I took away a nest when the chick had jumped and it made the hen feed. Good tip, so thank you for mentioning it.

Awh man, I’m so sorry to hear this sad news. I feel for you since I’m having a hard time in my breeding program this year too.
I think I’m out of luck with breeding my Red Cheeked Cordon Bleu and Red Billed African Firefinch because they’re aging. Just focusing on my Gold Breasted Waxbill now.
    Keep up the good work!

Glad to see that there are a least 2 chicks left. Maybe see if the male can be involved next round to help feed. If they do not fight this time that is of course. Thanks again for the video!

Bird breeding is a permant up and down, no year is the same even when we provide the same supplies.
I noticed that your birds have often quite ling claws, Olli, it´s about time to consider clipping them.

Pleased about the Redpolls, sad about the Hawfinches. I wondered why did the chicks die? Was it the drop from the nest caused injury, or they missed out on food. Another thought was they might gave got cold. The nest with everyone in it must be much warmer than outside. It maybe an idea to stick the fallen chicks in a much warmer environment or even an incubator. The mum may look on premature chicks jumping from the nest as a lost cause anyway.

Unfortunate about the hawfinches Oli. I wonder if the stopping feeding and then starting again may be a means of only the strong surviving, although probably not as she stopped for too long, or maybe in the wild dad may help??

Hello sir, I am from North Africa, my country is Algeria, and I have a male and a female goldfinch. They have been late in mating and have not laid eggs yet. I also suffer from a bird lice problem and the medicine is not working. Please, what can I do? This is all I have.

No experience of breeding them but do see in a lot of birds the male feeding the chicks while female starts again
Obviously you couldn’t keep them together, do wonder if some birds are just better in larger aviaries
