    It's good that some parts of Indiana can work here in Mooresville we've gotten rain the last almost four days in a row and we had over an inch of rain before that

    never walk up on a leaking tanker of anhydrous ammonia like I did..it will take your breath away...it's heavyer than air..and was like walking into a invisable wall..I got away by running for my life..there was no sign because it was sitting out in the middle of a 180 acre field next to the one I was working in.

    Will the planter put seeds in the exact spot the nitrogen was knifed in or to one side or the other?

    • @farmhandmike
      @farmhandmike  Před 5 lety +1

      No I don't believe that is the plan. The corn roots will get to the nitrogen.

    Anhydrous when talking, NH3 when texting. I'm 30 miles south of your cousin in KS/CO.

      Of course I did. I was here around supper time.

    They are applying ammonia. Yes it is the anhydrous type but they could also apply the aqua type (28%).

    I just call it anhydrous. I saw 2 fields of corn planted today. I live north of Missouri Valley, Iowa about 20 miles.

      Saw a guy planting corn today and a mile down the road a guy was harvesting last years corn crop. Think they were delivering it to the ethanol across the road. Have a neighbor with beans in the field yet too.

    I've heard it called everything in Ohio, but I usually say we shot anhydrous.

    Do those applicators require a lot of horsepower?

    • @phillydip5609
      @phillydip5609 Před 5 lety +1

      most applicators don't because they are only running knives in the ground but this particular one is pretty big so the RT is probably necessary

    • @smithz7147
      @smithz7147 Před 5 lety

      Around 26 horsepower per knife. That tool bar probably has 25 knifes

    I've never seen or heard of anyone doing that here in the UK.

    • @william2498
      @william2498 Před 5 lety

      Mark Skinner it’s really for larger farms, and can be dangerous to handle if you’re not careful. It really is only used by the best of the best farmers who can follow strict protocol in the US Primarily. Haven’t really seen it used a lot outside of North America regularly.

    Lots of labor and material cost even before you plant and harvest .

    • @farmhandmike
      @farmhandmike  Před 5 lety +1

      Nitrogen for the corn that will be planted here soon.

    I bet those inmates looking out and seeing all that anhydrous ammonia rolling back and forth felt very frustrated thinking back on some of their meth manufacturing exploits. Is ammonia theft still an issue?

    • @william2498
      @william2498 Před 5 lety +1

      Joe Kersey I would say yes, we keep it under close watch 24/7 and the pump itself is locked, and the gate around it on my farm has barbed wire on top and is also locked.
