Two of my favorite ladies! I'm surprised they took the cut in the Czardas, because Popp can certainly sing that section, unlike most Roselindas. I really like how much fun everyone is having in this production, dancing and laughing...it's palpable!
Die Fledermaus is a delight from beginning to end. I have fond memories of singing (chorus) in this operetta. The ladies, compatriots, in this performance are wonderful. I wept when Lucia Popp died of brain cancer at age 54.

I’m pretty sure Gruberova did sing at Met, didn’t she? I’ve seen her old picture, where she was standing next to the Traviata poster from Met (Gruberova as Violetta of course) with “sold out” tag on it.

Gruberova: the only soprano in recorded history whose breathing is louder than her top notes :P Her performance here is really good, though. She's enjoying every minute of it, which affects the overall performance. :) Popp is sublime, as usual.
Yes, I thought Lucia would have been better as Adele, and Gruberova as Rosalinda. They both sound great in either role to my ear, but it does seem like they should have swapped
Prime Gruberova was incredible. Instinctively musical and her coloratura was sang like the purist instrument. Scooping was always an issue but no one can doubt her skill before she turned into the nightmare of the past 15 years.
Satan brought her back in a pre-prepared vessel, knowing she'd get killed (that "drained" her, "of course" …): Do yourselves the favor and google a so-called "human" called Jeanette Biedermann. And try to see through the make-up. Remind you of anyone?! Then check her IMDB and understand Satan's own sense of "humour" in her roles and the name of the series she's been in … And then spread the word! Aaaaaaaargh! Popp is back … Quasi: Pop(p)o - that's _back/behind_ you know?! (In German.) (And you're _all_ pretty funny …)
Operette ist heftig-gerade der chardas..tief und hoch gleichzeitg. Eigentlich etwas für einen Spinto-Sopran-leider geben die meist keine gute Figur ab😅
yet the real star here is Lucia.. can you feel how difficult it is to sing these roles with a Full Body 3 register voice as Lucia does here? no drop of volume in any register... Im always at huge admiration for singers who sang with big support of their middle voice, it makes the singing so incredibly difficult

for some voices trills can be too heavy weight lift... I think Montsy was the same category...

Perfect role for Gruberova (Popp was actually amazing as Adele). Popp is stretched but sounds perfect in this rep and is just a delightful presence.
stretched because she sings this full body voice without the slightest compromise in any register... very few did this
