that’s fascinating. I know yall got lots of cool species up there to catch that we don’t have in Texas. But anyway, flounder is famous in Texas. It’s a part of the “Texas Slam”. Inshore fishing on beaches and bays. Flounder, redfish (red drum), and speckled trout are the “famous” Texas slam! I’d have never guessed people don’t keep them up northeast. Very interesting!
Your videos are very helpful. Today I went on a head boat thinking I'd catch flounder in the Chesapeake. But I knew from your videos that it wasn't going to work when we got out. We drifted too fast and I didn't have heavy enough jigs.
Yesterday I was out in my kayak and I finally caught a keeper flounder, then another. Plus a redfish. Out of about 50-60 flounder this month only 2 have been legal.
Excellent on the good kayak fishing!
I was sure the tasty ugly fish that almost no one keeps was going to be sea robin 😂
Ling cod are delicious !!! Deep fry beer batter fish tacos !!! Awesome
Video skinner !
that's a badass boat. better hope whoever built it was a badass welder.
Ling definitely used to be keepers. In the 70s I’d go on whiting and ling trips on party boats out of sheepshead bay in Brooklyn.
Used to fish Jones Beach jetty back in the 80's, Stripers, Weakfish, Blackfish, Flounder, Bluefish, Never went home empty handed. Some times Very fish loaded.👍Walking on that Jetty was dangerous
Great tutorial on the currents and trolling motor usage at the beginning!
Rick aced it.
That was great. I loved the "eye calibration", and "helicopter " comments 😄
Great tips
Nice outing! Yeah those auto deploy and retract motors are awesome. My buddy runs one on his Ranger bass boat up in Champlain. Arthritis and a bad back made it mandatory for him...
I fish out of Barnegat inlet, Red Hake (Ling) have been abundant this year. they are pretty difficult to filet, but very tasty. have been doing them in a puttanesca *chefs kiss*.
Great fishing John Skinner
Great video as always.
Trolling motor makes all the difference with certain conditions
Hahaha. Those guys hate to see you throw fish back! When you faked like you were throwing that one back, I started laughing before I heard the, "No,no,no..."
Well done sir! Thank you for sharing!
The title had me thinking smooth dogfish. Smooth dogfish is delicious and tastes like cod. I caught one while porgy fishing about 5 years ago and decided to keep it. I cut the meat into bite size chunks and mate a Mediterranean-style saute with raw green beans, raw garlic, olive oil, and oregano.
He, He, Back When a Kid fishing for salmon in British Colunbia, Dog fish were a plage. No one wanted them. I caught a few Big ling cods, and sold then for 10Cts a lbs. Flounder, has very mild fishy taste. That's why they come with some kind of sauce at restaurants. I fish for flounder as well as most species. Fresh Bluefish is also very good. Barracuda(Down south) is just as tasty as Snapper.
Thats hilarious. Hope he buys your video. Great video as always thanks john.
Good video!
Oh boy oh boy great. You did good 😮🎉
Helicopter was trying to steal your limit
Ling are my favorite fish to eat!
So nice
I like your videos on the Blu J
I got a ling as well my last trip out john they are great fresh
can you do a updated video on how you tie your rigs please john
Used to get a lot of ling in the late 50s early 60s fishing on the Viking out of Princess Bay. Had to be careful cleaning not to break that green sack (gall bladder?) or the meat was spoiled. Good video John!
I'll keep that in mind when cutting!
Oh wow
Great job 🎉
Great video Mr skinner some real nice fluke you got on there . the Ling cod are great eating. We just don't get them that big in jersey this year has been a great year for fluke, always getting double limits almost every trip.
Who doesnt want a skinner package
I miss fishing my uncle passed away so i have not fished in 4 years i would like to come fishing with you
I like what you do
Yes those ling are good, albeit a little mushy. I bought gulp “freshwater” grubs by mistake, think there is any difference or just marketing?
No problem on the freshwater gulps. I'll never throw back another decent-sized ling!
Rick-Set !
Red hake
hey john do you ever use fluke belly for doormatt bait or is that a thing of the past?
They're a very good option to tip a bucktail or teaser, but I haven't used them in years. One problem is that they sometimes get fold over and catch the hook when jigging. If there's a good drift and the strip is always straight out, it's not much of a problem. With Gulp, I never have to think about this. The other problem is that technically in NY if we want to use them we have to have the carcasses from which they were cut onboard. If while cleaning fluke I save the waste strips from the edges and bring them out the next trip, I'm actually breaking the law unless I bring the fish racks with me, which I'm not going to do.
@JohnSkinnerFishing thanks for the reply and info that's good to know about the carcass. I've been enjoying fluking more and more every season now it's my main targeted species I love watching yoir videos and using your techniques. you have made alot of people alot better at fluking thanks
What reel are you using on the fluke rod? The link to J&H Tackle is broken
bit.ly/2RYSXw9, thanks for the heads-up.
❤❤❤❤
Is this in new York
Yes
@@richardkohut4309 nice i live in new York but i want to go fishing so bad my uncle passed away and we have no more boat so
@@lucianofmortniteking2478 No reason not to fish, on the north and south shore you can catch pretty much everything but keeper seabass off the beach or jettys.
@@gwanerka6 i can’t imagine going into college
I was seeing if i can fish with someone
Great informative videos. Because of you my interest returned to using bucktails, as I did when I was a kid. Based on a recent video where you sent a camera underwater, do you recommend glow in the dark bucktails to entice more bites, especially from Rockfish out here in California?
I see no harm in using them, and I think they could help in deep dark water.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thank you for the reply. Your expertise and outstanding fishing videos makes your words good as gold.
Great fishing John Skinner
