were kind, and I still ended up with a song--Toto's "Pamela". (Hardly anyone knows that one, though, lol.)
Police drummer Stewart Copeland spent a fair part of his childhood in Egypt and Lebanon, so he was exposed to and influenced by Middle Eastern musical scales and drum beats, (in addition to reggae), which may have resulted in the Latin-type sound that you noticed, Nick.
Reggae vibe that let's you keep danc'in through those last few bars. We might do with more of that vibe these daze.
Big fan of your channel! You gotta react to "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic," "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da," "Don't Stand So Close to Me..." Go down The Police rabbit hole!
the big classic
Appreciate the Room reference! on my watch list. The Disaster Artist sold me.
Just like Rush , an amazing trio...
You guys gotta do a "The Room" reaction. The greatest bad movie of all time
Try "Murder by numbers"
"Interesting" lyrics.
Great drumming!
Masterpiece!
I can't listen to this without hearing Eddie Murphy screeching it from a prison cell in the film 48hrs.
Great band 👍🏻 only 3 of them but had a bigger sound . The sweater thing is true .
one of my favourite bands. Copeland is one of the best drummers of all time.
Mama by Genesis is about a man in lust over a prostitute, apparently.Excellent song to listen and react too.Especially as Phill Collins seems to be turning insane with lust. The video is hot!
In fact, it's the red district from Amsterdam and not Paris. They put the red light when not available, I think.
He has a nice voice... his approach to a particular song has to match it to the tee
Every single time you turned on the radio at the end of the 70's, this song was being played or so it seemed.
Al Stewart bought his first guitar from Andy Summers. Maybe this is true, perhaps not, but it is fun thought, nonetheless. Thanks.
Coldplay - Magic (Official Video)
The Best DRUMMER STEWARD Coppeland 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Sting always says Roxanne is a tango...
This was competing with Dire Straits' Sultans of Swing
I heard this song when I was a kid, now 30 something yo, I liked it.. It's interesting, the pauses are.. It's simple, I mean when you are listening to a7x or Slipknot, Roxanne is simple right? 🤔
So guys, would you mind doing a reaction to Hysteria- Muse? 😁🙏
Good good good Drummer
This song was on the radio all the time back when it came out. I loved it at first, then it was played too much. Great review.
SAVATAGE..... HANDFUL OF RAIN 🌧️ OFFICIAL VIDEO 🔥

Guys, it's time for you to admit that UK music is the best one ever!
The Disaster Artist is funny as hell.
In college we used to do the Roxanne drinking challenge, every time they said it we had to take a swig or shot.
❤❤❤
Hey, Could you plz react to Mornin’ by Al Jarreau?
Sting is the man Andy is awesome
Stewart held it altogether
Can you do a voice comparison between Nick's voice and Seth Rogan's voice? Lol! 😂
Idk if you guys played spyro on ps1 or ps4 but the drummer does the music for it
Did you know, Stewart Copland's dad,,founded the C.I.A.
Stings voice won't be what you think.
There's "British", then there's "Geordie"
Oh hai, Nick.
Sting is a Geordie,,from Newcastle.
Sting said he was very hung over in this video
Guys, it'd be great if you could do more songs that none of you know. Along the lines of "Roller" by April Wine. That was a great reaction. Maybe you need to get back to some Canadian songs for that.
M S G.....🎸 ANYTIME.🤘HQ VIDEO.

Yes, definitely played out. But objectively, still a great performance.

What’s the intro music? It’s good. :-)
Everyone I know named Roxanne hates this song, hahaha! I get it, people still sing Sara by Jefferson Starship at me. Not to me, AT me. But it's not about being a hooker, so I got off easy, lol.
Also, if you want to know what Sting sounds like talking, watch Lock, Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels, he plays the barman dad of one of the characters. And he's pretty badass, not gonna lie, lol.
I like Fleetwood Mac's Sara a lot more than Starship's
czcams.com/video/m49EhpGeLu4/video.html

Escuche a la banda Crucis música Abismo Terrenal
What song have you written with a better chorus?
Music is subjective. I'm sure you don't like every chorus you've heard either.
