ABOUT SANFORD AND SON:
The highest-rated half-hour series in NBC history at the time, Sanford and Son stars Redd Foxx as the cantankerous sexagenarian Fred Sanford and Demond Wilson as his son Lamont, also his business partner in the family junk-dealing business. To prevent his son from leaving home, and bent on having things his own way in general, Fred often calls upon such ruses as fake heart attacks or phony back ailments. Lamont usually sees through these subterfuges, but because he loves his father, he lets him think he's getting his way.

Bubba: "And Junior sure looked natural laying there."
Fred: How he look natural, he ain't raise up and say nothin' bout my $9.47 cents!!"
Folks would fight today over $9.47 (and less). Just imagine how much missing that hurt your pockets back in the early 70's.
$ 9.47 cents back in the 70's would be about $50.00 today...

They had free reign in the contract. They just talk trash. Based on what they know. Remember they are comedians.

I think most of the insults between Esther and Fred were improvised. There so many times when Esther had to keep from laughing.

Aunt Esther and Fred Sandford had me weak 😄
She said " You all should be ashamed how can you drink right after a funeral? and Fred talking about

I agree. I watch it every night...
You said it,Fred, aunt Esther,Bubba,Grady and all there real life childhood friends. They were the best.
They should have made more shows with Leroy,Bubba,Skilet & Grady. These episodes are hilarious!
Agree with you . They could have had their own show !
@@stedye Grady did...it flopped
@@d820m you are absolutely correct . It was just the unique chemistry of all the Sanford and Son characters that made it a hit long term .
Skillet and Redd Foxx had a falling out so that’s why they (Leroy and Skillet were a package) didn’t continue throughout the series.
Esther: I have to go to a funeral
Lamont: A funeral? You just left one.

Fred is too funny - look how Leroy, Skillet and Bubba are bent over in laughter, they are cracking up for real and poor Esther, she held her own but Fred kept coming with joke after joke!
They had a mutual chemistry because there were friends in real life
They were all on the Chitlen Circiut yrs ago. They all came in the comedy game at the same time. Lifetime friends
"I feel the loss more than any of you....he died owing me $9.47!!"
Fred didn't have no shame, all he cared about was his 9 dollars and 47 cents. Lol 🤣
I don't know why he cared about a measly amount of money like that. Especially 47 cents.
@@benjaminlucas1635 9 dollars and 47 cents it was, it was wrote in the script mainly for comedy purposes. And it was funny as always. 🤣
@@benjaminlucas1635 Because back then it was almost what $50.00 bucks is today and that was not a small amount of money. My mother made less than five hundred bucks a month back then and even with a mortgage, car payment, utilities, and other bills she had money left over every month. Heck, you could take a five-dollar bill back then and fill up your car, get a carton of cigarettes, and have money left over for snacks lol.
@@pjpj3416 I feel like Fred I know dead people who owe me money too
In the show Fred and Ester hated each other, but in reality they were good friends, and when show executives threatened to kick her off the show Redd Foxx told them that if she goes I go and there won’t be any show.
These kind of Tv shows just don't exist anymore
Redd & LaWanda had known each other since grade school in St. Louis, each got into stand-up comedy, & they worked along side each other touring on the "Chitlin' Circuit" for many years. On the show she was a holy-roller. But on stage, LaWanda's routines were every bit as raunchy as Redd's were, & sometimes even more. There's a few here on the Tube, if you want to sample her comedy work.
I read about that... always some sort of contract dispute. Redd and LaWanda Page go way back. Seemed like he really loved their chemistry and always looked after her.
If you look closely, they really didn't hate each other on the show either.
@@mkind7765 There's a video here on yt of her being interviewed in 1975 by Bobbie Wygant where she talks about this period and how she was lacking confidence in her ability to do the role, but Redd personally worked with her to build her confidence. czcams.com/video/Qkl4X8qEyNs/video.html
I love it when they get all dressed up...looking crazy as hell & do WHAM🤣🤣
this is probably the funniest 5 min of Sanford & Son
The funniest sitcom on TV today in 2022, Hollywood cannot make anything this funny anymore
Esther: " The lord put him here to lay cement , and when his cement laying days was over, he called him home!! "

Fred: "The Lord could've gave him a break, live to let him collect some of that Social Security money!"

Aunt Esther was the greatest. Loved her portrayal!!

Notice how she was sitting. She was very poised & feminine but could also go very blue aka NSFW. U can also see her feminine grace in 'The Greatest Show In Watts' ep. when she does the fire goddess routine. Ms. Page had great 'range' potential.✌
