Nice to take a peek inside one of these things, I always was curious about them. And 8:00 i totally agree, i practiced on boards like these, especially for the chips. Cost me nothing and who gives a crap if i break it
True as a first responder I agree , AED as long as the user doesn't panic will guide them through with simple voice prompts, what should be stressed is make sure everyone is clear AED's have a high frequency bite. Say for instance and I have had it nearly happen that a loved one reaches and and grabs the incapacitated, then you have 2 people in need of resuscitation, AED's will stop a heart the same way they can start one. May I add that now common de fibrillatorys , where first brought forward and used here in Australia on Kerry Packer the media mogul who was having a major heart attach , near on coronary occlusion it saved his life and he made a grant to have them fitted in every emergency ambulance in Australia. They have come a long way since then indeed. At the time we called the Packer whackers after Kerry Packer.
I imagine it expired, as they do have a shelf life. Chucking it into a dumpster with all that nasty stuff wasn't very nice, however. AEDs are something everyone should learn how to use along with CPR, which you can do in an afternoon. They're also surprisingly inexpensive if you want to purchase one for your home or business, it may save your life one day.

Tons of goodies on that board. If I had that I'd year it down and try to tap the amplifier that powers that speaker and maybe cut it out of the board. Did that on an old TV and actually got it working.
Hi , sorry for thumbnail. CZcams generates the thumbnails for my videos automatically. I guess I had better start generating my own that represent the video better. Thanks for watching .
It's a medical device. We do not repair them when they expire. Liability. Sorry. It's better to bin it than repair and recertify. All it takes is one refurbished unit to fail and cost someone a life and there is a seven figure lawsuit in the wings.
Interesting that it has a standard capacitance listing, but then the label also has the actual measured capacitance of 116.274uF, the dissipation factor, and the ESR. Man, would be nice to have that on all caps predone so one could bin them.
u should take that chip with da gold sticker, it probably sum type of memory and those other chips u called scrap were probably ram and a microcontroller. great chips 2 collect yk
Well, this was a total waste of time! You would think that you would have realized going in that there wasn't going to be much hobbiest parts available in a ruggedized piece of medical equipment.
Hi Danny, one of my intentions was to make sure no one would try and power this device up and harm themselves. Besides, this unit is no longer certified and it's use would probably make lawyers a lot of money.

2 of those caps would work in ham radio Linear Amplifier. N0PXJ

I imagine you'll have dead raccoons if you use that cap :)

The irony getting killed by the AED.... 😲🤦♂
The huge blue cap in the thumbnail felt a bit like a clickbait since it wasn't in the AED, but it was still interesting.

Will you cry?
Might be interesting to check if there is a serial interface to the computer on the board....
Wow. Someone throw away a $1,900 unit because of a $50 set of batteries.
Like 95% of the vacuum cleaners in the landfills, there because the 2nd filter was never cleaned/replaced. Easy fix, but toss for a new one.
@@gavincurtis Such a waste.

Do you know what CPU is in here
That one is good for 300 watt-seconds.
At 5:10
I almost thought for a moment that you had an robotic ashtray.😄

Hi Abrankod, Considering these devices are used on humans, you can bet they were put through extensive tests.

Use proper punctuation. Stop talking like a moron.
So a bank of 12 400v capacitors at 56400 uF would be the opposite of an AED, got it, thanks.
I'd put new batteries in it and keep it around if self test passes. $2000 piece of kit when new that can still save a life.
Million dollar lawsuit if you use it and it malfunctions
Great comment if you don't know how 2 use a screw driver.... I would have added you should not be opening up things.. Danger danger Will Robinson
