  • In Chapter 6, I borrow a truck and a trailer and head up to North Georgia to pick up more airplane parts while singing "I'll Be Home for Christmas" on the way back. Here's a summary of the trip and my findings that will help contribute to our Bellanca Cruisair project.

Brady, you guys made a great investment in the second airplane. I’m amazed at the good shape the sheet metal is in. Also, there’s been so many 14-13’s that have been scrapped because of the wood wings as well as their general complexity- not many folks out there have the desire to restore them and the skills to make it financially viable to see it through. Thanks for letting us look over your shoulder.

What's new? This is a beautiful bird and needs to fly!

Tip from experience: If it uses a torque tube for the trim, make a way to lube it without disassembling the plane.

Amazing project! That's gotta be an endless amount of hours and energy flowing into restoring an aircraft. Love your storytelling! Thank you and good luck!

Thanks so much Daniel! Truly endless ... lol. Hoping there will be an end to restoring the plane but not to my storytelling! Happy you're on board.

Awesome Volmer vj22. I tried to buy a Volmer project with a c125 engine in tractor configuration years ago. They are a really cool homebuilt airplane.

That looks a lot like a Volmer and I love the Volmer, but it's Thurston Teal.

I found an oil cooler (Fedders) and an Aeromatic prop ... well actually I found 2 of those with 8 bolt F200 hub.

Hahaha… welcome to club… I’ve been doing the same thing.. I now have Four and part of two others. I’ve pretty much resigned myself to this going be a retirement project. I can’t wait for the big Bellanca 14-13 fly in… anywhere in the future. Good luck and stay with it , a little at a time.

@@BradySkyemy first airplane was a J-3 Cub. We had to recover it to fly it. What a great learning experience!

Really try to get an Aeromatic prop. They make a big difference in performance. As I recall you can set three points, static RPM, climb/liftoff full throttle redline and full throttle cruise RPM at about 7 K ft. They all interact so a lot of adjusting is required. I rode in my friends 150 HP years ago with 4 men and about 1/2 fuel and it does fine. 150 mph TAS at 8k ft is attainable.

I would not waste a dime on an Aeromatic Prop. I have flown with another Cruisair and my plane was faster with a fixed pitch prop.

  • @vh2q

could also use an aeromatic prop or even just the F200 hub ..
