They would probably look with pure disgust upon the current Imperium.Ignorance, superstition and fear are ruling the Imperium, not logic, reason and rationalism,it has become the very thing the emperor wanted to eradicate. The next thing that could happen is a all on war against the ecclesiarchy and the inquisition or the space marines would fly as fast as possible to McCragge after figuiring out Roboute Guilleman is running the Imperium as Lord Commander now. Well, how they would react to the flustercluck that was the horus heresy and learning about events like the age of apostasy is beyond my imagination. probably they would bash their heads against the wall.If they came from a traitor legion the Inquisition would like to have a word with them... if they were pat of the word bearers before Monarchia,or Iron Warriors,Emperor's Children,Death Guard,Thousand Sons,Night Lords then they would be forced to proof their loyalty,or getting treated like heretics,if they are from the Lunar Wolves...weeell,it wouldn't be a happy "welcome back" treatment for them... And if they were from the Alpha Legion then it would probably be confusing."I am Alpharius, this is a lie..."

On the ogrens, have you any idea how much intelligence it takes to live in the wild as they did? They are not stupid. They don't have written language, but no doubt can track, hunt, build shelters, make fire, find food both plant and animal and care for their wounds and those of their families and tribe. This all takes a great deal of intelligence, just not technical and scientific intellect. IF the Imperium had really bothered to learn more of their culture, they could have gained a great many loyal fighters by offering things the Ogren could use but not make themselves. No doubt the Ogren would find it then something of an honor and obligation to their people. But of course, the Imperium as normal - didn't really bother to consider them as human, so kidnap, use drugs and treat them as animals.

Question: How different are the Imperium's stubbers and slug thrower weapons compared to machine guns we have today?
Question2: Mentality and method wise, is Belisarius Cawl closer to today's scientists and engineers than he is to most Mechanicus techno priests and magi in regards to how he does science stuff like developing, experimenting, engineering, etc?

    • @ismaelsantos5378
      @ismaelsantos5378 Před rokem +5

      To answer 1:
A heavy stubber is more or less a Browning M2 so they are very close to current day high caliber guns. The reason they are seen as primitive or weak is because small stubbers can be deflected by standard IG Flak Vest while the heavy it's a coin toss if the vest will deflect it or be penetrated.
Lasguns can penetrate the flak vests with a couple shots and with concentrated fire they can even pierce Ceramite power armor, Stubbers can't, the shots simply bounce off. Heavy stubbers might cause the ceramite to buckle a bit with concentrated fire, but nothing else.
      To answer 2:
Kinda. He is still a Magos and so a lot of ritual is involved in his method. But his mentality is closer to scientists, which makes sense as he worked under The Emperor, who despised religion, and spent ten milleniums working on the Primaris as well as their equipment, largely away from the rest of the mechanicus which meant he did not join in on the stagnation and eventual degradation of the techpriests mechanic/scientific aspects as ritualism increased. Cawl is very similar to Kelbor Hal, except KH sold his soul to the forces of hell while there are things Cawl will not touch, even if he really wants to (like when Guilliman forbid the creation of Primaris of traitor legions and Cawl accepted with a bit of dissapointment, which is kinda bogus with some legions as they were fine before their primarchs dragged them to heresy and some of the greatest loyalist champions of the Heresy era were from traitor legions)

The mechanicus is a cult of engineers.
They are closer to modern engineers than to modern scientists.
It is a misconception for peoples to claim that the Mechanicus does not innovate/invent because it does so, constantly and you only have to look at the endless variants of masguns, voidships, armoured vehicles and whats not.
What the mechanicus does not do (at least by and large) is actual scientific research of new concepts and breakthroughs never tried before. Cawl and other of his ilk attempt to do so however.
I think a clear distinction has to be made between invention/innovation as opposed to scientific breakthrough.
An invention can be a new variant of lasgun that is tweaked to work better in certain environment, or to have a large capacity per power packs, or to be smaller and more versatile. Fundamentally the lasgun is still a lasgun, just tweaked for specifics.
A beeakthrough is an entirely new domain of tech. Primaris for instance.

The geneseed is made to be used on regular humans. Ogrins, Ratlings, Felinids and Squats have likely deviated too much to be compatible.
You would either have rampant mutation by using normal geneseed on them, or you would have to develop a geneseed variant to make up for the differences, which will definetly result in a loooot of mutation.
With that said, while I don't think Imperials would do such a thing, that's something Fabius Bile would do (if he hasn't already).

    • @TheGenRex

      Exactly as said by Ismael.
Also, Ogryn have regressed mentally too far for Space Marines. A Geneseed would make an Ogryn an even more tanky, but the Geneseed would imbue the Ogryn with so much Knowledge, and tactics that it would probably fall vegetative or into a coma.

I wonder who would be considered the "Worst" Regiment of the Imperial Guard, since lots of people tend to give the Cadians or Catachans as "The Best".

Depends how you define the worst. Worst equipment ? Probably units from feral worlds who may be armed with flintlocks, muskets, crossbows or maybe even just spears. Worst soldiers ? Probably ones raised form people compleatly unsuited for military service, like population of paradise worlds or administratorum scribes.

@@ComissarYarrick That makes sense. I would have said "worst" as in "least effective" but there can be a variety of reasons for that.
I suppose a good benchmark would be to ask "What Guard Regiments, or types of regiments, would even the most beleaguered Imperial World be disappointed to see coming to their aid?"
Also - ARE there units started from Administratum Scribes? Because I would read that. Sounds like something you'd see in a Ciaphas Cain story.

I belive this happened druring Siege of Terra in Horus Heresy. Regiment was raised form adminstratorum clercs and scribes, and they all get masacred to a man in single day of fighting. Granted, in a battle against SM legions under warmaster command, so I doubt even top quality units would do much better.

I'm pretty sure a bunch show up in the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, lots of them are brand new and have very little actual military experience to go off, though some of this might be just that we are viewing them from the point of view of some of the best IG regiments ever raised

Closest in temperament would probably be the Mordian Iron Guard, closest in equipment would be the Armageddon Steel Legion
