What a beautiful structure!I wish we made more houses like this in the konkan, sadly most of the people who stay in cities, tear down their beautiful ancestral homes only to build ugly looking modern houses just to satisfy their yearning for houses made with cement slabs. They give no thought to design or beauty or heritage. What is being built these days is mostly a collection of rooms meant to facilitate people's stay for a few vacation days and not carefully designed ancestral properties. That has changed the countryside to a great extent. What is even worse is that people think that this change is development in some way. How I wish people built houses like this one, which are meant to last for centuries

" ugly looking modern houses" totally agree to it.... Those are not just ugly but unhealthy just like junk food.. looks yummy but a hazard to health.... Cement, shiny and deadly tiles, chemical paints are simply poisoning...
We too had an ancestral property in heart of our city.but it was broken down and sold out because children were not interested in their father's house,they just wanted money.
They could have otherwise preserved it ,got together atleast once a year and cherished their childhood memories.but instead fought with each other and today don't even see each other's face.
