1) you can wall off the fire so the chickens don’t catch fire and they still get the warmth
2) chickens will eat dandelions
1) just to be safer use hanging brazier.
Finally someone reporting on the real news
😂😂😂
Missed you! Can't wait to see more Valheim ....
Another tips about fire, use hanging brazier so that chicken won't be killed by fire accidentally, and yeah it's more expensive materials by using chain and 5 bronze also it needs coal as a fuel, but once u get the chicken I'm sure u already own those materials to built.
they eat dandelions too. finally, there is an effective use for those annoying flowers
You don't use them for potions?
potions? bro....
@@BelegornHK yea, you use ONE flower per 6 potions. Now you only have 99 of them laying around lol ;)
FIRESPARK SCIENCE RULES! Thanks for sharing. I think CZcams should provide you with an honorary doctorate for all the research you do on this game (and others).
Thats crazy my homie and I found two eggs in the bottom of a sealed tower in the plains
Can't wait for this update to get back into Valheim and all the fresh vids from FireSpark!
Finally, getting them new Valheim videos. 👍
Damn fire spark, your videos are always intuitive and answer questions I may have. It's like you play these games and have the same questions as us.
Finaly someone who does a in depht video! Love it!
Don't have PTS but been watching. Built a sloped pen. It has the food at the top on flat flooring, wide wooden stairs sloping down, and a stone fire embedded (just above where the eggs will roll down) in a pillar at the base of the slope. Hoping eggs will roll down, chickens will run away after due to fire, and hens will chill on the sloped part in order to eat/produce more eggs.
Genius!!
Many thanks to the one and only FireSpark81!!!
Thanks for the info!
great work like always . i enjoy watching your valheim guides
and dont let P.E.T.A. see you raising chickens in only 2x2squares 🤣😅🤣
Dude you know this.
Great info, spot on.
Impressive analysis.
Thank you! That was exactly what I needed.
Thank you for the chicken science!
I had a little house made of pine next to the main house, I love building in this game, my boyfriend told me why I made so many houses and rooms ? now boom!, it's the shed for my chickens, already had 15 beautiful chickens and number is growing ! :D
You can feed the chickens Dandelion too.
They also eat dandelions. You can also create a chicken breeder like the boars, lox and wolves. My husband figured out a nifty one that also hatches the eggs.
Oh that's awesome to hear! Any chance you'd be willing to share his design here? I'm currently trying to work on a good chicken breeder system like that.
I can't wait to see the video this guy makes
Thanks once again for your great tips and advice
so fun fact...in Permaculture every chicken needs a square meter of space in a pen at a minimum, seems the devs nailed it! Thanks for all the time spent and experiments done!
But can they fight!!??? Needs Chicun army 😤
I have built a breeder with 8 chickens, it produces so many eggs its insane, nothing else can be bred so fast and easy as chickens
Life uh, finds a way.
Chicken master ! ty for the tips
You can use Dandelions also. That's what I use and a Crypt to breed them
8:07 I wonder if the space detection is similar to wolves & boar. As long as a part of their body is above a surface area, it will count it as free space. That's how a lot of the factory farms work, where you make the animal peek its head through the wall which causes it to detect the floor outside the wall with its head. Hens seem too small for that to work but it could be worth a try with Cage Wall or Dvergr Metal Wall.
Awesome as always!
Adult hens also do not like fire. It will cause them to cower or bunch up in a corner. That makes them less likely to find food set down for them and slow down egg production.
Prefect I will try that. Can chickens eat Danelions and can wolfs eat raw and cook chicken meat?
Dandelions?
i love fishing and am waiting for some one to do a video on all the new fishing stuff
That gonna be a hot min cause it's currently broke. No one can give you an accurate video cause ya can't pick up fish lol
@@Firespark81 oh bummer
Can you move the hen's? Doesn't the eggs need a fire to hatch when you have hen's in the pen?
Seeing this video, I have reached the conclusion that you need 2 chicken farms.
Chicken farm 1 for eggs
Chicken farm 2 for live chickens to turn into meat.
Thank you for doing the work so that I don't have to!
So I have a question, if you have two chickens in a raised building, kind of high up, and have them breed and the eggs they lay fall down (not sure how to do this part) onto the ground, near a fire, and have them hatch, I wonder if that could work. I think I recall seeing someone make a wolf-breeder similar to this way and I'm curious if it could be re-purposed for chickens,
Yea not sure if automation is a thing anymore but I'll mess with it and see what I can do
Great video, however do u know by any chance why I can't get Eggs in shops ? I killed bonemass do I need kill 4th boss ?
The 4th boss is the Dragon boss Moder, yes you have to kill her if you want the dragon tears to make Artisan Table and Blast Furnace for smelting Black Metal into ingots for paddled armour.
If you want Chicken when Mistlands is released you have to kill Yaguloth the 5th boss.
Excellent vid! I can think of a couple of questions though: Can you get stared chickens? And do they breed in all biomes? [hoping that a plains chicken might be a one star!]
Hmmm ya know I didn't think to hatch them in higher level biomes. I did dark forest and Meadows. Hatched tons and never got a stared chicken. Will test other biomes. If there is a change I put on an updated video.
I've bred a ton of chickens in the Plains, no stars unfortunately.
Watching Gordon destroy people both logically and emotionally is always one of the best experiences.
?
I love that comment. I wish you will get God bless 🥰
Thanks for this! I had 20 chicken in a 5x5 and only got 1 egg per 2 days which was annoying. I'm trying to make an optimal farm so I can train the new Fishing skill with Max Stamina.
If you wanna breed 20 chickens efficiently, build a 10x15 pen, and put seeds near each corner. You will be swimming in eggs in no time. I get 20 eggs after about 30 minutes of play, and I'm only breeding with 10 hens.
How does the chickens work along other tamed animals? Mustit be 6 foundations away from all other tamed?
So no chicken farm, in the likes of boar and wolves?
Must the roof be removed after hatching? The fire removal makes sense, but I like to keep roofs to prevent death by drake. Lost a whole group of 2 star boar to drakes once.
Yea I mean you don't have to remove the roof I just think it looks cleaner. Just make sure there is no fire close by.
They eat dandelions too.
Can you find the second dealer with the ship or do you have to uncover the Black Forest completely?
There is only one trader
and if you attack the chickens....is padded armor enough to survive?
Tell me you have been traumatized by zelda without telling me.
I would like to point out that it is much more space efficient to use a larger pen. In the space you used for 4 pens and spacing between them, you could have instead combined that into one pen and let the same hens run free in that uniform space. They will give you 20 to 30 eggs before stopping production. So don't bother with the 2x2 pens, go 10x10 and breed with 8 to 10 hens. Cover a small corner so it is very unlikely any eggs will hatch. You can now use that corner to replenish your hens should you lose or harvest any. Now you will be swimming in eggs.
One more, important enhancement for breeding chickens. Build a double wall around the perimeter. The hens love to glitch through walls, even the thick stone blocks. To prevent them from doing that, build the outer wall, then run an inner wall with the half high wooden walls (easy to jump and see over) all the way around the inside of your outer wall. You should space the inner wall 1 meter from the outer wall, giving some walking space in there. Now when the hens glitch through the half wall, you can pen them off, break open the half wall, and push them back inside the pen. Simple fix, and it really argues for a single large pen, as the double wall and hen management is much easier in a single large pen than with a bunch of 2x2 pens spread about.
Bro is the chicken chancellor
omg. never thought raising chicken can be this complex... 😅
do you need to keep them in an enclosed area? Built a chicken coop in a fenced off part of my base and they will not produce eggs despite feeding them both 3 times, is this because they roam around the fenced area and not the coop?
They need to be under a roof. So yea, build the enclosed area and only let those out that you think should not lay eggs :)
Can you get stars on the chickens?
Yaggy tats fell last night, chicken for dinner tonight ❤
What about the food from chickens?
Just use a hanging brazier to hatch chickens.
I hate that you have to be so far into the game just get get a chicken egg
you can get eggs earlier by doing hildirs quests. the sealed tower can have eggs in a chest.
i have a question about the food, can the seeds be stacked? will they eat the whole stack if they can be stacked?
no they will eat 1 seed at a time
But yes you can drop the hole stack and they only eat one seed off the stack
Can you plant barley with the chickens to feed them ?
yes
Did you try other light sources if they work for haching?
Yes I could not get smaller lights to work has to be something that gives rested buff. So camp, hearth, bon
Another tips about fire to warm the egg(s), use hanging brazier so that chicken won't be killed by fire accidentally, and yeah its more expensive that using chain and 5 bronze also it needs coal as a fuel but once u get the chicken egg, Im sure u already own those materials to built.
Can tame a wolf at the beginning but have to wait until 5th biss for a chicken?
Yup that's valheim for ya.
Do eggs fall through any floors?
Try not to throw them near the wall. Lost one because when it spawned to a chicken it went through the wall into the fire.
I thought the chickens were also supposed to eat dandelions too.
they do
What foods can you make? Or is it all just chicken or egg?
Mushroom omelets (high HP) and honey-glazed roasted chicken (high stamina)
Do the chickens starve or something? I bought an egg and it was warming in my pen by the fire but when I came back from a voyage it just disappeared.
Did it show the status "warm" before you left? If not, it will never hatch. Also, did you build a barrier so the chic couldn't hurl itself into the fire? If not, those little guys seem to love burning themselves up, and when they do, you get no drops, no feathers, nothing. My bet is that your little guy hopped in the fire.
@@silascz3535 I put the fire IN the pen to warm the egg.....The little guy must of burned up then.
At about 8:15 into the video, it's mentioned that 2 chickens in a 1x2 will make 8 eggs, and 4 chickens in a 2x2 will also make 8 eggs....how is having the 2x2 more space efficient? This wasn't clarified, or was there a mistake here? 2 blocks is more space efficient than 4 when they allegedly have the same egg yield.
was thinking the exact same thing. by the explanation having two times a 1X2 with two chickens each yielding 8 eggs for a total of 16 would seem the most effecient considering the number of chickens you need. maybe this has something to do with the fact that the coops have to be 6 blocks apart and this would be less space efficient overall?
@@nele513 ya that could be the only reason. But I think most players are just going to either make a more roomy set up for them, or build the auto farm
i believe its because 4 chicken will produce 8 eggs faster then the 2, while being more space efficient then having 2 1x2, i think he was thinking in terms of egg production speed instead of minimizing the amount of chickens.
what about vertical pens? Do they need to be spaced out as well?
On a side note the chickens are not scared of the fire there was a greyling wandering around making them scared/curious not that that is a big deal but ... the more you know.
i breed three chickens but two are disappeared :( is there a bug?
Nah just an alpha chicken
I spent all my coins on 2 eggs and when the chickens spawned one of them died
😂😂😂 get troll hunting, I've just logged in and my mates have bread them in my room chickens everywhere
Can I not let the baby chickens to roam without a roof or fire???? They have a house with fire and shelter but they roam and move around so much.
They don't eat and aren't growing so I'm assuming have to keep em in the house till they become hens
Not that it matters, but those are the most expensive chicken eggs i have ever seen in any game, haha.
1050 gold, compared to all other item prices is quite a difference.
Yea and you can't get them until super late game. Kinda sucks.
@@Firespark81 hahahahah you could alway raid a mate farm and steal some eggs mahahahahahahahah
How often do they drop feathers?
You have to butcher them to get the feathers. They don't drop them on their own.
chicken breeding tower like the other animals
I can’t get a straight answer from google is the mistlands update available for regular players yet?
yes just use the public test version
nope just the beta test version
Depends on what you mean.
It is not on the live branch yet
however it is on the public test branch.
If you are on steam you can play it by going to your library -> scrolling down to valheim-> Right clicking and going to properties->betas-> public test
@@stevencolor3389 thank you for info this is exactly what I needed.
So, I was worried about bat raids killing my chickens. I did not hatch my first two chickens at my base. I hatched them somewhere they will never be killed unless I choose to kill them, a cleared out Troll cave.
wish i had thought of that before the bat raid that killed my only chicken
Valheim was fun until they came up with those dumb bat raids.
@@2MLG434U I had 2 bat raids wipe out my flock. What the flock! I always keep spare eggs and seeds but still. I had to watch helplessly as my flock was slaughtered.
I read a guide on Valheim chickens that said that they will die if not fed. Is that true? Wolves and boars will not die if you don’t feed them. Why would chickens die?
That is not correct. Starve them all you like, they won't die. What they will do is jump in any accessible fire, and burn themselves up. The chickens love to do this, and you will get no drops from a burnt chicken. The other behavior they love is teleporting through walls. Eventually all your chickens will free themselves of your pen and wander off to be killed elsewhere. To stop this, use a double wall to pen them in. My strategy is to use the super large stone blocks for the outer wall - at least 2 blocks high, use a much bigger pen than described here (10x10 or larger), breed 8 to 12 hens, and use a second inner wall of the half height wooden wall, spaced 1 to 2 meters inside the other wall. Then when a hen teleports through the first wall, you will see them. Box them in, box a space in the coop area adjacent to them (so other hens don't get in your way), and then break the inner wall in between those spaces so you can push the cheater back home. No lost hens, and lots and lots of eggs. No need for an auto breeder.
Missed me spark of z fire
you forgot dandelions as food they can eat
Do the chickens require sunlight to produce eggs?
Not that I noticed.
My hen keep escaping. I don't know what else should I do, I even closed them in a henhouse with no windows and doors and yet I found them dead outside this place . -_-
They are teleporting through the chicken coop wall. It doesn't matter what material you use, they will teleport through eventually. So build a double wall. When you find a hen in the buffer space, knock down the wall, and push her back in. Problem solved.
Will tamed wolves attack chickens?
Chickens aren't considered tame....
The devs have obviously never heard of Tyson farms. Chickens don't care if they are close to other chickens.
Not just defeat yagluth, actually kill him on that world. You can't just put up his trophy and call it good.
So you can't kill him on a friend's world and then go use their merchant to buy eggs?
@@nblife916 nope gotta end him on your own. Learned that one myself with plenty of testing
@@nblife916 yes, you can. I just did this earlier. Used my private world with yag already killed to buy two eggs, then loaded back into my new world with only Eik killed. As long as the world is flagged with a Yag kill then Haldor will have the eggs in stock.
"Ultimate guide." Doesn't cover the pens or use braizers.
Has this been tested lately? Does this still function?
It does. I am doing that right now in my game. I made a few small changes...
I copied the 2 x 2 pen with the low walls and the half roof that he started with. Because the eggs sometimes spawn or hatch through the wall, I surrounded that with a 1 wide walkway around all four sides and used the low walls again. A bit of a pain to upkeep but worth it. Outside this, in line with the roofed section (but I don't think placing is super important), I built my campfire, with a roof covering it to protect it from rain - I keep that with at least 3 or 4 wood (fuel) in it in case I am exploring and don't get back to base for a day or two.
Hope you can picture that better than I describe it lol.
Oh, and hens eat dandelions. We finally have a use for them :P

@@EdcognitoYou are absolutely welcome!! But beware, I seem to have started a KFC franchise at my base - frikkin chickens EVERYWHERE!!! 🤣🤣🤣

I don't get what's so special about some chickens that you have to fight the 5th Boss and pay 1500 to get one of them. Makes absolutely no sense.
