About Sanford And Son: The highest-rated half-hour series in NBC history at the time, Sanford and Son stars Redd Foxx as the cantankerous sexagenarian Fred Sanford and Demond Wilson as his son Lamont, also his business partner in the family junk-dealing business. To prevent his son from leaving home, and bent on having things his own way in general, Fred often calls upon such ruses as fake heart attacks or phony back ailments. Lamont usually sees through these subterfuges, but because he loves his father, he lets him think he's getting his way.

I agree. Sadly, they both were underrated. Although they enjoyed moderate success, they earned the networks millions of dollars and got pennies in return. I love this show along with " Thats my mama"

Hollywood can be a Scam. The 3 Stooges, & plenty of other actors were paid virtually nothing. Devo made nothing. The record company dangled them along. Mark Mothersbaugh finally made some money doing film music.
She was a perfect comedian
This show went off the air 45 year ago when I was 7. I’m 52, still watching it, and laughing like I did years sbd years ago.

I was 4 years old when the show ended & came out the same year I was born in 1972. Fred and Esther 😂😂😂😂😂😂. Clean Comedy back in the day.. My birthday is late in 1972. . Sandford & Son ending in March 25 1977.
Aunt Esther says she's never had a drink of alcohol before, but yet she knows cheap liquor when she tastes it, 😀😄😅🤣. She was always calling her brother in-law cheap...

This was the golden age of sitcoms. No hidden woke propaganda, no political correctness. Just full blown comedy. I can watch this all day long. Was hilarious when it first was aired and twice as hilarious now. Timeless!

It's just amazing that on the show they hated each other but in real life they were the best of friends. Truly the best. If wasn't for them as well as George and Florence there would be no Martin and Pam from Martin as well as Al Bundy and Marcy. They perfect the Sitcom Arch nemesis who ranked each other.

I used to watch Aunt Esther back in the ‘70s and think that LaWanda Page had to be just like her in real life because she played the character so perfectly. Decades later I found out she was very different in her real life stage act!
And you can see what a handsome woman she was- they played that down for Esther.
I just love myself some Fred Sanford, Good Time, The Jeffersons All those black sitcoms.
And even through it's not A black sitcom-The golden girls is great.

I was very glad that Redd Fox had LaWanda Page on the show and I think it was great that they were actually best friends and they went to school together and the chemistry that they had so good and may they both Rest In Peace.
Her appearances were always a highlight on this show. She also ripped everybody a new one when she'd be featured on the dais for those Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts. She'd take on Milton Berle, Don Rickles, and especially Dean himself. Great timing and delivery.
Great comedy that barely exists anymore.
