  • Rebuilding A Wrecked 2017 Ford F-250 - Part 11 - passenger airbag and dash replacement video is the eleventh in the series. The truck was purchased at a salvage auction site unseen and badly damaged. This video describes the process of Replacing the passenger airbag, and because it is an XLT, replacing the entire dash in a Ford F250. In this video I also talk briefly about the dual stage seatbelt that are part of the restraint system.

    Your thoughts on cleaning the evaporator / cooling coil on a 2017 F-250 XL Super Duty? Do you think its only accessible by taking the entire dash off as you did here or do you think its possible to clean it by simply taking the glove box and cabin air filter out? The reason I ask: my blower can just barley move air and it smells horrible. Pretty sure I need to clean it but not sure I have the gumption to take the entire dash off. Goodness. Your thoughts would be incredibly helpful.

    2019 XLT same problem, not letting dealer touch it, it's been hell getting them to do any warranty work in the last two years and it always takes a LOT longer than they promise when they do. I found the best solution will be a new Toyota truck next.

    I’m looking for some help . I have a 2020 f 450 with a dead mouse under the dash pad near the passenger air bag is there any access to look at the passenger air bag without removing the entire dash . I found the nest in the cabin filter but I can still smell something in there

      Well first off, that sucks especially on a newer truck! If you take out the glove compartment and the secondary glove compartment just above it (the one with super duty on it), you may have enough room to see and maybe get a shop-vac in there. For the secondary glove compartment (just the part that has the key to turn off the airbag, not the door) I believe there is just two screws across the top and then two clips that hold the left and the right. Otherwise, It is a bit more work but you could just take out the 7 is bolts and tilt the whole dash out of the way. To tilt it out, it really isn't too bad of a job. Good luck!

    Love this video! I have a question I have a 2019 Ford ecosport and both front knee airbags deployed. I sent the module and seatbelts to get replaced.I bought the airbags from a junkyard and installed everything back. The airbag light is still on and my innova 5410 can’t even connect to the car. The fordpass app gave an alert that the RCM has detected a fault with the driver knee airbag circuit. Is there anything that I could do to clear this? Thanks please let me know

    • @extensivediy
      @extensivediy  Před 3 lety

      Sorry I didn't see your comment earlier but in the Fords, the only way to clear the airbag light is for all systems to be healthy. If the only fault you are seeing is with that drivers side circuit I would say there is a problem with either the drivers side airbag you got or the connector itself. I am not sure what sensor controls the knee airbag but that could possibly be at fault as well but usually unless they are damaged, they don't generally need to be replaced.

      @@extensivediy thanks how could I know if it’s the airbag or the connection that is bad? Is there some tests I can do? Thanks. I just need to get this light to turn off before I can take it to inspection. Also what scanner could I buy that can tell me the codes. I have one but it doesn’t read a 2019 Ford ecosport so what scanner that is the cheapest possible can read these codes

    I need help. My 2017 f250 sd won't start. I know it fuel because I shot a little start fluid in the intake and it fired. So I think the RCM controls fuel shut off and air bags. In my case both side curtains and both seat bags deployed. I have removed the module but don't know how or where to get it fixed. Can you help?
    Also I plan to replace the curtains, but not sure about the seats. Did you replace yours?

    • @extensivediy
      @extensivediy  Před 2 lety

      Hi Ron, my memory is fading but I am almost 100% sure that the first time I fired up my truck after I was repairing it, the RCM was still out and hadn't been sent off to be repaired. I don't think that controls fuel even though it would make sense that it should. I sent my RCM to safety restore and it worked out fine but I didn't have the best customer service and would try myairbags next time. The price ended up being the same despite safety restore saying they were cheaper. They ended up charging me extra once it was at their shop. I did replace the seat airbag. I had a whole other section where I replaced the airbag and installed katzkin leather and heat in the seats but I was wearing the camera on my head an the footage was garbage so it want used. Anyway, the center of the back section opens once you get it unhooked from the bottom. I believe there was just 2 nuts and the wire and the airbag comes out the side of the seat. Then, of course, you will need to get the side panel either sewn or replaced.

    i just recently bought a salvage title 17 f250 and there are certain things not working like cruise control hill park asisst no ac fan kicks on but no cond noise 4x4 didnt work when first purchased and mechanic found that the 4x4 harness was not connected...i check all fuses they seem good is there a change there could be other harnesses behind the dash that were not connected or damaged during the repair...any info would be a great help before i have to drop $1000s on mechanic fees thanx

      I have been out of the country on business and just getting back to these. As far as I can recall, the only plugs for the dash harnesses are in the passenger foot compartment. 3-4 are there if memory serves. I am curious if you found anything as it almost sounds module related instead of harness.

    Where was your airbag control module? I’m rebuilding a truck like yours and everything is all put back together but the truck won’t crank. Motor is good, starters good, relays fuses. Wondering if me not unplugging the airbag module is keeping it from running

    • @extensivediy
      @extensivediy  Před 2 lety +1

      The Airbag control module is between the driver seats in the front on the floor under the center console of center seat if you have one. It shouldnt stop it from running. I had mine running whit it was out getting reprogrammed.

      @@extensivediy Thanks for the reply. Turns out the truck had a ignition interlock system and they just removed it without reconnecting the signal wire mid harness. Was splitting cases tracing wires and found it. All is good now

    had my warped dash replaced at the dealer. They must've assembled it on the ground. noticed a few scratches on the new dash. Its also making a rattle on the passenger side. any suggestions on what might rattle in that area?

    • @extensivediy
      @extensivediy  Před 3 lety

      Unfortunately, as you can see in the video, there is a ton of stuff that it could be in that area. If the dealer did the work, any chance you can take it back for rework for that issue? I would imagine they would guarantee their work as well.

      Same thing happened to me. Dealer removed the dash and now I have rattles and squeaks. I brought it back twice and they couldn't fix them. Got fed up and decided to fix it myself. I bought antisqueak tape off of ebay. My noises were more center of the dash. I pulled the top,center tray and touchscreen panel. Found that the unused dash speaker connector(I have an STX) was just dangling and resting on the ac ducting. That was one rattle. The others were the radio antenna wire was rubbing.Taped both down. Also noticed the plug on the passenger ac duct was loose and made a noise when I moved it. Taped it down also . When I put the panels on I used the antisqueak tape on all the clips, around all the clip openings and anywhere there was plastic to plastic contact. Took about 45 minutes. Now my truck is rattle and squeak free. Like its already been said, there is a lot that can rattle especially if you had an incompetent mechanic like I did. I also found a missing bolt on the audio module and the bolts holding down the center console very loose with one broken off because it was cross threaded.

      @@extensivediy Took it to the dealer. they put some felt tape on one of the upper trim parts. didn't work. did notice that the clips were broken off. Shoved a bunch of foam in between the metal and dash plastics. sort of did the trick. i have to hit certain potholes to hear the rattle. dealer said it will likely need another dash 2 years from now. According to them, the new dash skin looked identical on the inside/ I hope i can get the lariat one on the next install.

    Was the air bag end cover something you could replace without removing the whole dash

    • @extensivediy
      @extensivediy  Před rokem

      In the Lariat an above you can tilt the dash forward enough to get behind it and replace the cover. In the XL and XLT, it looks like you can but there is no cover. It is integrated in the dash and you must replace the entire dash like in the video.

      Sorry I couldn't get back sooner. My wife and I are out of the country right now. The one I purchased is HC3Z-25044F58-AA. I believe that is for the lariat and above and is black leather. The XLT requires the entire dashboard but if it is for the lariat and above it is called an "end panel"
