  • The Creality K1 Max is one of a new breed of fully enclosed, super fast 3D printers. It comes pretty much ready assembled and requires almost no setup. It has WiFi, Ethernet and a webcam built in which makes starting and monitoring prints extremely easy.
    It uses its webcam and a LIDAR sensor for a number of AI features intended to improve print quality and reduce failed prints.
    I’ll run through its features and thoroughly test all of Creality marketing claims to see if this is the right 3D printer for you.

      If you have the budget, I highly recommend purchasing a Bambulab P1S or P1P printer, as they are much better options. I own a K1 Max, and I find it quite challenging to manipulate, with issues regarding bed leveling. I do not recommend it.

    • @DavidBealeakaFKD
      @DavidBealeakaFKD Před 29 dny

      @@GerardoNQ Was really tempted by the Bambu Lab products. Two concerns, one is they are not quite large enough and two some of the reviews of how their software works concerns me. No fan of cloud based connections - live in northern Canada with satellite internet connections, cloud work is a pain - especially on cloudy days (real clouds interferes with e-cloud connections). I used Tinkercad for example on the cloud and sometimes I'll have to wait and go get a coffee while it assembles the model. If they come out with a max - maybe I'll get over my security concerns, and if I can download the software and work off line that would be an OK work around.

Mine is still unboxed and thinking of sending back after a week..the main reason is a lot of reviews point to the cables at the top and their challenges with the printer, the flimsy door latch and non-laminate glass design and the bed level issues. I upgraded to the K1Max after my initial Creality Ender 5 Pro. I had two months trouble free printing then bang. On a largish print something failed and the nozzle started hitting the surface of the print. I contacted Creality support and after some emails bouncing around finaly got to chat with a guy on Messenger. With the information I provided they concluded the main board had failed. I am awaiting delivery of a replacement. After removing the base plate I noticed that the fan attached to the base plate had been hitting the cooling fins on the heat sink for the motor control chips. I will need to sort out a fix for this before fitting the replacement board. Thanks for a great review video.👍

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan  Před 7 měsíci

      I hope you're up and running again soon! I've taken the bottom off a few times and not checked the clearance between the fan and heat sink - but will next time! I have heard this mentioned on the Facebook groups - so maybe check for a solution there if Creality can't help.

    • @CharltonSupporter
      @CharltonSupporter Před 7 měsíci

      Creality advised leaving a screw out. Which I thought was a bit off. I think cutting a piece off of the fin to give clearance may be am option. There is one heatsink across all chips. Maybe individual heatsinks would be better. I will look into that also.

    I've had mine for about a week, and so far, it's been pretty good. I'm used to working with Cura, so I'm taking my time learning Creality Print. I haven't had the issues that you apparently did with the phone app. Mine seems to work fine with both the K1 Max and my CR-10 Smart Pro. I will say that the speed of the K1 is very impressive. I scaled up the benchy to 300%, and it took 4 hours on the K1, where it took nearly 4 times as long on the CR-10.

    The most thorough review I've found, thank you. I jumped on a K1 during the recent past 'Black Friday' discounts, under $400, I figured the K1 Max and K1 where the same except build area, nope. Seems no one had mentioned the A/C hotbed on the Max, that is not a small difference, that and the 1,000 watt power supply for the Max where the K1 has a 350 watt supply. It's taken me over the 15 day return period from Creality so I'm stuck with the K1, I also found out all the nozzles (.2~.8) are for the Max, there is no nozzle profiles for the K1 or K1C besides 0.4.

    Thanks for the review. I plan to buy my 1st printer next month and it's down to either the K1 Max or P1S Combo. Both are similar priced but the K1 can be cheaper with discounts. Bambu doesn't usually offer discounts. I have reasons to get both but I'm leaning towards the P1S because of ease of use, quality prints, and lots of possibilities with the AMS.

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan  Před 7 měsíci +1

      It's a tough one. I'm hoping to test a Bambu Labs printer soon. The extra size of the K1 Max is the big draw - if you don't need that then I'd definitely be choosing between the K1 and one of P1S or P1P depending on budget.

      If they didn't use proprietary nozzles and force their cloud it would be a no-brainer for me to choose bambu.

    Good review., thank you. I bought one just over a week ago and have been generally pleased with the results so far. Except when I printed the Benchy test file that is loaded on the m/c I noticed that the embossed text on the underside was barely readable. I have printed the Benchy on other m/c's and the text is usually distinct. I also went on to print a file of my own which has a fairly shallow 'engraving' on the bottom surface and it did not show up at all. I'm wondering whether this is something I'm doing wrong or whether others have had similar issues. Keep up the good work.

    I had a terribly twisted frame on my K1 Max and it made all my square prints into a rhombus shape. My lid was not even close to fitting on top.

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan  Před 6 měsíci

      Sorry not tested the MK4, but I will say I have the MK3S+ and Prusa Mini and choose the K1 Max over them all the time because of the speed and convenience. Plus having an enclosed printer lets you print way more materials much more easily. Personally if I was picking a printer right now between something like this or the K1 and a Bambu Labs printer.

    I wish it was. I have bought 5 of this model, over 10 of them in general. 1 has been decent from the start as far as K1 Max units. Not a fanboy of anything but what works as I expect it to. My bambu units I have work just about flawlessly from the get-go. I have no problem showing pictures and videos to justify my statement.
    I think it's a gorgeous printer. But the amount of shipping damage coupled with warped beds and consistent failures has me a little chapped.

    Ordered one of these, can't wait to get it. All of my other printers are smaller and unenclosed so this will be great for ABS, ASA and Nylon. The noise doesn't bother me because I've worked in industrial manufacturing facilities so I'm used to it. know someone with three of these in a print farm and he likes them so much that he just bought four more.

    Great video! I could not help but ask, have you had any experience with Creality's Hyper PLA (Black)? I recently purchased my K1 max and have had great results with the Hyper PLA (White). I carried out many test of a model I'm printing for a work piece and I was asked to print it in black. I do not know why but I have had nothing but issues with black Hyper PLA.
    The model constantly releases from the bed and appears to shrink or curl. I have tried glue on the bed, I've tried higher temps on both the nozzle and the bed I've also turned off cooling and still can not get the thing to print. Any ideas or have you experienced anything like this before?

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan  Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks! Sorry I've only got Hyper PLA in white and grey. Have you gone back to try printing white Hyper PLA - perhaps the test model speed Benchy? Otherwise perhaps try thoroughly cleaning the sheet with a bit of washing up liquid and a non-scratch scouring pad and then dry it thoroughly. Also run the bed levelling routine again. Has the PLA got wet at - perhaps try drying it out? It's unlikely to me it's anything specifically to do with it being black PLA.

    The only critique I have with an otherwise amazingly detailed video with so much information is that never mentioning the price. At 30 seconds it says "to see if this is the right 3D printer for you". Then 26 minutes pass until the price is mentioned in the form of links in the description.
    Yes, prices change with time or depending on region and all that. Would still be nice to know what it cost at that time to get some idea. Since the price is a key determinant for many people.

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan  Před 7 měsíci

      Is the printer on a stable table? Make sure you run the Self Check | Input Shaping again if it's been moved. Then run the various calibration tests in Creality Print. You won't eliminate ringing and some VFA at high speeds but especially for functional prints, the quality is pretty good.

    • @briankale5977
      @briankale5977 Před 7 měsíci

      Well, being a Creality paper weight, it's probably the garbage QA showing itself. Belts losing tension, extruder feed rate not uniform etc

  • @tabhinton6678

    Bought one. Printed a 100 mm part and it measures 99mm's. The holes wouldn't fit with the mating part. Finally got an email back from Creality. There is no method of calibrating this machine. So if you are printing a vase or a character it's great. If you need to print parts that have to fit together buy a different brand of printer

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan  Před 5 měsíci

      If you get consistent inaccuracies you could apply a small scale factor to your prints. Also where you print on the bed can have an impact - so might also be worth checking. I only print functional parts on my K1 Max and find it pretty good.

      - Local Printing (no sending my intellectual property to the CCP)
      - 1.6X the build volume
      - Faster
      - Non-Proprietary parts (can get any volcano nozzle)
      - Open Source
      - Upgradeable
      If Bambu used non-proprietary parts and had an option to print locally I would have gotten the P1S. They are trying to be Apple and lock their customers into only buying parts from them. I refuse to play along with that kind of behaviour.
