I made the mistake of posting this during the morning where I'm at in Belgium, which means that it was 4 AM on the East coast! So this will need some help with the algorithm. Please share, smash like, and let it play all the way through.

Remember some things are just not in your power to do anything about; knowing what is and what is not in your power is the beginning of a politics of the real.

Enjoyed the discussion of religion here. Food for thought: "Religion is the OTIUM of the people." (Bernard Stiegler)

We can think ,but not necessarily communicate this thought ,which hampers thought.

We need to avoid fetishizing the past and look for new ways to exit capitalism. Capitalism is always in changing so too must its opposition.

I’m an old’ish Norwegian, and do see the main holistic in these stances. When our region _was_ a form of social-democracy, my views and political stance was right to centre-right. Transpose 40+ years to today, I’d be “labelled” a near-revolutionary eco-socialist (with caveats as usual).
I hold that this change is external/objective more than internal/subjective - allowing the interactions and re-internalisation on my part.
Now, at least this period of change over time is understandable if viewed through an historical & material dialectic - no need to be “Marxist”, but a piece of Hegel is revealing. Actual life experience and a drizzle of metamodernism also helps, as current higher education seems not to.
Power has created/allowed all kinds of nastiness over time, in my lifetime those regimes were mainly “socialist” until I was 30. So, I don’t think it’s wrong to posit that when ‘state communism’ vaporised as a coincident opposite to “the west”, our actual (observed) political economy crowded the communal value set out.
What I’m saying, is that my deepest ontology never shifted much, but our ecology, economy (same, really), corporate liberty and individualist imperatives DID.
Could I posit that we now have a near global society, where collective values have become the negative, in the largest context - but that “the left” need to reform towards observed realism and its lacking semi-spiritual acceptance?
After all, we’re the same ‘idiots and geniuses’ as ever - but our “tools” and beliefs in them outpace us. That’s not holistically coherent, and makes us feel bad - and do bad…?

The right historically has been more critical of the social status quo. It has stronger interest in the workingclass. The left seems to merely wish to use them as for them victory is assured on the back of the status quo.Politics effects everyone and evey aspect of social life ,art sport economics entertainment ect..

Ok I'm going to have to find the interview you cited, but I would very strongly question that "urban" monoculture narrative, having myself grown up in a small town, I moved to the city to ESCAPE monoculture, and in fact I succeeded.
It was only after gentrification accelerated that I noticed anything like a monoculture starting to dominate, and from my point of view, far from being "urban" it is precisely a suburbanization of the city that is destroying the diversity that made the city interesting. I see it actually as a kind of colonization. All the new shops in the cities look the same, a given building could just as well be anywhere else. This is real--but far from being urban, it actually involves destroying everything about cities that made them interesting, instead turning them into extensions of suburban shopping malls.
I do think framing this as "urban" monoculture is de facto reactionary even if it is getting at real phenomena, just as it's reactionary to condescendingly refer to midwest areas as "flyover states."

This is a well articulated response, and I have to say I entirely agree. It's a pretty bad take playing into fairly shallow reactionary tropes they're expressing here rather.

Just because a majority have the opinion that theres only two sexes doesn’t make it correct.

    • @theory_underground
      @theory_underground  Před 2 měsíci +1

Sure. And wearing clothes in public might not be necessary either. Who knows? Not all givens need challenging though, especially when most people are happy to embrace a trans person as long as sex-specific spaces are allowed to exist. The movement being anti-TERF reductionists means it's incapable of prioritizing something that is pressing enough and obvious enough that it can succeed. The way the activism in democratic socialist spaces and Democrat spaces in the U.S. has developed makes it impossible to have a broad movement -because it makes examples of women who hold the majority position, instead of focusing on responses to shared universal lacks.
      P.S.
Just because a loud minority of the trans community is in lockstep with this FED shit doesn't mean the rest are, nor that they are correct.

"The fact they've decided that's what's most important, Nina's position on sex... the fact that they do this really gives away that they dont really care about these econmic objectives, they don't care about generating time and energy for people, they're just interested in feeling morally superior to others"
This could be a fair point if it weren't for the fact the current reactionary culture war being waged at the moment in the UK is actively focused on the opposition to the very existence of trans people and is seeing a gradual rolling back of access to gender affirmation treatments, healthcare as a whole and a steep rise in anti-trans hate crimes occurring. It's not just about moral superiority if you or your loved ones are facing a significant opposition to a free and safe life due to these shallow appeals to biological essentialism being used to justify the demonisation of a minority being and are being used to recruit those towards the far right. If you think that last statement seems extreme you just need to look at the supposedly center left, bland new labour figures who have recently been associating with far right activists who push racist and ant-reproductive rights based idioelogy at anti-trans rallies. It opens a space for them to become an acceptable voice with increasing power within society and facilitates the gradual shift towards fascism here.
The fact that he then goes on to take this absurdly arrogant tone and to claim he'll ignore anyone who takes that stance shows he has zero understanding of actually why people might take issue with Nina and entirely endermines everything he's trying to say as it just reveals him to be a massive hypocrite.
I decided he might just be being flippant and not thinking things through, so I continued watching but Nina then goes on to make claims about her statements being considered perfectly reasonable until five minutes ago as if that holds any water. It again shows an astounding ignorance towards the context in which "these opnions" are being used currently and has this bizarrely fallacious short sightedness to it. Imagining someone saying something like this about interracial relations after the abolition of segregation and expected to be taken seriously..
This is all just a load of hot air and is entirely lacking the level of rigorous thought I'd expect from this channel.
Ive been ploughing my way through your videos and have found them to be informative and consistently engagjng in the discussions had within them but this is not only lacking on that front, it's actually piss poor and makes me question why on earth these people are on here.
