â@@masterfarr8265 I think Wheeljack is a lost mold alongside Mirage and Sunstreaker, so we'll most likely never get a reissue of him (I think there's KO reissues of him out there for those that want him in more pristine shape since a lot of the copies of his OG toy yellowed over time, besides that I don't think he's ever gotten an official reissue.
The most recent prowl reissue I can think of is the 2003 one from Toys R Us so hopefully his mold is still around and he'll get a new one some day.
@@Magnazar-nx6wz Then again, they have shown they're not above remolding toys whose originals are lost, the Beast Wars reissue Rattrap is an entirely new mold due to the original being destroyed. Though I think that if they ever did that, they'd probably do the Dinobots long before Wheeljack.
@@prismavoid3764 see, examples like that always make me wonder "Why don't they just get one of the KOs, reverse engineer it, and essentially bring the mold back from the dead?" I would love to get my hands on an X-9 Ravage that doesn't cost an arm and a leg just for a loose copy.
@@Magnazar-nx6wz Unfortunately mold-making is by far the most expensive part of the production process (having to remake the Rattrap mold is widely believed to be the reason they were selling a $5 toy for $20). My guess is that they only did it for Rattrap because he's a main character from one of the most popular shows in the franchise
It really does suck that we'll likely never see a re-release of that Ravage though, I looked up pictures and it looks rad af, would love to own one

Flip, click bang convert. I dig the simplicity and elegance. Might need to pickup this guy since I like Hot Rod.
Another possible change I noticed compared with my (seemingly) vintage copy. I see molding for his forehead wings on the new one, but no such molding exists on the original. It could be a camera artifact or something, though.
Looks really good. I personally prefer my Hot Rods red, but he wears the pink very well, and I will admit it hits my nostalgia pretty hard. Plus the extra paint work really brings out the cartoon accuracy this mold has always had, but never gotten to show properly.
He remains one of the all time great G1 figures... And that paint job is so, so good.
I own the g1 reissue that was released 4ish years ago. It one of my favorites for transforming. You know those transformers that are more fun to transform to and from vehicle mode than they are to actually play with? Thats g1 hot rod in a nutshell. Also i prefer the original toy cherry red and Crome. Nothing wrong with the cartoon accurate on it just a personal taste thing
11:00 Well, it was for me. I was sad/disappointed I couldn't replicate what was going on in the show.
I think I'll play the long game and wait for a clearance. That's how I got all my G1 Walmart reissues.

The different color scheme and lack of stickers really do make the toy look better
14:45 when you were zooming in to show the pin missing, I noticed the wheels are thicker on the re-issue than they are on the vintage one
Hope they can make more of these. A Mirage, Sideswipe or Sunstreaker would be excellent.

Maybe it's just from watching too much anime in the 2010's, but that shade of magenta is just an eyesore, especially when it's being used to replace red.

I wonder if the reason why G1 hot rods knees were hidden in his legs was because he probably was around the same height as the Rodimus figure and you can't have the younger form being the same height as the older form

All I found so was the starscream one witch to me not worth it. Really want this hotrod wish it was in stores

As for the lack of chrome, I must humbly disagree. Look at MP40 Targetmaster Hot Rod. The pipes are still chromed out on that one, so Hasbro definitely could've used chrome here if they wanted to. Odds are all that stunning paint work ate up the budget.
I'm still always a little amazed that SS86-4 is even capable of transforming, and I own the thing. That figure just has a _clean_ robot mode, even if there's a bit to be desired in vehicle mode.
@@flametitan100 If you don't already have it, you should get your hands on Kingdom Rodimus Prime. Despite being more detailed up, he's definitely got a pretty clean robot mode as well. (Though I personally feel that they fumbled the ball with the silver face and grayish silver hands instead of white/light gray for both, something that the Power of the Primes Rodimus Prime figure actually got right)
@@DragoonMS I've debated getting him; I'll have to double check some things regarding shelf width though. Might be a little too narrow for him to display it in platform mode. Still, he looks real cool, and I'm glad he uses his actual hood for the chest, even if the pseudo mass shifting is one of my favourite parts of the Studio Series figure.
I wish they reissued the targetmaster version. I was so tempted to buy the book reissue from the 00s so many times.
This one should have the bigger peg holes for the Targetmaster. The pegs on the standard guns got remoulded sometime during all the reissuing.

I kind of like the red better but being a lighter shade does set him a bit more apart from Rodimus Prime.

As a kid, I felt like the 86 movie/Season 3 character toys were too far away from the animation models. Ironhide/Ratchet territory.

Do you have access to a Targetmaster Hot Rod? Id love to see all 3 next to each other. Ive never seen a G1 Targetmaster in person and I am unsure of the differences
The elbows on mine bend 90 degrees without effort.
I bought this figure as soon as I could! Question though, how does the plastic compare between the G1 and the new figure? it feels a little light for my tastes but I want to make sure it's comparable.

probably an unpopular opinion here, but i actually prefer the red over the pink
I really don't like the new color scheme, especially the non-chrome parts. When it's compared to the original, the new version looks like a cheap knockoff to me. Also makes you wonder if having no pin in the shoulder area, will it be more prone to breakage? I mean, they are using not good quality plastics in the modern toys. I do like the box artwork though.
"Not good quality plastic" is a go to complaint that has never been proven, the toy feels fine. Also if anything, the pinless hinge would be LESS prone to breakage because it would separate from impact without breaking the hinge, unlike the pinned hinge.
@@TJOmega Good to know. I am still gonna pick this up since Hot Rod is my favorite Autobot character. I found a Starscream in the wild, didn't pick it up though. I saw the reviews for that one, and I really do like the colors on that one. What sells these reissues is the box art for me.
Hopefully it's different in person, but on camera, the gray / beige plastic for the exhaust looks absolutely vomitous.
