  • In this video we look at the salon classic the pixie cut an all time favourite of mine, the pixie cut has been popular for nearly 70 years now, It is timeless and will always be in fashion but in my experience some stylist find cutting hair that short to be a challenge in this video will look at the most simple way of doing a pixie cut, But not with one outcome in mind 2 different pixie cuts. A seamless soft sweeping pixie cut that is a little bit longer in the fringe, and a shorter more textured choppy Pixie that you can wear spiky or flat and messy.

    Love his video. As someone who has pixie 🧚🏼‍♀️ cuts for 20 years I know when I get a good one and I have had some disasters. Some women have short hair and I’ve been very short changed over the years by people who obviously don’t think short female hair is a real thing. Focus at the moment is on the loose waves and we get forgotten.

      Rachel Whittington Thank you Rachel you’re exactly right the focus at the moment is not on the classic skills of cutting hair it’s all about colour and wavy hairstyles to best show off the shine in the hairstyle but these fundamental styles will always Be in fashion and I think it’s important that people can execute them well so that people like you don’t have to put up with disastrous hairdos ✌🏻

    Stuck in quarantine and want to try the first version with my husband's help. It's lovely. Your technique for the bottom section is so well illustrated, looks very doable. But we're totally lost when you transition to combing out the top section, since at that point you don't show what to do. I think the words you say are that the top has "a simple square diagonal cut on it", but we don't know what that means or how to accomplish it. We're average people LOL, not trained in hair cutting - can you please explain how we might go about cutting the top section? Really want to give this a try. Thanks!!

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  Před 3 lety +2

      Oh yes I see what you’re saying now it’s a long time since I made this video so I cut the sides as you saw in the video and the top is something called a simple square layout where you elevate the hair straight up from the head shape 90° and cut a square line to the desired length you want to achieve the reason I didn’t do that on this particular video is because the top was already previously cut and it was more about disconnecting the top from the bottom hope that helps all the best James

    • @HisBeloved2Cor11_2
      @HisBeloved2Cor11_2 Před 3 lety

      @@TheLifeOfHair Yes, that's helpful, thank you!!! Do we lift the hair in sections vs cutting the whole top at once? And I'm guessing we cut working from front to back? In other words, lifting with the comb perpendicular to an ordinary center part such that we're making cuts from side to side? VS lifting the hair up mohawk style to cut from front to back, parallel to a center part line (having a hard time describing what I mean). The answer is probably obvious, but like I said, we're totally novice. BTW, your approach to teaching is awesome! By far the best hair cutting tutorials I've run across. I only wish I'd found you back at the beginning of this pandemic. :)
