This is the kind of through, thoughtful, unnecessary research content i like.
Have you checked out Nick Robinson's videos? He researches a lot of wacky stuff like this.
Unnecessary!? How dare you good sir!
"unnecessary"?! So you rather things remain unknown for the rest of time?
Spell check: perhaps you meant "thorough" not "through".

I genuinely love how much lost media isn't actually lost and it's just waiting out there in some obscure documentary on Amazon Prime. I love that.
It's also extremely surreal to realize that I actually am less than a 2-hour Drive currently away from where that shot was filmed.
It's so amazing that stuff can be right under our noses.
I mean, anything is lost if someone doesn’t know where it is
The good news is you got a copy of Thrill Seekers to preserve and distribute to the generations to come
You should call him up, he might get a kick out of knowing people were searching for his identity for 20+ years, because he was in 2 seconds of a TV intro. He might not even know the clip got licensed for MIIM!
5:24 looks like he died in 2018.
@@twoface4703 the director of "the colour of skiing" miller, is dead, the skiier isn't
Imagine if he didn't know it was being used
He's alive. Call him up!
MIIM? Malcolm in in Middle?
That’s wild, I’m Canadian, grew up in the 90’s. The Color of Skiing is something we still watch in physical education class to this day. This is wild, that clip was always wild familiar to me. Our gym teacher thought it was the bees knees so he showed it to every class.
@Alex Sampson I went and watched the intro, that’s so damn awesome, I never realized it was that event! Being from Edmonton area, we never got big ones like that but I gallivanted to my fair share in my youth. I miss the 90’s.
It’s always weird how plenty of regular people know exactly what lost media hunters are looking for
What region? I'm Canadian and grew up in the 90s and I never saw this in my life 😂
For a moment there I thought that the video was about Dewey's actor having a horrible skiing accident or that fake Malcolm episode Bryan Cranston described in The Disaster Artist.
Wait, what fake episode?
@@ghhn4505 in the film The Disaster Artist, a character meets Bryan Cranston at a cafe and he talks about how he is directing an episode of Malcom where the kids would get lost in the woods and Hal and Lois would have to find them.
The info nobody asked for but absolutely needed.
L
Actually, hundreds, if not thousands, of fans were asking about this!!!
Finding the original source must have felt so good.
It's like catching your phone before it falls into a sewer
It's amazing that you just came out onto youtube putting your best foot forward with a video that's very high quality and just radiates so much effort, and you're rightfully rewarded for it. Great job stoop, I look forward to your what your channel holds in store in the future
Love how Chuck Connors called the guy a “stupid bastard” for lighting himself on fire. Lol! He ain’t wrong!
can't believe it's been 15 years since malcolm ended. i watched the first episode the night it aired, and the last episode the night it aired. god, that show was fucking awesome. would love it if it came back.
Same, I got it a couple months later because translation, but I also saw the first episode and last on its dubbed release date.
The last episode killed that series for me, I never want to watch it again. I thought the whole point of the show was growing and learning, and Malcom's arc would conclude by being a man.
NOPE! Lois is a genuine sociopath and controls her children's lives well into adulthood and beyond. Wow. What a message and positive ending!
I mean, let's forget that Lois expects the most socially awkward person ever to win the countries biggest popularity contest. So a sociopath and a total fucking idiot.
the show is on amazon prime, but i cant access it even with vpn, is there any country where it is available ?
Nah. Leave it be. They can't add to greatness at this point in time. They can only take away.
Unfortunately Frankie Munez has a brain condition that has caused him to forget most of his childhood, so he doesn't even remember Malcom in the Middle.
I never thought about the origins of the burning ski man, just the smiling anime dude.
I watched that anime just because of the MITM intro and I don’t even watch much anime.
@@DNPinthePP Is it any good?
@@ShinFahima I don’t remember I smoked a lot of weed back then. It’s called Nazca.

ikr? decades i've always wondered which anime was that
It's nice to see people actually still talking about this show. I feel like an old man when I make a reference to this and my buddies don't know about it lol
My wife just last night asked me what the guy was doing while on fire, I’m glad I found this video. Thanks.
I like how they put reese's actor's name over the footage of the burning skier because reese is the reckless one.
And Lois' actress over a monster rising from the sea
Man I watch the show a lot all these little bits make sense.
I love that after everything and purchasing a DVD from the new owners, you found the actual source streaming and widely available. Simply amazing.
Simply unfair
I love this stuff. The mystery of finding old and forgotten things. Its so relieving when it's solved.
Same, it's an awesome feeling when you find out at last - even if it's only "Lost Media" to you personally (which is probably the case for many people.)
You lured me in with Malcolm in the Middle, but you got me in the boat with Warren Miller. Two of my favorites!! I had no idea there was a connection, nice video and very informative!
This is a terrific first video.

"Gene Wurtele, who was gonna set himself on fire, stupid bastard" The lack of any pause of thought made me laugh.
Chuck Connors was a real piece of work. Dude had no filter. The Rifleman has outtakes where he goes wild, even by todays standards.
"And then ski off a cliff, more stupidity"
Back when people didn't get offended by everything
@@angryoldwhiteguy it was a great time.
@@angryoldwhiteguy Some people did, they'll always be people like that, but ultimately far more people who don't get easily offended (it can also be a phase, hence why people act like it's the younger generation - they're just at the age when it's easier to get offended, as I was back in the 2000s, but not now - the silly thing is, at the same time I was ultimately moaning about how easily offended people where back then, while getting easily offended myself.)
Wow, this is so interesting! A mystery solved using thorough research. A mystery I had no idea existed and needed to be solved, but a now solved mystery nonetheless. Nice job, my dude.
I remember being a kid and reading about a world record involving ski jumping while on fire. The clip from the show looked kind of like the photo in the Guinness Book of World Records. I always wondered if it was footage from the world record attempt. Good to finally know.
The interesting part would be how and why it ended up in the malcom credits
I came here hoping to find an answer to this, lol.
Boring answer probably my guess one of the people who put together the intro liked ski movies and remembered the scene
Because it was one of the popular and "viral" clips of that time lol. And also they showed that clip with the name of Justin Berfield, the actor who played Reese, who's the brother in the show who does stupid reckless stuff like that all the time lol. Was absolutely fitting for him.
I think they were just looking for clips that a pre teen/teen boy in the early 2000s would be interested in robot movies/sci fi/anime/daredevil stunts and a guy doing a ski jump on fire would definitely appeal to a young boy
@@steveharveysmustache3988 You solved it 👏
Ah, the wonderful twist of discovering that your lost media isn't only not lost, but an excerpt from the catalogue of an incredibly well known sports documentarian. The chronic problem with trying to be a pop culture detective is no matter how deep you think you're diving into obscure corners of the world, it's never more than just under the surface compared to the actual experts of those corners.
I wonder how much other "lost" media was just mislabeled.
Chuck Conners was my aunt and uncle's neighbor when I visited them in California back in 1981. It was such a desolate area they lived in. Away from everyone and everything. It was beautiful though. Nicely researched video.😊
Dude. This was some incredible sleuthing! You've got me hooked. Hope you do more like this!

How is this your first video? It's done so well as if you had hundreds of thousands of subs and have been doing this for years.
I agree, I almost thought this channel had just reposted the video from elsewhere but no, its his. And its a very good video at that
I went to binge the rest of his videos and felt cheated when there weren't any. I hope this becomes a weekly thing.
My guess is they used to have another channel or had worked for someone else's channel or has worked on something similar unrelated to CZcams.
A lot of people get video-making skills and experience without CZcams career, then show up with high-quality content from the get-go.
@@sjbucsok same. 😂
There are plenty of channels with a similar format to borrow ideas from. Its a good and interesting video but its not like he created a new genre or something
I have watched a lot of lost media videos that regurgitate stuff or are more speculation than fact. This is thorough, carefully measured, and has a very clear focus. Excellent presentation, and exceptional research. Thank you for putting in all this effort, it was well worth it!
Malcolm in the Middle is my all time favorite show in the history of television and this was a mystery I didn't even know I wanted an answer to lol
Its kinda funny that nowadays something is called "lost" or impossible to investigate if it doesn't exist online.
To be fair, something being online drastically simplifies the research
Might just make them feel better about themselves. It basically says we gave up looking so its lost. Thankfully some people continue to look because more often than not it does exist.
I mean if a piece of media was never recorded or the original saved, you can never replay it, you can never watch it past the original air, it's technically, lost media, not to be seen again
If there's no way to watch it, then yes, it is lost.
But there is an important distinction between lost and rare media. Rare means it exists as a VHS or download stream or whatever. Even if not online, I would not consider that to be lost. But there is media that is not viewable in any way. So that is what we're looking for.
@@wesleyhunt7599 ahh but newbies say anything not online is lost.
How can I find it if it's not online?
.
How many random post about that random Chinese cat show. Apparently some assumed it was a fever dream but it wasn't online for awhile. That can be considered lost if it wasn't ever found.
As of rn someone might say. Yea I've heard of that but wasn't it a dream. And as older generations pass we might call it a myth or legend if we don't have the proof.
Why is this so interesting to me? Things that have been lost or forgotten, but you know they have a story
Malcolm in the middle was the best. Grew up with it and still think it stands the test of time
Great from start to finish. I learned more about watching this video than watching over 100 episodes of Malcolm in the middle. Keep up your great work.
I never thought that the intro had this big of a mystery
When i first saw Malcolm in the middle I only had the first season on DVD and was pretty young, I got stuck with that cliffhanger ending for YEARS AND YEARS before I was able to get season 2.
Great video! Thanks for uploading!
This is the third video of yours that I've watched, and now I'm subbed. Your content is solid and right up my alley. I've never watched The Simpsons or Malcolm in the Middle, but these videos still capture my interest, because they're about the exact kind of deep, obscure trivia and research that I love, and they don't assume prior knowledge. Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see where this channel goes.

They could have also done Austin bloody in a sharpshooter lol

Dude. Your CZcams channel struck gold the moment it was born. Amazing, well done 👏
This channel is about to blow up. Interesting videos!
I have always wanted to know where those clips came from. I can finally die.
This is amazing for a first video. I mean it's amazing for a 1000th video, but to have this level of quality, research and editing on your first upload..impressive. I've seen that clip hundreds of times as a kid/teenager, fascinating to see this story.

I like how he doesn't artificially extend the time of his videos, he just gets to the point.
Damn dude! I religiously watched MitM as a kid, and I still love the show today. I’ve always wondered where all of those clips from the intro came from. So it was awesome to see this!
On a side note, I died on the inside hearing there might be a reboot. No, just no. Maybe if it’s some sort of sequel that showcases what the characters are doing now, but other than that....no.

Yes, Warren Miller -- the greatest producer of ski films who ever lived. Who else would have filmed such a stunt?
Good on you for archiving this stuff after you find it.
Not gonna lie, the version of the narration where Chuck Connors calls Warren Murtele "the crazy bastard" should have been the air version.
This is the CZcams content I miss. Reminds me of old CZcams.

bro I've seen 5 of your videos and I didn't know you made all of them, these are awesome
Dude I don't mean to overstep any lines at all, but as a voice actress myself I wanted to give you some tips: While doing voiceover, the expression and color in your voice is 100 times more valuable than trying to make your voice sound lower than it's natural baseline, where you usually - eg in everyday conversations - feel comfortable speaking and expressing yourself freely. You did super well on this video, but I can hear that you are trying to push your voice to a lower register and it makes you lose some of that nice intonation you were instinctively doing very well to begin with! It also results in a bit of a tense sound that makes the listener (or me, to keep it to a personal opinion) tense up as well. So try to relax a little bit for the next one :) The random listener has no idea who you are, so don't worry about any self-image you might have and focus on speaking from a more comfortable place. I often try to imagine the listener as a good (but not too close) friend that I am sitting next to on a couch and I'm showing him/her the footage, occasionally giving additional explanations for them to enjoy and fully comprehend the content.
lol, my neck and shoulders were unusually tensed after I watched this, thanks for explaining why :-D
I thought that tension was intentional, but I could be wrong and your advice is helpful regardless. Thanks for sharing.

So, the open question is, how did MITM get a hold of the footage (and I guess also, did Miller get royalties?)?
