I remember being a child and teenager watching him. I had the biggest crush on him. He, Redd, and Lawanda Page are still my favorites. I'm still watching Sanford and Son now( in my 50's). Mr. Wilson is just as handsome now as he was back then. Redd was very seasoned. He and LaWanda were standup comedians before the show was even started. People don't want to hear it but he's right. It's like taking care of a family member who has messed up their money. Why in the world would you want to give them some of yours to mess it up too. They aren't able to help you. They'll move on to the next fool that will give them some. It doesn't make sense. It's unfortunate but true. Valdosta, don't live too far from there. He's true about that too. My dad died at home, just seen him an hour before. He wasn't being cruel it's going to happen no matter where you are. You just have sympathy and empathy. I'm a nurse. It happens on the toilet. I'm sure people didn't want it to happen that way but it does. This interviewer was Not Ready 😮😢. Didn't mean to write a book but you are so right. He still mean a lot to us.😘. A part of Americana. Not just Blacks but All!. We all at some time had these family situations. No matter who you are.

I had seen most of his movies when I was a child and he was very similar to his characters, as a child "star" still fiesty, tell it like it is and all that.

Great one-sided interview. Demond breaking down his experiences from his perspective was pure education. Unfortunately, the interviewer didn't even seem to read dude's Wikipedia entry before he scheduled this interview & dropped the ball on numerous occasions. I learned long ago that the first part of conducting a good interview was to *listen* to what the other person was saying. Demond kept having to say "I just told you that" or "didn't you hear what I just said?". I'm positive that if he felt it was a two-sided conversation, that it would not have gone the way it did in terms of him being defensive. Either way, a lot could be gained from his insight in the business, so I am thankful you conducted this interview.

Yep, I was born in the 60's and raised in the 70's, and just a couple years back I got the thrill of my life getting my picture taken sitting in the actual Sanford and Son pickup truck, it's in the exact condition it was in when the show was filmed and the dash and visors are signed by all the surviving cast members including Demond and Nathaniel Taylor, the actor who played Lamont's shifty buddy Rollo and who coincidentally died the night before me and my buddy went to see the truck.
The place that has it deals in high end collector cars like you see on Barrett-Jackson, they bought it as a conversation piece and because like me they're the same age and grew up watching Sanford and Son in the 70's and when they found out the previous owner had put it up for sale couldn't resist getting it.
They have cast reunions at the place and were scheduled to have another one just two weeks later, the one owner invited me to come and told me he'd introduce me to Demond and everyone else which would have been an even bigger thrill but unfortunately after living in northeast Ohio for 11 years that was the weekend I was scheduled to move back to southwestern Pa where I'm originally from and just couldn't cancel all the arrangements I'd made, yea it sure would have been something getting my picture taken again in the truck with him in it to, wow what a missed opportunity.
If anyone's interested the trucks at a place in the Cleveland area called Blueline Classics in North Royalton OH, you can check it out on their website Bluelineclassics.com, they even sell real cool t-shirts that have the iconic Sanford and Son logo from the driver's side door of the truck on the front of them.
Yep, getting my picture taken sitting in that truck was the thrill of my life, and it's a picture I'm always shamelessly showing off to people.

But this interviewer is 35 years old!! He's not old, but he's not a youth lol. Which makes his handling of this interview even more ridiculous.

How can you not come away with love and respect for Mr. Wilson. I think the interview was just too young to really be able to interview him. You need someone in their 50s who can relate to the early 70s with memory and understand the transition of times through Decades. I’m 58. I would’ve been a great interviewer for him

I agree! Gen X could have done a better interview cold, using general knowledge. The fact that the interviewer was so ill prepared makes me question his abilities as a "journalist".

I enjoyed Mr Wilson's interview...he speaks with passion, intelligence and keeps it real. He's not a "go along to get along" type of guy. Very refreshing. A lot of younger people can learn from the wisdom and experience of the older generation.. Kudos

My dad fought in VietNam and he described his homecoming, it was the exactly as Mr. Wilson described. My dad never looked at this country the same after that. His advice to us was..just do the best you can in this life and make sure you Think of yourself first.

They were called baby killers by the same groups of people that advocate abortion. Weird, huh?

Sanford and Sons was one of my favorite shows. He is a legend in sit com. When I hear how African American men and women were treated in Hollywood, it blows my mind. Most of my favorite TV shows as a child were mostly African American comedies. sit coms. Good times, the Jeffersons. Thank you for sharing the interview.

"It's a poor rat that only has one hole". My grandmother used to say this all the time. God bless Mr.Wilson for telling his story. Lots of gems here. Rest in peace, Mr.Foxx.

I’m 68 years old. Remember how horribly Vietnam veterans were treated. I went to college with them. It broke my heart knowing them and hearing the horror they went through in Nam.
Mr. Wilson is so right about the feminist movement! Never was one, never wanted to be one. The movement is evil. It took away women’s femininity, not gave them rights. Took away men’s dignity, emasculated men. Still does. I appreciate a strong masculine man. I respect men. I let my husband be a man. He respects me as a woman. Feminism Broke up the family home. Think about it. There I finally said it! LOL. Now I feel better.
