Swearing like george busch at a un conference had me weak
Good racing, mike seemed to still be pretty humble about villapoto beating him
Thank you for this gem. Love watching these old races from the era that I grew up watching racing in. 💪🏼 villo was a beast
441 Moto: always fantastic content. You can tell dude is truly passionate about dirt bike racing 🤙🏻
Hate the way his career ended Ryan is goated ❤
Back when outdoors really meant something 🤟
Ryan is a super human four 450 supercross titles in a row danm
I remember watching all of this. Alessi handled it better than I thought
What a great era of racing! I find myself bored watching SX this year.
Hype Kills Careers. Villopoto was overlooked as he didn't win as much in the amatuers but he turned it around. Such a badass, his time was coming and it came at the right time.
that's what worries me about Deegan, no offence to him. People are already putting him in the same sentence as McGraph, Stewart, Carmichael, Reed, Dungey, Villopoto, etc...
Jett too, although his speed and finesses is probably the best in the 250 class and he did win a championship convincingly.
@@snowzZzZz But at the time being in the late 2000s. Was not talking about our current era.
Jett came in and fans were hyped. Almost taking home his first win but having that crash, 2 years later he delivered supercross wins and 250 Mx Championship.
Yes, I was bummed he didn't make it to Anaheim but he will back in the east coast.
Jett is awesome personality, fitness, and mentality. The best young talent as of yet
@@eric6rock agreed, Jett has proven himself. He's the only rider that can consistently beat the star Yamaha 250 riders and he hasn't even reached his full potential, I just hope he doesn't end up with too many injuries. I think he's the fastest in the 250 class. Hunter is just as skilled but a bit more cautious since he's already dealt with a lot of injuries.
I think Hunter is a more rounded rider. I’ve notice Jett start to panic and rush especially when he has bad starts. I’ve also noticed that if he crashes once in a race he’s gonna crash again.
Great racing and was happy for Ryan Villopoto. Sadly I disliked Mike so much because of his father and brother. In retrospect he seemed to be a really good guy.
Mike is a good guy from what i understand, Great rider. Just lacked the mental stability on the track to hold a championship together. Guy had alot of pressure on him.
Alessi had the talent coming through the amateur ranks for sure, but it almost seems like he “walled”. When he hit the pro ranks he just kind of “ plateaued”, and he was plagued with bad luck and severe crashes/injuries/surgeries . It just wasn’t in the cards for Mike.
I think that was super tough on him. And I don’t think it was from a lack of physical training either, just maybe a lack of “the right training”.
Amateur races are short. Good start and 5 laps he will win. The pro races are so much longer he would always get caught and passed.
victim of helicopter parenting. tony never let him grow up and become a man
@@scottchelmford7136 My sentiments exactly, I just didn’t want to be the one to say it, lol. Kudos Scott !
@@scottchelmford7136 yea Tony threw his arm out in the amateurs and that outdoor crash on that ktm didn’t help
RV had the same thing it wasn’t until he was on 450s he broke away.
One of the most memorable races I've ever been too. Thanks
memorable?
Mike is the greatest holeshot king ever Ryan one of the greatest mx riders ever period
Awesome video thanks for putting it together. RV2 was incredible on 250f's
Umm, RV never lost an outdoor title on the 450 either, when he was healthy to race one..
Been riding and following the sport for nearly four decades. Been many many greats including the GOAT but RV rose to became my favorite. Love his style and the fact he was with KAWASAKI his entire career really says quite a lot for me. VILLOPOTO FOR EVER 💪😎👍
The way RV walks up behind his bike and hops on just shows he was there for business.
For me one of Best if not Best battles are 07 Villopoto vs Townley...man i love that race.
When a laser meets a eye
If you know you know
Nice One as Always 👍
I wonder if Alessi was on a Japanese bike if he would have had the little bit extra speed to keep up with Vilopoto. You can see that KTM dancing through the chop where the Kawasaki was much more stable. The PDS system doesn't fair well against a linkage system.
Villapoto was the beast, but Alessi was the holeshot hero! Two of my all time favourite riders.
Alessi greatest hole shot King ever just not made for the pro ranks his dad was probably his biggest hold back
I remember hearing Mike's Dad bragging that "RV never beat us in amateurs, never could touch us" but once RV went pro, and got on equal equipment. It was over RV, smoked him every year..
It's good now that usually the top 3-5 amatuers in each class have sponsors so it's a little more fair then after those guys u just gotta get sponsors at your local moto shop in town an scrape by for like the top 10 guys
Equal bull shit that Pro Circuit 250 was just flat out better.
had nothing to do with the bike, everything to do with the length of races. even in the amateurs mike was always faster on the starts and at the beginning. Minibike races were alot shorter, extra time changed the results. same reason I don't like the triple crown races, long races are the true test.
Mike comes across really good in this vid. I literally couldn't stand the dude i feel bad now.
Let’s just say RV2 has the more will to be a champion.
Great video 😁
I remember seeing Mike's dad on the t.v. fairlt often for his emotional flare ups lol yellin at this or screaming at that lol
This was such a awesome era, without watching this video yet i have some memory of i believe buds creek that year where Ryan catched and destroyed Alessi lol.
Video title should have been "12 minutes of RV waxing Mike Allessi"
3:28 if that happen now everyone in the comments would complain that was too aggressive and uncalled for 😂😂
Villopoto was like a hungry pitbull in this years and in lites...in general in his career!
My fav rider,ever
Even adopted 51 number on slovenian tracks hehe
2:15 “well… until now actually” lol
The start of one of the greatest rivalry of all time
Mike was like a beat dog already at this point with his demeanor and body language and Ryan was the exact opposite with so much aggression because he was probably pumped up by everyone around him. You become the environment you’re in so to say.
the end of a great rivalry. alessi had no chance to compete as he used to in mini classes, cause he was riding a bike with pds... if only his dad havent signed his boys with a multi year ktm contracts...
pds is great for enduro riding but its garbage for motos. ktm was on crack trying to run pds outdoor back then
@@Revy8 ik, i owned many ktm enduro bikes and imo pds is garbage in enduro too. only plus is the big clearance over rocky terrain.
Pds ?
@@MichaelAMyers1957 Lol
I was just thinking I wished he wasn't on KTM so we could have seen what he was capable of. Ryan had a much better handling easier to ride bike. Modern KTM...a whole different subject tho. I raced the linkage less one's tho & had dumb crashes I never had on my Hondas...mostly getting kicked over the bars thru braking bumps.
First I’m a very big RV fan but Iv always has lots of respect for mike for his skills and honestly .. I think if he would’ve gave up the supercross he would’ve been a 450 outdoor champ.. I think either he wasn’t in the best shape or atleast at times couldn’t go the same speed for most of the race for what ever reason but the speed was there a lot of the time indoors and outdoors especially and that plus being a fucking awesome starter he could’ve definitely accomplished more .. he was always very humble about getting smoked so ya definitely respect him and a fan for sure .. RV tho I mean dude was just awesome period ..
Mike met Ryan when they were riding little bikes
The pics of them in the thumbnail are max goofy lol.
I wish Mike would have won a Pro Motorcross or Supercross.
He won a couple 450 races outdoors.
@@accusynca yeah but there's certain rider's who try so hard and they deserve a pro Championship 🏆.
That ktm suspension looks like thrash
Man the bikes look a lot slower compared to today
They are
RVs voice hasn’t changed a bit
That George Bush comment had me cracking up
Mike seems like a gentleman. Very nice guy.
Mike never Had a chance with that shock man like a bucking bronco
Mike always was good at holeshots but could never hold first
He always won the 1 lap races..but nothing else
They both wanted it bad...it was inevitable lol
problem with always getting holeshots is you never learn how to win races from grit and raw speed, you never learn how to pass, you never learn how to turn desperation into results.
So when you are finally put in that position and a guy that was forced to compensate with speed learns to start, or has the time to catch you, it's obvious who is better prepared to win.
It's also discouraging when you holeshot but fall backwards, so this takes a toll on confidence and self belief.
Like a college player that never made it in the pros!
I remember all the announcers going on over how dominant Alessi had always been in the amateur ranks. Too bad that never transferred to any of the professional series. "Believe The Hype"... LOL.
Well he was an amazing racer. Amazing talent, but yes, inconsistency and too much controversy kept him from any titles. The man could twist the throttle outdoors thoe, he was no joke.
He did transfer it to the professional ranks what do you think you just watched bozo.
@@daffyduck9901 the talent didn't transfer. The domination
@@daffyduck9901 Believe The Hype... for life! Carry that flag.
I didn't catch that, were they rivals in their amatuer days?
Yeah, Big Time!
Villopoto just psychologically ate Alessi!
Mike needed more balls to fight
Anyone here after gypsy podcast with randy Lawrence?
One of these guys 4 peated in super cross take a guess which one did
What yal think Mike was listening to on the people ear buds
I never believed the hype!
Well, they already raced for years in the amateurs
Mike is the biggest DB that came through the sport. That family has been garbage since riding with them back in the day in Santa Clarita.
Thats why Vince Friese has a permanent spot on their team!
Yep
Always bothered me how some riders look back every chance they get.
Seems like Alessi had a better attitude about it all. On camera anyways.....
What’s so stupid is he called him a “ good kid” literally the same age
They were both teenagers.
@@tannenbaum3807 yea the same age
@@wildamericanarchery5129 They're both kids.
Calling it the lites class remains the dumbest thing ever
Mike spends too much time looking over his shoulder. Race forward!
alessi is so washed up. hard to belieb this guy was a 'contender'
Oh my god he was tiny
People act like alessi had a bad career. Dude won a LOT of races and made A LOT of money
Dude, how old are these kids, they look like they're 12
Ha you've never heard of the Alessi Brothers or Ryan Villopoto?? They're both probably 17-18 that year I believe
That KTMs suspension looks really odd and looks like it sits really high in the stroke. Looks bouncy and hard to ride
no linkage on those KTMs
T
I can't place the commentators, Dave Despain? who else? I recognize the voices, just can't place them.
I think the other was David Pingree.
They actually raced each other all the time in amateurs , and Alessi always won. It’s all in the Ryan villopoto documentary . So they already knew each other plenty well
The title didn't mean their initial meeting just that this was their first pro outdoor season together.
Alessi ran out of talent.
Lol mike is such a sloppy rider. He can't control the bike nor stay straight. Haha
villopoto is an angry little ginger. that pass was as dirty as it gets
Reminds me of another angry little ginger who also did pretty good in his days....#RC4 ;p
That’s not fair to say that about Ryan
Fully warranted. I remember watching this rivalry like it was yesterday. If you were put in Ryan’s shoes you would have been parking his ass too.
@@adamedwards2418 Well, considering I never saw Ryan acting / riding that way with any other riders, there's probably lots of things that happen during their amateur days that we didn't get to see I guess
Are you Gay🤣
5:45 If this was today's time the commentator could say that rv has mentally destroyed Alessis mind almost as bad as president Brandons
Man Alessis bike looks like absolute junk, and I'm a KTM guy. Wonder if it would of been different if he was on a jap manufacturer at that time
i never like Ryan V.
Same
How much did you know about the whole rivalry then?
