I am doing this job today and came here for education and to, hopefully, up my comfort level. I am replacing a HVAC recirculate door actuator. These parts really needs to be made just a little better. I have now replaced all 3 actuators due to failures on a 2015. This is a massive job for this buried actuator. Thank-you for sharing this Ford Boss.
Thanks for the video. Just out of curiosity, do you recall what is under the extreme left and right top sides to the left and right of the top two panels you remove to get to the top mounting bolts? I am considering installing some 4" midrange drivers at these locations and was curious what kind of depth is available for speakers there if I cut thru. I saw the area in the video under the new dash on the right side, appeared to just have some supporting ribs. The speakers have about 1.75" mounting depth. Also mine is a 2018 Raptor and any insight would be helpful.
Got a terrible rattle in dash after getting dash replaced for a second time. The 13mm bolt beneath the plastic piece by the dash defroster had come loose. It backed out at least 1/8 inch. This rattle drove me nuts for about 6 months.
Just wanted to say thanks for this video. After being able to see the underside of the dash (thanks to this video) I was motivated to fix the warp. Some 3m 06396 adhesion promoter and "extreme" acrylic double-sided tape later, and my warp is gone. I secured the bottom of the dash panel to the AC duct underneath. 3m says this adhesion promoter + double sided tape is good for 80lbs. time will tell.
Sir, Thank you for the video is very detailing the procedure. I have problem with the dash F150 2018 in the area of the front of the speaker near to the light sensor the dash pop up I was checking and the system said a TSP .what you suggest try to fix with something over the dash or drop off in the dealership I do not want dash lose sound in my truck
I’ve got a 2020 that I’m swapping a Lariat dash into after my 3rd XLT one already warping. Is there a source you can recommend for the best detailed instructions on this but with a center console shifter?
Center console shifter is pretty easy actually but I don't have anything up on the channel yet so you're going to have to wait until I get off vacation
wow that a huge job, nice work boss. I have a 2019 f350 Limited, On my driver side the dash, the leather panel is bubbling, Can that leather trim panel be replaced or does the dash need to be swapped out?
I was contemplating swapping a lariat dash into my 22 XLT SD but I'm not so sure anymore. After seeing the lack of reinforcement in the area that warps, I think I could save a pile of money by reinforcing that area. Some sand paper, a tube of plastic epoxy and some 3d printed structural reinforcement (or sheet metal strips) may be all that's needed. I'd prefer to keep the XLT dash, long term the plastic dash will last longer than the vinyl when exposed to the sun I suspect.
Better yet. I suspect some small diameter, high carbon steel, tubes running through and perpendicular to the plastic ribs then the whole ribbed area coated with plastic epoxy would fix the warp and not cause any interference issues.
Are you talking about how do I put a new dash Skin on everything The dash has to be removed and everything has to be disassembled and then transferred over to the new skin
@@philv930 I just got mine done at the ford dealership; it is not perfect but better than befor .. 2 days and they gave me my truck back .. this is the first day so far so good .. covered by the warranty. FORD 2020 XLT
My 2020 F150 has this problem. However I am seriously considering just trading the truck for a different one. I did not pay $60,000 for my truck to be basically stripped down to the frame and then put back together again just to risk something not being done correct the first time. This could turn into an absolute nightmare and I don’t know if I’m willing to take the chance. What do you recommend I should do? I do not have faith in the dealerships near me.
It's a little bit of a time-consuming repair but honestly I don't see much difference between the new one going on and the one that's on the truck, it doesn't look like they have changed anything.
I have the same issues only worse with my 2021 F250, why hasn’t ford addressed the issues and engineer the dash with a better material by now. I’m sure my replacement will open up a huge can of worms.
THAT'S A LOT OF SCREWS AND BOLTS TO KEEP TRACK OF WHEN REMOVING. Now putting it back together do you put the screws and bolts in different places in your work area to figure what part of the dash it's from? or label them? or just put them all in one pile?? To tell you the truth if I put it back together. It would be done them I turn around and see 8 to 13 more bolts on the floor or inside the car. I say to myself Holy Cow Batman where do these go...
I've done these dashes so much I already know where everything goes so I don't have to do that anymore The two black impact rated bolts go to the airbag All the copper ones go around the outside where you are mounting plastic to plastic because they are to cut new threads in a plastic cover The black ones are for the exterior mounting surface where plastic goes into metal After you've done a few of them you already know where everything goes but initially I did do a video to remember everything
@@rowenrg I think you could with no problem but I cannot guarantee that I don't know enough about the brand new ones I typically don't get involved with stuff like that so I would be lying if I said you can because I'm not sure
If you're doing just the skin and you're not getting the skeleton you have to actually pull the dash out for all the screws off the back of it take the skin off and reuse the ribbing that's behind it
If you're transferring the plastic and everything sure you can do it that way but that's not what a skin transfer is and that's what I did in this video
This is horrible, saw a awesome F-150 XLT. Only 24,000 miles and it had a warped dash that was noticeable immediately. This is kept me from buying and should of never happened or should of been caught during inspection

How did you get the new skin over the steering wheel? Or did you remove it?

How nervous should owners be to get this done? Are there any problems afterwards? Are we just asking for more problems?
completely safe to have it replaced, i would do it especially if it bothers you

If your truck is out of warranty I wouldn’t do this. I would just live with it. Especially if it’s a used truck.
