Eng are a good limited over side.. ignoring the 23 ODI world cup. Maybe they can extend the limited over batting skill to longer periods on benign flat conditions (at home) or against toothless bowling. Here they did well for 20-40 over stretches with the bat at various stages of each test. This may look flashy/entertaining but will seldom win you a test match over 4-5 days. They also just completely ignore the bowling department. Its all about their batting. Eng bowlers looked effective in the early part of the series because of the nervous unsettled inexperienced Indian batters. Also, first test was a fluke innings by Pope with a lot of dropped catches. India just took it for granted and lost the first test very poorly (though they did come close to salvaging it).

And yes, more time on pitch, more frustrated opposition.
And more difficult batting for opposition when they come for batting; when they fielded for long time.
Make them sweat for every wicket even when you are not making much run.
10 runs from 70 balls in cricket is SOMETIMES better than 12 runs from 20 balls; because during that time another possible in form batsman with you might be making some more runs.

Correct. If it does end up 4-1, it’s a commendable effort given the depleted eleven India had to send out, not just in one or two tests, but in every test. Ok they still had home advantage and all that. Conversely, had England had the same problems and had to field a comparable eleven with like for like absentees, the excuses would already be flying around that the scoreline was no surprise but England missed a trick by not ramming home the advantage they had at various stages throughout this test series where they looked like they were on top or getting on top of a match situation.

This is sage advice from Nasser. The Bazball philosophy (and I cringe when saying that phrase, so often is it used as a catch-all for optimism over tactics) is not just to hit and hope. Bazball as I understand it is about finding confidence to play your game and not be frightened of form or your opposition. Players are given the freedom to fail, in order to find inner mechanics to improve and succeed. The problem is that too many of the players here believe that "taking pressure back to the opposition" means trying to hit world class bowlers out of the attack early. Some of the shots are absurd - you wouldn't play them in any format because of the risk. The 'counter attacking and counter-punching' of Bairstow is particularly irritating - what is wrong with batting for time? Wearing down bowlers, trying to use the time available? We bat so quickly, we lose so many wickets, that our bowlers never get a rest.

They just aren’t quite good enough against this Indian side there’s nothing wrong with that. There will be times that India go on tours and won’t be good enough to beat other top teams too it happens. England have 1 class batsman in Root, and the rest are block/bash merchants. Some days they came off but against any decent test team, they'll fail more often. But Bazz and Stokes allows them to fail without any repercussions, so they keep playing in a fashion that will not succeed at test level.

And I think that’s a consequence of the Blast, Hundred and other shorter format mentality that clutter England batsmen’s mindsets these days. Go back 10-15 years, they had the likes of Cook, Strauss, Bell, Trott, Pietersen who knew how to build an innings, bat long and bat big and grind the opposition bowlers into the dirt. You may see only one of those rarely now who qualifies for England. Root is a dying breed and perhaps the last of his kind.

In the third test Stokes made Wood bowl bouncers at exactly the time that it would have reversed. In *both* innings! The whole series he's decided to bat off the back foot....and then all of english cricket seems to join hands to say the ball kept low, when he should just have been forward.
All right, so he might be inspirational, but he's not the sharpest.
I know english fans and commentators will never bring it up. But the skipper has to be held accountable for some very daft cricket

But given that the bulk of those fixtures are crammed into April, early May and late September, there seems to be less importance placed on that domestic first class format. The best of the English summer conditions are reserved for a diet of Blast or Hundred cricket. Young aspiring English test cricketers ain’t gonna develop their longer form techniques in those shorter formats that take up the bulk of the domestic season.

I don’t think Bazball is any reason to blame for England’s. When you look at the score line and see 4-1, it looks like India dominated. Meanwhile India was scared for more than 3/4 of the series. India did have quite a lot of inexperienced batsmen but all the bowlers were experienced bowlers. There were quite a lot of moments where India were struggling. India is one of the toughest place for any visiting sides and they played well in 4 of the 5 tests. The two main issues they had multiple batting collapses and failed to bowl out Indian lower order batsmen.
