Love the combination of the lab/clinical examination and you three being out in the field testing it and sharing your thoughts right there at the moment. Keep it up Gerald, we love you work and it's of great use for us. Now I just need to sell some stuff to buy this lens!
Loving these new reviews with guests! You rock Gerald! đđŸ
thank you 1,000,000!! so rad to get out and shoot with Lee, loved that segment coupled with the normal in studio stuff!
The recent variety in content types is a breath of fresh air. I do prefer this one to the anamorphic one though - no filler chatter, which is something I've always appreciated on this channel.
That AF is insane, especially those continuous shots unbelievably smooth! I'd cry experiencing something that smooth đ đ
Your reviews have become the best and most useful. Itâs fantastic to see Sony finally offering lenses up to the quality of their sensors. It looks like this joins the newest 35mm GM, 135mm GM and 50mm GM as true top drawer glass. The fact its performance is optimized for video compared to those primes is a bonus. Thank you.
35 is horrible for video. Breathing is unbearable
Loving these new ideas for your videos. I think you make great OTF interviews while testing the products with a fellow creator.
Your reviews are in a class all their own. I so value your work on these kinds of videos -- thank you! I will probably pick this lens up at some point.
I also really enjoy watching your other kinds of creative content as well and look forward to seeing what you make next.
Oh how Iâve missed the Gerald-walking-spin-move-AF-tracking tests! Also great to see Lee in some of your vids recently. Great video as always
Glad to see that Sony actually cares about Gerald Undone's work and lends him their lenses to test review. I think this is one of the lens that Gerald couldn't talk about last time haha.
Canon should follow the example instead of only getting one R3 in Canada and giving it to a guy who broke it playing with a drone
@@gabrielmachadobsb The other guy has a massive following and is an official Canon ambassador.
@@gabrielmachadobsb lol also he didn't break it, he broke the lens that was on it
YES! It's time to give us new GM Zooms!!!!! Shove that new AF motor in and give it to me!
LETS GOOOO
stand in line Dunna
Is an update expected for the 100-400 GM?
@@nikhiljohn88 I think a rumor was out for the 24-70 GM a while back
A 24-70 with IS to compete against Canon's standard zoom would be great. Also a 28-70/f2 would be rad as well.
Wow, your voice is so soothing. Dope video! Thanks for having me be part of it (and including my air humping)! đđŒđ€Ł
Thanks, Clarissa! Appreciate your help. đđ
Air humping was a fun move haha
What a fantastic review! Thanks, Gerald and Lee for making this really helpful video đđŒ Gerald, I am loving these new videos, just saying âșïž
Hell yaaassss!!đđœ Extremely useful and I was looking for a review like this to show the overall performance comparisons as well as the 2x teleconverter so thank you for that and well done! đđœđž
This is exactly what Iâve been waiting for. Seems like a fantastic update!
The additional comparison with the teleconverter is very helpful. I think it actually will give you a way to save weight and money if you sell both your existing 70-200 and 100-400. Thank you as always for your excellent videos.
These recent colabâs have been pretty great. If this is part of your efforts to make your CZcams career more fun, have no fear. Moar intelligent audience would enjoy this clever mix :) and as always, thanks for your informative and fun videos !
Thanks for the teleconverter comparison. I spent the afternoon digging around for tests on the old 70-200 with 2x thinking about replacing my sigma 100-400 and Tamron 70-180 with this and the tc. I'm just on an a9 so I'm curious how the sharpness comparison is with 24mp now. Fantastic review as always!
Thank you so much for testing the 2x TC! It's such useful information for the potential versatility!!
I think this is your perfect format. Still having the talking head studio shots for the nerdy explanations, but doing more field tests and bringing in some guests for a second opinion đđ» golden my man.
This channel is one of the best Iâve seen on CZcams, quality-wise. I watched this video till the end and gave it a thumbs-up though I have no interest in buying or experiencing this lense. Itâs just that good haha. Keep it up Gerald.
Super Dope! I see what you're doing with your channel and it's super dope!
Iâm loving to colabs! Great review. Have a wonderful day
Clear and informative video! Iâve held off buying the mk1 in anticipation of this moment. Looking forward to getting my hands on this soon :D
Thank you for the teleconverter tests! Crucial for weddings
Thanks for the very informative info relating to the new version 2 of the Sony 70-200mm. As always your video was great. Iâm getting one for sure but not getting rid of my Sony 100-400.
Excellent video Gerald!!! I have the 70-200 Mk1 and love it but the older I get, the less I like the weight. This looks like a good enough improvement to warrant the upgrade. I'll still get good $$$ on the sale of my old one. Thanks!
Thanks for your review, happy to share it!
Love your videos getting more outside and change of scenery. Big fan from Indonesia đźđ©
Gerald! Just purchased this yesterday and so excited to use it!!! :)
Thanks for the great review ! Did you try it also with the X1.4 teleconverter ? And if so , what is any better in terms of the flaws you mentioned for the X2 converter ?
Nice review! Is it focus by wire or mechanical manual focus?
Amazing as always!! I have really enjoyed your content, though am I the only one that wanted to see some more of your new flavour of content creation?
Regarding the parfocalness. Is it near parfocal with just autofocus engaged or also with it off? Thank you for the great video!!!
Oh wow! I always wanted a lens with this much reach. How cool! My 18-105 has a lot of focus breathing and can be frustrating. Thanks for bringing us this info Gerald. You are the man.
watching this hits a little different after watching the last video hahaha
Itâs like heâs being held hostage by storyblocks đ„Ž
Wonderful review! Might use that combination with the 2x instead of separately buying the 100-400mm GM.
Perfect comparison, covered every question I had. Definitely wishlisting the 70-200 II and the 2x TC
Thank you, Gerald. I have the mk I of this lens, and I was curious to hear your recommendation for upgrading. Besides the weight reduction, I didn't hear anything super compelling for me to upgrade, but I was wondering what other owners of the original version think about in terms of upgrade and what they find is important to them.
I have the A1, the mk 1 with and without the 1.4x teleconverter handled nicely for me at 10 fps in a low light no flash allowed event. The mark 1 also does pretty good for infrared photography on a converted camera I use. The one kilo savings, close focusing capabilities, and the ability to handle the AF of the A1 for the more demanding fps might be my reason for upgrading but I do have the 100-400 GM and 135 GM to assist.
I am definitely getting the new version!!! great review as always Gerald!!
Very tempted. And glad the intro music is back!
Great video! Thanks for the information.
Just some love for you and all the people in this community â€ïž
Dude, one of your best reviews ever! Thank you...
Love It! Love It! Love It!
That intro brings a smile to face every time.
Great Video!!
hello, nice review, and limiting to 1.4x teleconverter? how it perform? and (if you have tried, how is bokeh of 70-200 g2 macro)
woohoooo! I'm so happy you are reviewing it and very happy Sony keeps on improving their glass! looking forward to 24-70 lens upgrade as well.
That desperately needs an upgrade
@@joshuareveles totally agree! I'd even argue that the 24-70 needed it more, but this is a welcome upgrade
â@@stevenuseda6317 I would agree. for what I do 24-70 is much desired. dying to find out how far Sony would go to enhance mark II.
Hi Gerald, this is totally unrelated to your video but I've been trying unsuccessfully to find an ac power source for a Sony a1. I bought a tether tools on site relay and it doesn't deliver enough power to run the camera. What brand have you found? I know you use a kondor blue dummy battery but what brand of adapter do you use?
Super lens !!!
I always watch your review first. Simply the best format and most informed photographer đȘ
I just gone mine and I wondered what felt loose inside of the lens. Im guessing its what you mentioned at around 5:55 correct?
If we are using a 200 mm lens on a full frame camera , at what distance will a 1 mtr long diagonal placed rod / stick will occupy the full 35mm diagonal of frame ??
Where the a1 shots in focus? I notice the eye box all over the place. I have that issue with mine and it never focuses correctly. Does canon have same problem?
How does this compare to that new 35-150 Tamron? I only have a 24 prime now and I'm looking at those two lenses.
I was going to get the GM for my birthday this month. Going hold off and the the mkII for Xmas I guess.
Great review.
I just got this lens and notice a slight continuous noise, almost like the sound of a tiny motor or fan running, whenever it is attached to my A1 and powered up. Is this normal? Do you hear it coming from your lens as well?
I got one. But, There is somethings moving inside the lenses (like rumbling sound) without attaching camera. Is it normal?
Hello, before i get this i wonder: Is this sharper then the Canon 70-200 mm ultrasonic IS II 2.8. I am so happy with it and use it only for video. Sure autofocus on the Sony would be nice but is it as sharp?
Very good review. Thank you đ
Great vid! Would love to see a Sony 28-70 F/2.0 next, to keep up with Canon.
is it worth upgrading from the mark 1 version 70-200mm?
Super happy with my purchase! Iâll be using it on my new A7 IV. The weight or lack of it sold me as well! You wouldnât think a pound was a big deal but it so is a big deal. I also just went with a 1.4 converter.
Curious why the monitor came out for photos?! Recording the screen?! And also...is the buffer that big on the A1 or was that the monitor somehow coming into play?! I have been holding off on buying the 70-200 because it was so old and now I am STOKED to pick this one up! Thanks a ton Gerald!
Gerald out in the wild! I like it!
Darn, I was really hoping you'd take it to the arena to shoot some hockey/ringette.
That's where I'll be using mine.
Brilliant lens. I wonder how it with a TC stacks up against the cheaper Sigma 100-400. As in would it be worth getting both, or is the Sigma just obsolete there.
Hi I just bought this lens and I see that some parts are moving around in the lens when I use it. Is it normal
I was looking to get the 135GM for outdoor portraits. Would this zoom create those same dreamy portraits as the 135GM? It would be nice to have the extra flexibility of the zoom.
Only at 200mm.
Who is the model?
Thanks for the vid, Gerald.
Worth getting for the A7ii?
What was the lens you used at 3:40 on Lee Zavitz?
Beautiful countryside. Was that near London Ont ?
Really awesome Geradld đȘđŒ perfect for me for my fx6, or ? đ„đ best cinematic greetings from germany
Lens review aside, big fan of this new style/format you used in this video. I hope to see this more
JUST FYI, mine just spontaneously had the Linear motors break inside because it turns off by tilting now and it wiggles around in their fierce. been less than a year. So checking about warranty for replacement
Nice lens. Cool video. Thank you for sharing it âïž
Awesome... I was waiting for a lens like this for some time now
I know that many people don't like to compare primes with zooms in their reviews. But what can be expected in terms of sharpness when putting the Sony GM 135mm 1.8 @ 2.8 next to this lease @ 135mm? Obviously the prime is going to be sharper (especially this 135mm one), I just wonder whether that's by a large degree or more on a reasonable side.
Can you please make a video of Tiffen vs Schneider tru-match variable nd mk ii filter in these settings Shutter 1/50 with f1.4 or 1.8 at ISO 800 and use the minimun to maximum density of the Vnd filter ? I searched alot but there is not a single proper video of Schneider anyone made on any platform and Iâm really looking forward for your comparison video.
Looking forward to your review of A7IV next week
P.S tell us more about photo capabilities of the camera.
curious whether we are soon getting a 85 GM II...
100-400 has excellent minimum focus dist. What about 70-200 II + tele?
Hi Gerald, my daughter is living in London. Any advice you'd care to share about the live music scene and jamming opportunities (she's a musician).
Oh, man... I didn't realize I was unhappy with the mark 1 version until I saw this! đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Excellent job as always, man! Enjoyed the "on location" bit!
So is the 24-70 mark 2 up next?
Thanks for the review. I was actually almost decided to brake the bank and buy this lens (Mark I) but as this Mark II is killing the game, I am breaking the bank even more to get my hand on it.
Oh boy! I just got my 1st gen last year. Upgrade here we come!
I just bought a used but perfect copy of the MKl for a great price. I have no real complaints at all, not even about the weight, but this does sound very appealing.
When was it released
The wait is over đ€© waited for this in 3 years
Do you think there will be 16-35 sony gm soon?
Btw imagine 24-70 GM II having OSS and no focus breathing oh my
Do you think they will come out with a revised Mark II version of the 24-70mm GM to compliment this new lens?
Oh man. Added to my list. I only have a 35mm prime and have been looking to expand my glass.
Much appreciated Gerald!
Why do some shooters not understand the lens hoods helps you and use it, especially with flare shooting into the sun . I owned the version 1 of this lens and using the lens hood made a big difference. lol
12 reviews of this lens pop up in my subscription feed... always click Gerald's first đ
Now, THIS is Undone content!
Can this lens comfortably replace the Sigma 85mm 1.4 for portraits? I don't have the budget to keep both. Thanks Gerald!
Beyond 170mm it will give you shallower depth of field.
Does this have better magnification than the 100-400 GM?
