    Thank you, John. Your explanations and examples are clear and helpful. I was struggling with exactly this issue earlier today and I think that you've given me exactly what I needed to move my experiments in the right direction. Your generosity as a teacher is a benefit to the photo community and I'm glad to have found your channel.

    I appreciate the lengths you have gone to to describe what you do ,a lot of beginners can get a better grasp if you could give actual examples ,unless this is specifically for people who can already understand everything that you are talking about.

    Hi John, I really enjoy your videos, Im actually watching many over the past few days to decide what I will be buying for my whole studio setup. I work with a Nikon D500, this will be my first experience moving to this field of photography. I was wondering in these videos, do you use a speed light for any or all of them? And what would be a great versatile light for outside/studio. Thank you for sharing your wisdom! It means a lot to the people first starting out for their own venture of success with only a dream and a budget. You really have a way of teaching that is fun to learn and want to engage with.

    Hi John, any Idea when Lightroom
    will start to be able to support tethering from the R5. It seems many of us are stuck in limbo after purchasing the newest and greatest camera.

    • @JohnGress
      @JohnGress  Před 3 lety +1

      🤷🏼‍♂️you could set up a watch folder in Lightroom and use eos utility to tether. It would probably be more reliable anyway. I switched over to C1

    John, is your key often at f5.6? I usually shoot around f8. Do you prefer a wider aperture? Thanks for this video!

    • @JohnGress
      @JohnGress  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you! Mine is usually at 11. Although, I think I may switch to 8. Now that I can HHS, I am experimenting with 1.4, but I think it will just be something I will use from time to time.

  • @rainbluephotographystudio4283

    Hi, John, if I shoot portraits in an 8-foot ceiling room, is it too big if I use a 190cm softbox as fill light? Any modifier you would recommend? (I use Elinchrom softboxes) Thanks a lot.

    • @JohnGress
      @JohnGress  Před 2 lety

      Possibly. My 10’ studio is barely big enough. If u oh just need something for fill a 135 octa or 125 white umbrella might be a more convenient choice.

    • @rainbluephotographystudio4283
      @rainbluephotographystudio4283 Před 2 lety

      @@JohnGress Thanks John, I have Elinchrom 145cm(indirect) and 175cm softbox, do you think it will be a big improvement if I buy a 190cm softbox? (as fill light), by the way, I have a 2by2 meter scrim.

    • @JohnGress
      @JohnGress  Před 2 lety

      Probably not worth it for a fill light, but its not like I tested it out before. I need to do a test for the main light where I compare 120 v 150 v 190.
