Yeah, you nailed it! Berklee College of Music grad from 2015! I’ve been touring and recording ever since. I’ve been fortunate to be able play with a lot of rock metal bands such as Threat Signal, Native Construct, Faceless, Satyr, Aviations, Abiotic, and Irist! Right now I’m on tour with Oni opening with Megadeth in Canada, so this will be a fun thing to show the band dudes! When I’m on not on tour I’m based in NYC where I do a lot of recording from studio and drink a lot of coffee. :)

James is the type of drummer that I refer to as an "everything drummer".... you think of it as it pertains to drumming... James can do it... and better than textbook! This was superb and literally perfection!

Yes, I like the way that drum kit sound and just the way he plays it’s insane. His hands are fast and I like the choices of the symbols. He puts a lot of characters into his drumming in the traces of the time. Signatures are pretty cool by the way thank you for putting this on your podcast.

I've never heard of Aviations before either but they've just gained a new fan. Would love to know how he learned this track and how he keeps it all in his head. Mind-blowing.
I write a lot of the music for this band so , a lot of the rhythms and figures get ingrained in my brain awhile before I even step on the kit to learn it. I also get a lot of great insight from my band mates about what parts would sound with X Y Z things added or removed, so it’s definitely a collaborative effort!

I've noticed you reference grunge a lot. I was listening to a mostly overlooked (but extremely good) Rush album from '93 called Counterparts. Ged's vocals aside, the opening track Animate would have been right at home on any of the big rock albums from that time. You should give it a listen, it's probably right up your alley.

@andrewrooneydrums One thing that I always notice, and I've never heard you really comment on how drummers like this guy and Alex Pelltier and Alex Rudinger make the music much more beautiful with their splash cymbals; I've never heard you make a comment on that, just one observation. no biggie. maybe it was something you wanted to keep to yourself to hold onto and not comment about out loud, i could see that. but they definitely do make the music more beautiful with the splashes lol
