Instead of the usual motorhome or 5th wheel retired life, we chose a van trekking lifestyle for our retirement years. It’s more adventurous and definitely a more nimble way of living life. During this pandemic we are trying to stay within 4 hours of our NC home, so a van trip across America is out of the question for us. So what can we do? Planning a rv road trip is never easy, but it helps to have a theme. Our theme this trip is to try to visit as many dams, reservoirs and lakes as we can in a 2-3 week period. Along the way, we’ll do our best to daily vlog the highs and lows. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

We want to thank each of you for following along on our Dam journey and for the comments that you are sharing. Since we are on the road with very little cell service we want be answering all the comments, but be assured that we read each one and they are greatly appreciated. We will try to answer any questions you have when we return from this trip.
The woods there are just stunning and I can only imagine them in all of their Autumn glory! Thank you!
We may have to go back in the fall just to see how beautiful it is. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful forest area. The world doesn’t have enough trees. Cheers!!!
I totally agree. More trees!
Love the daily blog Thank You !
Love your enthusiasm about the the. bear! Hang in there with the lithium, you’ll figure it out and end up being thrilled. As far as the generator goes, I saw that someone on toaw put a muffler on theirs and was quite happy about it. Maybe a future mod? Be safe and hug Maggie for me!
You were correct we did figure the new batteries out and I think they are going to be a great addition. We may also look into the muffler. Thanks for the suggestion.
We love Cades Cove!!! It’s one of our most favorite places on this Earth!💗
It one of our favorites too. Thanks so much for watching.
That is my favorite area of the southeast. Love it.
It’s one of our favorites too.
The views and scenery in this episode are stunning. A mama bear and cubs is a slight to stay clear of. The rattlesnake is safer lol. Enjoying these videos a lot. Not boring at all. Just our speed.
We appreciate your comment.
Thank you again for sharing your trip. Nice & Quiet just the way I like it. Be safe.
You are so welcome and thank you for watching.
Another great video, thank you for sharing !! Be safe be kind !!
Great video. Love Cades Cove. Did the loop not long ago. Remember to look up in the trees for bears as well. Thanks for the adventure.
We alway check the trees. Thanks so much for watching.
Glad you're enjoying. Love the poem "Trees". Very cool that you went to see it!
Loved the video
Man ,that was a beautiful drive today, thanks for that.
Imagine my delight with your today's adventure. I had memorized the poem "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer in elementary school because of his beautiful words. I didn't realize that Mr. Kilmer was a brave solider in WWI and had a National Forest named after him. My husband and I will definitely visit this area! Thank you very much for sharing!!!!
Trees
By Joyce Kilmer
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
+Joyce Moses Lynn loooooves that poem just like you. Thanks for watching and commenting and beng connected with us. it means a lot to us!
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle Thank you!
Might be heading up there(Cherohala) next week. Sandy said great minds think alike.
Beautiful scenery..nice trip.
Thanks, we appreciate you watching.
It is such a beatiful scenery...thank you for beautiful video. Now I know how much working to make a one vidio😌
You are so welcome and thank you for watching.
Hello my friend, I looked at your speedometer and it said 44,444 miles and it looks to me that your little van is just broken in. When I got 50,000 miles on my van I felt like we had a relationship. Then when I got 100,000 miles on that van it became a love affair. Every once a while I know you put your hand on the hood and give it a little smile. Stay Thursday my friend.
+The Bill Baker you sir have some vast experience to share. We're glad you with us on our journey.
Good one...
+Wayne Johnson Thank you for letting us know you loved it.
I always laugh when people talk about boondocking or dry camping. When I was a kid, we just called that camping. 😊👍🏻
You guys are the best. I have the name for trees and the thing is that what did all life trim trees. Tell Maggie I said hi and give her a extra treat.
Really enjoying your daily vlogs. But keep moving west! We'll meet you half way...that's about Utah isn't it?

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment and for sharing the history that you learned from researching Joyce Kilmer. I am a lover of trees so this place was very special for me. Be safe and much happiness to you.
Look forward to hearing from you everyday. Thanks for taking us along!
+David you are so welcome.
I hope y'all get a chance to ride the Ebikes around the loop. Check your listing to see what days are closed for car traffic.
+B. Randolph we had to leave before the just bike day which was Wednesday. Still loved it though.
thanks for planning my vacation at the end of September! I love trees and hiking, too.
+Theresa Corral it will be a great vacation for sure. You are very welcome. 👍❤️
So, I know very little detail on this, but from my Roadtrek group, I remember them saying that if your replace AGM's with Lithiums, the underhood generator will not charge them. There's another step you have to take to make that happen...something with a Balmar? Sorry for the vagueness, but might point you in the next direction. Enjoying your travels in those beautiful Smokies!
Thanks for the advice and for thinking of us. It was something really simple and we'll talk about it in Sunday's episode.
Cades Cove is beautiful as is the GSM and full of bear....and people, lots of people.....did I say lots of people?
+Glen Littlefield yeah. Tons of people. Too many people you might say. The bears are good at hiding from them for sure.
Alternator Charging of your Lithium Batteries require a special device to accomplish that. I’m no expert, but I know charging lithium is a different beast. Hope this helps.
I love that area! The sights and sounds of the forest were beautiful (I call it the music of the forest...birds chirping and water rushing). Thanks for taking us along. CC is a wonderful place. My sis and her family camped there and were visited by skunks who walked under their chairs as they sat around the fire. They. were friendly and didn't spray anyone. We always want to see bear. Once we had driven the whole loop...nothing...and as we were leaving the park and got back out on the main road, a mama and her 3 cubs came up from the right and crossed the road right in front of us. Those moments are just really special. Hope y'all have a great evening and get to see at least one bear before you leave. Thanks so much for bringing us along with you! Your friend in SC, Jane ❤️
Good morning! Hope you guys are having a great journey today. Can't wait to see it. 🌞
+Lisa Robison Thank you for the sweet wishes.
I love Cades Cove! Hope y’all can ride your bikes through without all the vehicle traffic. That would be fun! Question: you’ve mentioned being retired. What jobs/profession are you retired from? Y’all don’t look old enough to be retired. 😀
Love love love that area! Have been rafting on the Nantahala River many times! I think how lucky sweet Maggie was that day she walked out of the woods to the river to find you two every time I see you guys lovin on her! Was Lynn flossing? 😆
+Sandra P yep. Lynn was flossing. Something our granddaughters taught her.
Joyce Kilmer is on my to do list!
+Jules Burroughs awesome spot for sure.
OH Dam, Another Dam good Video about a Dam trip to see some Dam DAMS....
👍. 🙏
Owen, I’m late in commenting here, and you may have resolved the alternator/not charging the lithiums, but: Could it be the solenoid that’s the issue? (In the black box.)
We did resolve the not charging problem, thanks for the suggestion.
So what do you do with your wet shoes and Maggie when you return from a hike?
We have towel by the door for Maggie and we usually change shoes and store the dirty ones where we can clean them later.
I checked for you. You can walk or ride bikes everyday around the loop without cars until 10:00 am.
I commented before you can't mix charging profiles. What I mean by this is a the charging profile of a lead acid battery requires a higher voltage to recharge (14-14.4 volts). The charging profile of a lithium battery takes a max voltage of 13 volt (aprox) after 13 volts it will not take any more charge to protect it's self from over voltage. Lithium batteries like the voltage that they are at the moment (9-13v APROX) and like maximum amperage. Just the opposite of lead acid batteries. I you want to have two different types of batteries you need two separate batteries chargers. You just can't drop lithium batteries in were lead acid used to be or you will experience the problems you are having. You must use one type of battery or the other and change the battery charger profile (or the whole charger) to the batteries you are charging.
Thanks Glenn. I appreciate the knowledge share. According to our resident expert the charger in the Travato dan charge both though it as efficiently. Our problem is the early 2019 Travato we have came with the alternator and solar wires directly rot the AGM batteries instead of the black junction box. Later ones were wired better. Even though others are safely running the AGMs with Lithiums we are dropping the AGMs when we get home. The amount of power it takes to charge them is only half of what we get out of them due to age. So the two maybe three Lithiums fit better. Thanks for the info b
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle @VAN TREKKING lifestyle I don't know the travato systems. But I have never seen anywhere mixed types of batteries charging. Best of luck and happy tails!
Even though others are doing it we are going to follow your advice. Don't need the AGMs anymore so it's an easy decision.
