I'm creating a Pokemon Challenge ROM Hack and showing you guys the process. I'm mostly using Hex Maniac Advance, and all in one binary ROM hacking tool that replaces all the old school hacking programs we've had for the last two decades.
FAQ:
● What kind of Pokemon ROM Hack are you making?
I'm making a Pokemon challenge ROM hack called Craditopia, which will be based on an island that is one big city where strong trainers/champions from all regions come together with new Pokemon to test their skills. The island is full of many clubs (one for each type) where you can catch Pokemon of that type. All battles will be double battles like in Pokemon Colosseum and XD. More story development will come!
● Why are you using ancient binary hacking when decomp is available? (ex: pokefirered)
Great question, I really just don't have the skills to learn decomp. I've tried and I'm not interested in watching 100 30 minute tutorials to make what I want. My ROM hack is based on Pokemon Radical Red's ROM by Soupercell, which has all Pokemon up to gen 9, fairy types, physical/special split, etc., so I can binary hack the rest much easier. Hex Maniac Advance recognizes most of Radical Red's data unlike all the other decomp hacks I've tried.
● How can I help make Craditopia?
It's gonna be a long process and as for now I'll be making the game by myself. I'm very knowledgeable in mapping and scripting but I can use some help for things like graphics (overworld sprites, tilesets, trainer sprites). I'll possibly open up a Discord or something in the future where we can work on the game together.
● Where's the download link?
NO DOWNLOAD YET. I just started making the ROM hack and won't release until some kind of playable version is ready. I'll probably do some kinda test run in the future with a small group of subscribers for testing purposes.

It's nice to see a challenge hack that actually creates a new area/region for the player rather than just reusing the FRLG/Emerald map for the 1000th hack in a row. Good luck with the project!
- Make a seemingly innocent looking house.
- Upon entering, exit disappears.
- Room is dark, but a single light focuses on a Garchomp now starting Cynthia's theme in a piano.
- You approach towards it a few tiles, then a textbox "You feel your sins crawling behind your back."
- Cynthia drops from above (falling through a hole animation) exactly in the tile your back is facing.
- Cynthia: (Insert random funny quotes.)
- Battle commences.
- If you win, exit returns.
- Restart.
I never knew we could essentially create our own pokemon games! This seems like it gonna be a fun project. Can't wait to see what you come up with. (Now if only I can figure out how to run hexmaniac)

Hey man. Really amazing videos amd shorts you have here, got me really interested. Can you make a detailed tutorial on hex maniac advance and basic scripting as there arent many here on yt. Do consider, and keep up the good work!

Ik you said no HMs but maybe replace hms with items so you dont have to do all of them but can still use their features for puzzles of some sort

Okay, here's my biggest question...
Can Hex Maniac give any rom a built-in Randomizer feature, like Exceeded, Crest & RadRed?
I don’t think it’s possible. That kind of stuff is done in decomp hacking
