    Worth it to me. Image quality is superb and keeping it internal zoom and still able to reduce weight and size is incredible. Love using it on my FX6/FX3 for filming and it handles well on the A7IV for stills.

    Very good review.
    I picked one up a few months ago, and it has lived on my a7iv since then.
    I mostly shoot at poorly lit arenas (amateur ringette and hockey), and it's been fantastic. Absolutely no problems shooting at F2.8 (and, they're both VERY fast moving sports).
    The weight difference is HUGE versus the mark i. My hands would ache on longer shoots. This lens is a pleasure to use.

  • @phalanxfilmco
    @phalanxfilmco Před 2 lety

    As far as focus breathing compensation goes, I've **heard** that the reason it hasn't been introduced on the FX3 and A7Siii (as much as I'd LOVE it on my FX3) is because the sensor resolution isn't high enough. I don't know how much resolution is actually necessary, but apparently the 400 pixels of horizontal width beyond 16:9 4K on the Sony 12 MP sensors (native sensor width on the FX3 is 4240px) isn't sufficient to support that feature. The 4K footage on the A7iv is 7K oversampled and downscaled, and either way the sensor obviously has plenty of extra pixels beyond 4K resolution.

    Can I please get your opinion on something? I've seen so many people rave about how amazing the Sony G master 24mm wide angle lens is, but I don't recall seeing anyone talk about the G master 35mm. And I have a feeling a 35mm is going to work better for my needs. I just got my A7IV and want to get a really good lens, but it's going to be my only really good lens for the time being so I want to make sure it's going to be versatile enough for what I need. I get occasional paid gigs doing birthday parties, family photos, etc. but I don't go searching for jobs so it's pretty rare. My main need is to start filming music videos for my own music.
    Can I get away with using the 24mm to do all my performance shots and b roll for rap music videos? Or am I right that a 35mm would do way better? And have you heard anything on the 35mm G master? It's just as expensive as the 24mm, so I'm hoping it is just as good.

    As a hobbyist photographer who occasionally gets jobs to shoot videos or pics that are paid, I am currently weighing my options. The MK1 is on sale on Amazon for under $2K, and the MKII is still the $2.8K.
    So I am wondering if spending the almost $1k extra is worth it to a hobbyist? For reference I shoot on an A7IV that I own since launch. I have a Sigma 24-70 and the 16-28 both at F2.8. I do shoot at night time quite a bit so having a zoom at F2.8 is worth but I do want something longer like this 70-200.

    • @wingcreator
      @wingcreator Před 2 lety

      @@nrocha2466 Yes, your good breakdown of the differences is bang on. There are obvious reasons for the price difference, not just for the Sony badge alone. Nowadays, people are just comparing lenses more on the performance-price ratio than really saying a lens is amazing without arguing there are not enough differences for price differences! There is nothing that touches 70200GM2, PERIOD. If the budget is tight, YES, the Tamron is the best budget 70-180 (ok, it is not quite 70-200 as Sony, one of its shareholders is making Tamron making funny mm and TC not compatible FE lenses as not direct competition). However, if the price is not a consideration, then 70200GM2 is the new king of 70-200mm in terms of AF, image quality, and min focus 0.4m @ 70mm (at least until now).
