  • If your cheap plastic impulse sprinkler doesn’t spin anymore, just sprays in the same direction leaving a big puddle, this tutorial is the fix you need.

Nicely done and might say perfectly done for what is basically simple problem to fix. Most people would throw away the sprinkler and replace it with another. I might have used a piece of sand paper to smooth things out when there is scoring like that, but you did it without and did not need it. Thank you for sharing your video. I have been playing with sprinklers since i was 5-6 years old. Now I am making videos too.

Thank you for this. I got this very same product recently as my starter sprinkler (finally paying attention to the tiny lawn after two years' of home ownership), and it stopped rotating after two days. I'll try this.

Thank you. Mine ended up having a tiny tiny rock inside the spray nozzle.

Many of times when it stalls it means your Ricochet flapper spring is too weak. They come weak from the factory or weaken over time. Please try simpler trouble shoots like above before trying to tension the flapper spring, here’s how to do it. Unhook the circular flapper spring on the top of your sprinkler head, if you have a place or hole to attach the hook on the other side then great all you have to do is tension it half a turn onto the opposite sides hook hole. If you only have one place to attach the hook you can drill a small hole on the other end or pull some of the spring out and snip off about a half inch of spring wire and just bend a new hook end then attach it to its original spot. Shortening or turning the spring tighter will give you the tension you need to bring the flapper into the stream of water. Be aware it may sound like a machine gun after if you tensioned to much but I assure you over time it will weaken and slow back down to a normal rate. I have done this to all of my sprinklers eventually and it has worked every time.

Happens to the not so cheap ones too.

The easy way to just push down on the top, which allows water to flush out the dirt between the stem and the nipple. You’re pushing against that spring.
This flushes that area out with water. Might take a bit, and I generally rotate the head as water is flushing it out.

I have 2 of this style, 1 exactly. This tutorial didn't work. Spent about 1/2 hr on both, with testing. Still NFG. One not only won't turn, but doesn't spray right either. I looked on line for the price to replace, and can't even find them listed. I'm sure my local garden shop will have them...cheap. (China). Wasn't worth the trouble to try and fix. But thanks for posting.

Can you not grease that shaft to help ? Assuming water doesn’t come in contact with the outside ?

Didn't think of that, but maybe worth a try. Sometimes grease attracts dirt and dust though.

I don’t have a notch on the bottom. How do you separate the parts.

Hmm - not sure. What is the brand name? Is it like the cheap plastic ones featured in this video?

I paid $5 for mine. When it stopped working I threw it out. A blessing. The oscillating replacement I bought is quiet. To conclude, don’t buy that type of sprinkler.

    Is your cat still alive?

No, actually not long after the cat attack it was tragically killed by the garage door.
