      Actually it would have been smart if they did something like PlayStation 3 did with theirs. Remove a cover flap, remove 1 screw and there's the hard drive cage, etc. Or on the PS4, you push down on the left side top a little and slide and there's the hard drive. Course they hope you send it in for repair so they can possibly charge you $$ if it's out of warranty.

      its actually faster over usb 3.0 thanks to both systems cheaping out and using 5400rpm drives that only do sata ii, you can add an external SSD with an enclosure that does usb 3.0 w/uasp that is worlds faster. its so much faster it removes the studder in fallout 4 on the xbone

    Very detailed and organized instruction video on replacing the XBOX One Hard Drive, I will admit however replacing the Hard Drive on the PS4 is not only much easier and user friendly but general tools can be used instead of having to use the specialized tools in order to get to the HD. 2 questions I have however...
    1. Will this same procedure work for the XBOX One S
    2. Can you use any Laptop HD instead of a specialized formatted one like the ones from the XBOX 360 days.
    again great Video.

    Great video but putting it back together is difficult. I found a simple option. turn the top cover upside down and release the front panel from the top panel by pulling up on the tabs. Then put the front panel in back on place first. This way the top drops right in like a breeze.

      Wholeheartedly agree. The Xbox 360 slim removable HDD design was brilliant! All we had to do was simply pop off a cover on the side & pull the tag to remove the HDD & best part no tools or voiding the warranty necessary. Now they expected us to get by with a 500 GB hard drive we cant even remove on a system that requires games to use up to 30 GB to install forcing is to buy an external HDD after racking up 5 to 10 games? What were they thinking? Obviously greed was involved in the design here. At least the One S is improved but I still miss the removable plug & play HDD the Xbox 360 Slim had.

Well a good Intel Core processor can have the price of an Xbox One then add the gpu, the ram, the hdds, the mainboard, the fan, the tower case, the power supply...
      And dont forget a mouse and a keyboard! Well if you find cheaper components then well done ! Though i would always prefer a console than a Pc cause i know if i run a game i can be sure it works!

  • @frankynakamoto2308
    @frankynakamoto2308 Před 7 lety +4

    They need to make a video comparing an internal SSD with an external SSD, to see the different speed by replacing the internal HDD.

    • @Sparatan117
      @Sparatan117 Před 7 lety +1

      USB 3 doesn't transfer files nearly as fast as SATA 3 does. 90% bump in speed from using SATA 3. However, the hard drive is the limiting factor. Installing an SSD as the internal HDD would bump your speed to ... ungodly speeds.

    • @frankynakamoto2308
      @frankynakamoto2308 Před 7 lety

      Sparatan117 exactly why not make an update so we can replace the internal HD with an SSD, or even better an M.2 with an adapter as if it was an SSD.

    • @Sparatan117
      @Sparatan117 Před 7 lety

      M.2 -> Sata 3 would negate most of the speed of the M.2. You're best bet is to just replace the internal HDD with an SSD... preferably 1TB or bigger...

    • @Sparatan117
      @Sparatan117 Před 7 lety

      It depends on the speed of the hard drive and the cache size.
      By default, all Xbox One consoles come with a 5,400 RPM hard drive. Most 1TB drives sold today are 7,200 RPM (faster read/write) but 5,400 RPMs are cheap... thus... yeah.
      Now a Solid State HardDrive (even at 500GB) is going to be 3x faster than a 7,200 RPM HDD. Once you get to that speed, other parts of the computer/console start becoming the limiting factor. I would bet that the ram in the X1 would be the next limiting factor ... if there's a 5,400 RPM HDD in the X1, I'll bet Microsoft didn't even put above 1660 MHz Ram in (slowest read/write)... because it's cheap...
      So to answer your question... yes and no haha... Depends on the speed of the drive. :)

    • @frankynakamoto2308
      @frankynakamoto2308 Před 7 lety

      Sparatan117 well regardless of how the RAM will limit the speed, of SSD is 3 times faster, but the RAM allows twice that speed, is a very fast improvement, and they should definitely make an update to allow replacing the internal HDD with an SSD, having an external SSD through 3.0 USB is just not the same.

      ps3 and ps4 both have very simple hdd upgrades. plastic cover then a couple screws. on pc (mine anyways) is the easiest since i have hot swap bays.
      the hdd upgrade is something they got spot on with the original 360. it was the easiest thing to do. i dont understand why they would do this. voiding the warranty just to get more storage. and not everyone wants to have a external hdd for it either.

      HDD is as internal component as RAM or CPU. It should be treated the same way to be honest.

      +Arkadiusz Dzik its a hdd. it should not be and never should be treated like ram or a cpu. (hotswaps come to mind) and what do you mean RAM soldered into the mobo? im not a pro and never would be but i have never seen ram soldered into the motherboard on something like a desktop. on a console ya, but you shoudlnt be messing with that anyway. all i ever said is that to upgrade your hdd in the xbox one is the most retarded thing to do and it voids warranty. the xbox one is just a flawed noisy design... and i have one. its still super easy to change and i dont think anyone here is complaining about the actual difficulty of it...
      and like a said. im not a pro and never will be. but i do have experience. built 4 of my own desktop systems put larger drives in a ps3 and ps4 which were both simple to do.

    They went out of their way to make replacing this HDD user-unfriendly. On this front, Sony have had the right idea for a long time. Even the original PS3 allowed you to replace the HDD by opening the clearly labelled bay and removing a few screws. What's more, although it could only use proprietary drives (without some tinkering), the 360 Slim had an easy to replace HDD. They've done it this way entirely on purpose to make people void their warranty if they decide to try it. My laptop's HDD is easier to replace than this, and my laptop requires me to remove 8 screws and split it apart with a pry tool.
