    Great episode Oliver , and breeding bird is not easy ! Specially if you’re pairing hybrids together . And speedy recovery to some of the birds as well . And hopefully you’ll get better results next time around .

    Lovely episode Oliver. Shame about the white Norwich/Bully paring. At least your greenies are doing well. Perhaps introduce the Norwich back to the bully and see if they mate ( distance makes the heart grow fonder and all that bol....). This can work with the mules and hybrids.

    Great video. Hybrids if it was easy everyone would be doing it. Keep going you will get there. Show people it can be done with patients.

    Great show lovely birds and good luck with them 👍 the net you have put on the front I saw a video with Andrew Robertson I think not 100% sure ,he had put green garden net 5x10 cm and sat 10 cm from the aviary to cats and birds off pray and it is hard 2 see when you stand 5 meters away
    Good luck with all the birds from Denmark

      Hi, I don’t currently have any goldfinches. They’re not something I’m as interested in breeding other than having the odd one to mule with

    Why are canaryies and goldfinch hard to breed

    • @OCAVIARY
      @OCAVIARY  Před 2 lety

      Canaries generally aren’t hard to breed, some breeds are harder than others like Norwich compared to new colours. The pairs can just be picky at times and not all in condition simultaneously.
      Goldfinches, the cocks can be problematic with smashing eggs and the hens picky with nest sites, I haven’t had much experience with goldfinches so a lot for me to learn with them

    TO BE HONEST PAL YOUR TAKEN ON TO MUCH, JUST STICK WITH ONE SPECIOUS OFF CANARY AND LEAVE THE NATIVE BIRD'S ALONE TILL YOU HAVE ENOUGH EXPERIENCE IN BREEDING BIRD'S, YOU'RE ONLY YOUNG AND MAYBE WITH MORE EXPERIENCED IN YEARS TO COME GIVE THE OTHER SPECIOUS A TRY BUT FOR NOW STICK WITH THE CANARIES FOR NOW 👍

      How is it to hard he can be doing what every else would be doing who are experienced. Olly knows his stuff so why would he leave it and try when he more experienced .I mean u only have to be told how to breed them

      SEE OLLIE IS TRYING FOR CANARIES, GREENIES, HAW FINCHES, REDPOLLS, BULLFINCHS, HYBRIDS, IAM ONLY SAYING HE'D BE BETTER OFF JUST STICKING TO ONE SPECIES,, I WAS LIKE HIM WHEN I WAS YOUNG AND I WAS LIKE HIM TRYING MANY OFF DIFFERENT BREEDS IN ONE SEASON BUT IT WAS LIKE A DOMINO EFFECT,,, NOTHING BUT PROBABLYS SO MY FATHER SAID STICK TO ONE SPECIES OF BIRD SO I DID,,, AND THAT WAS THE IRISH FANCY AND I NEVER LOOKED BACK,,, EVERY YR I DONE GREAT WITH THAT BREED,,, THEN I TOOK ON THE HYBRIDS,, ONLY,, GOLDIE X BULLIE AND DONE GREAT TO,,,TAKEN TO MUCH ON IN THE BREEDING SEASON LEADS TO DISASTER,,, IAM 52 NOW AND I'VE THE EXPERIENCE IN BREEDING MOST SPECIES,,THIS BREEDING SEASON IAM DOING THE LINNET MULES,,,ONLY NX YR IT BE THE GOLDIE X PIED GREENIE HYBRID,ONLY.
