I’ve been on bikes since I was 5 in 1967,actually since 1964 when my dad took me for my first ride on his’58 Pan . These‘buggy’ whips are a poser thing that weekend warriors want to play with to look tough. Saw a guy with long trailing fringe on his Fatboy have a strong wind push his frills into his front wheel at a stoplight. Thought he was cool until the fringes locked his wheel and he dumped it. Whips are a poser thing. A real rider knows he’s a target anytime he gets on the bike, accepts it,and in extreme circumstances, deals with it like a man.

I have ridden solo trips all over the US without one. Including California where they are considered weapons and anything hanging from your bike that is not "permanently" attached is against the law. I don't know of any clubs that actually attach these to their bikes. Riding down the road on a bike pretty much makes these impossible to use unless you are at a stop. Using these against a dog just gives the dog something to grab onto. Using one against a person or their vehicle, well nowadays, you're likely to get shot. I carried one on my bike for a few weeks because I liked the way they looked. However, it just seemed to get caught up in my crash guard and in the way of my brake pedal, so the coolness factor went out the window and it got tossed in a bag with various motorcycle parts. Since then I've had plenty of people, including an ex-boyfriend who used to be in a 1% club, tell me they are for wannabes. You would be better off carrying a gun or tazer for protection. Or even a pipwrench or hammer which are perfectly legal. If it's dogs you are worried about then a can of pepper spray shoots a much longer distance than a modified dog leash. Personally, I carry a variety of protection, depending on where I am going. About 20 years ago there was one spot in a horrible unmaintained gravel road where I kept getting chased by a big German Shepherd. One time he bit my leg and drug me off my bike, causing me and my bike to go down. I had words with the owner and he refused to do anything, and the dog kept chasing my bike everytime I went by. I love dogs and I hated to do this, but I carried a can of wasp spray on my bike to keep this one dog from attacking me again. Getting sprayed once is all it took and he never bothered me again.

Exactly. A piece of leather doesn't make up for 3-8k of steel. Not to mention one could wipe themselves out trying to swing it at vehicle. Seems like a really stupid idea to me. Personally I would not get one longer than from your hand to the crook of your arm. In my case that's 12" for a spinning diameter of 24". Also the correct length for a professional baton. Any longer and you could injure yourself badly.
These days, I use a wooden bead necklace to practice my spinning routine, usually dancing in my living room! Oh you can still get hurt, proper length is critical. My take, thanks again!

The clasp is called a "panic snap" and is used most commonly for hitching horses in trailers. If you pull on the rope hard enough, it will release in the same way as pulling down on the sleeve, although there's a much stronger spring in the rope end. They're designed this way so that if a horse falls in a trailer, the panic snap will release, and they won't be hanging from their halter inside the trailer.

The guy got smacked and laid his bike down holding his face and the guy with whip hauled ass out of there. It can be rather subjective as to "purposefully cutting you off". I'll give you a short story.
My, almost 17yr old son, had an incident with a rider in a parking lot. While pull out of a KFC with shrubs higher than the Accord he was driving, he inadvertently maneuvered into the path of a rider. We know the guy for years too. His son played football with mine. There was no impact nor was the bike dropped. Scared the shit out of my boy. Huge lesson learned about blind spots and being technically and tactics proficient with driving. In the immediate haul he apologized and proceeded out of the riders path. The rider turned around and pursued him to a stop sign, which I personally think was warranted. The boy needed to be addressed and told to get his head out of his 3rd point of contact. But this prick commanded him from the car and dismount his bike. The guy(rider) isn't big, 5'9" and about 215ish, round in the middle, not intimidating to say a avg stature adult male. My sons reaction was to egress the AO which infuriated the rider. He began pursuing him around the block. My son simply kept going around the block. Apparently 3 separate people in the area witnessed this and began following and observing. During this time, he struck the vehicle damaging the A pillar but missing any glass. At one point the guy almost got himself killed by pulling along side my son's car and into oncoming traffic. He eventually forced him into a parking lot of the medical center and blocked his car in. The boy wasn't thinking clearly enough to leave himself maneuvering room. He again dismounted his bike and with whip in hand approaches while threatening. Luckily the witnesses also stopped and had called the police so the engagement was short lived.
The reity is, had my son not been a pragmatic, that guy would have been injured and or killed. As experienced riders we have to be expecting the worst. We have to anticipate the inexperienced. This candy assed attempt a bravado is really just escalation that will result in no good outcome. A cager outweighs us by orders of magnitude. Has a cockpit surrounded by blind spots and will unintentionally kill us at a moments notice. We have to be the superior operator, the cut above other road occupants. This shit talking, cognitive dissidents concerning this whipp and my "stay back 1911 or Glock", is wilfully chosen stupidity. You will more than likely, needlessly injure or kill someone, including yourself. Possibly worse end up in a cage for a good portion of your existence. Had I been driving instead of my son, what do you think would have happened? Who do you think would have been at fault? The moment he began pursuing and attacked, he essentially forfeited his life. Especially with witnesses. Had my son panicked and flinched, during that attack, he would have had to live with that shit. The other guys family could have had to live without a husband and father. Imo, probably been better off with the I surance money. Just nonsense really.
I ride and I've encountered both sides of it. If we are honest with ourselves, it's probably been damn close to 50/50 on fault. I have never had or precieved anyone try to intentionally cause me harm while riding. I've experienced extreme negligence, inattentive operation, distraction and just common blind spot issues. I've been riding since my late teens, I'm 51. I've riden too fast for the traffic conditions, passed on the wrong side, rode In a blind spot. I've been an inferior operator. I've been lucky and I've learned a lot over the years. This "get back" shit will get people hurt. Use the attributes of the motorcycle to your advantage. We can decelerate better, accelerate quicker and are overall more agile. We have huge mass disadvantages and will always loose in a collision. A riders best tool is their ability to create distance. Just like a gunfight, distance and situational awareness are your friend.
Yogi, if you want to do a service, you should discuss this for what it really is. A bunch of immature, Tough guy BS, that will lead to escalation and needless mayham.

If any ragin' cager purposely got "too close", they'd reach down, grab one out of the broom clips, and sail it THROUGH the guy's windshield!

I've got a pal who's got 2 young boys, 5 and 8... He asked me if I'd help him build a swing set as a surprise for them.
I straight up told him that kids today would break their necks just looking at a picture of a swing set.
He said "yep, you're probably right" and forgot the whole idea 😁

My daughter’s first bicycle had these tassels. It was a “Barbie Bike”. This is just another example of Harley riders being posers.
