Gruberova is one of the most phenomenal singer's of the 20th century without question. Her longevity as a performer is truly admirable as the Bel Canto repertoire exposes more than many singers care to hazard in their glory years. Nonetheless, as with Caballe, the composer's intent was discarded too often. Rarely were the arbitrary piani, glissandi or fermati in musically inappropriate parts of what was most often intended to be sung as an unbroken legato vocal line dramatically relevant. For fans it's awe-inspiring, for purists annoying. Her fame and survival instinct outside the circle of industry support allowed many of these works to be heard. I am grateful for her total career and whatever moments of greatness we were able to experience in recent years. A few flat notes from her are nothing compared to the pearls that her throat generously delivered throughout her career.

Pero ella sigue hasta el 2018 en Conciertos de Cámara a cantar " a tono". La gran Luciana Serra a tiempo se retiró y no fuerza su voz cuando canta en privado.... ejemplo de " cantante".
Better than many current sopranos, yes, but her technique only serves to sing in high notes and with too much portamento. Belcanto is much more than that.
She was the best but she´s turned into a meowing cat destroying this Bel Canto masterpiece. Most singers don´t know when to retire and this is the sad result
She makes much portamento ... this is not belcanto. But she has good technique. The "invented" ornate version is out of style. The sharp end inelegant. However, I consider a good soprano of the twentieth century. She had to retire from the stage ... it would be more honorable.
I don't agree with you. To have seen her for one month in Berlin, I can attest she's exceptional on stage, and provokes a great emotion in the audience. Whatever her age... Modern young sopranos don't take risks, and that's why Gruberova is considered the ultimate diva. A la Gruberova perdoniamo tutto : e l'ultima diva !

Too much decibelios and speed !! I would prefer Montserrat Caballé’s version definitely ! Gruberova is a legend in lirico-lleugero roles !
