I come back to Callas videos every so often to just marvel at how insanely beautiful, talented, intelligent, cultured she was and how important she still is.
Don’t forget temperamental Her fire was also an important aspect to her performance and her universal appeal “ the bigger the star The bigger the black hole when they burn out” I hope she is now resting peacefully
She is the height of elegant intellect... i feel humbled by this wonderful strong woman... people today are looking in all the wrong places for truly strong women! They pale into insignificance next Lady Maria!
Yes! And this is the first interview that is not about his personal life or her character (which are regrettable). This really shows her like the genius that she was.
Cara Callas, such a remarkable talent, used and betrayed who felt better to be left alone, and died far too soon, her beauty, voice, statue, intellect; the world of opera was blessed to have had her.
Love the diva moment @7:50 when she says "Wagner is much easier to sing". The interviewer interjects: "in a way, yes." (pause) Callas: "in EVERY way" and continues lecture without hesitation. LOVE HER!
I agree. ❤ And unfortunately, we do not get often this kind of beauty anymore. It looks as though everyone is trying to look the same. Imagine if Callas was young today how much she would feel the pressure to make her nose smaller, her lips even fuller etc. She would have a lot to put up with before gaining confidence in her talent.
@@A.V._Blank_FairyI look very similiar to Maria (I even have the same name as her) and I’m proud of my Mediterranean features! Unfortunately most people my age are trying to change themselves and it’s so sad
This is such a profound interview. The intelligence and depth of this woman in so many areas of subjects puts to shame the fluff that people are interviewed about these days. Just nonsense and stupidity. Brava Maria.
She is at her house in Paris, sitting on her Sofa.. But She looks as she was about to sing "Casta Diva" at any moment!! Only Callas can give you.. That Flash. The one and the only 🌟
Albeit I never really followed the Opera world but came across this clip by accident. The name "Maria Callas" elicits the word legend which aroused my curiosity. I must say after watching the clip she really did live up to all I imagined her to be. A truly sophisticated and very cultured creature. No Diva today can compare.
Divas that have Greco-Roman background and know the heavy burden that comes with, can truly be incomparable. It's like you take a peek at Plato and all of them teaching.
The interviewer was the son of the Princess Royal -- Princess Mary who was the daughter of King George V. His mother was the sister of QEII's father. Lord Harewood was an opera expert who did much to make opera more popular in Britain.
One of the most remarkable women to ever set foot among us mere mortals. How I wish she had been happier, especially during the final lonely years of her life. Viva Callas.
Even at this age, Maria Callas was so sexy and beautiful. And her voice was so breathtaking and heart-melting. And she had a beautiful mind. I wish there were more women like her.
She had so many great ideas. She really was next level as far as performers go. So much so that I don't believe an of her contemporaries or those who came after her could approach her level of sophistication when it came to understanding what she talks about creating the mysticism and atmosphere that makes theatre work. She was able to create a credible believable character out of some pretty bad story lines where others might sing well but act ludicrously. This insight was her's alone and she found it I believe through the truth of the music and her identification with it.
What I love most about this interview is that what Callas talks about is so full of meaning. Do not admit doubts. And when you hear it in opera performances you find its essence. Your truth in music and then you are enveloped by it. What a woman and what an extraordinary artist she was! Brava!👏🏾❤
Callas was a fascinating interviewee. She exuded authority, great artistic insight and incredible magnetism. No doubt she was the supreme diva (in the best sense of the term) of the 20th Century. Controversial and temperamental NO DOUBT! however few operatic first ladies portrayed tragic romantic roles (Vissi d'arte) with such honesty, commitment and intensity as Callas; a facet of her art which certainly galvanised, moved and excited audiences.
She didn’t even like Tosca, she’s recorded as saying she didn’t believe in the character. Her truest and therefore best personaggi according to herself are Violetta and Norma.
Wagner said he never wrote a meaningless note. Callas never sang one. Never has there been a more compelling, more commanding, more fervent, more dramatically glorious voice. Even when she is only speaking, as here, she holds us spellbound.
I think she was the greatest opera singer of the era of recorded sound... bearing in mind that it was not possible to record music in true high-quality sound (high fidelity, as they called it) until the late 1950s/early 60s, exactly when Callas was at the peak of her career! Wow.
Everything she says is so knowledgeable. You must have a pianist to keep you on every note! She is also warm and human. A lovely interview. This is invaluable. I never knew who Maria Callas was, and this shows me.
1)Callas statement about Opera that should adapt to its time👌. Today they are still performing lengthy tiresome pieces hence people are not coming to watch and many opera houses are sinking into debt because unable to sell ticket, relying on banks donation. 2) Callas statement on Contemporary music, intellectualized sounds that give you headaches instead of soothing your soul.🙏 3) The interview starts with a master class on how to build a role from the first look at the score to the stage performance. Thanks for posting...
Parts of this interview, with the camera focused on her, are missing and replaced with a longer shot of Serafin. She was relaying a pivotal memory and her facial expressions were priceless. Every available nuance of her in this documentary should be shown.
I have this downloaded on my phone. It so generous of her and for singers is a masterclass! However I get very protective of her and her interviews, some people took their advantages from a already fragile woman. If one day I get her fame I will treat them Like shit, just like they treated her
I am a Greek and is very so I can't tell with out words like not recognized your patriot i mean one talent with career global to give in new generation to understand what mean the culture of music
What I love about Maria Callas is that she digs in life's concepts looking for passion , she is never satisfied with only one formula or with one style . And if you think about it in a CERTAIN WAY you'll feel that she is right , because sometimes after you reach your aim , or lets just say "your success" you ask yourself : " Is this actually a success or should I dig for more ? " Because the moment you reach this destination there is no challenge or struggling , there is only the part of enjoying the success ( I am not generalizing , I am specifying definite situations ) How do you feel about this perspective ? Do you agree with me ?
An insanely all round perfectionist. BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED AND master of her subject. Jackie was taught how to get a man and honed all all her skills how to achieve this. Callas probably thought being a diva was enough to achieve this, who won in the end Jackie.
Ma no, non c'è paragone fra le due. Onassis era un un farabutto rozzo e pedestre, il suo solo sentimento era il denaro. Egocentrico e narcisista, non poteva tollerare quella divina donna, che gli era superiore milioni di volte.
