- In episode 06 of Signal Colors, I take a look a the awesome Demedash T-120 v2 (Standard Model) VHS style tape delay. The T-120 is just a really cool pedal that works on so many levels. I'm likely keeping this one around for a very long time.
In case you want more info about or would like to reproduce any of these settings, the reference I used is straight from the T-120 v2 manual here: mcusercontent.com/f63ce889863...
I created Signal Colors because I wanted to create the kind of overview, demo, and review videos I like to see on CZcams but can never find enough of - a straightforward look at pedals/effects with electronic music gear as the priority. Come back to see a new episode every 2 weeks and please leave a comment if you feel like being part of the conversation. I welcome questions, I enjoy the discussion, and I'd really appreciate any constructive feedback you could give me. I'd like to make this as helpful as I can for as many people as possible. Thanks for checking it out!

lets just take some time to admire how nice it looks!
It really looks awesome haha, it should just be about the sound but it’s hard to deny! :)
I am really diggin' your demos, dude. thanks much fu forr these!!
Hey thanks for the comment/compliment! 🙌 Glad you like em! This is episode 6 and I think I’m up to something like 33 full episodes so far, been a long journey haha :) hopefully helping some folks learn more about these things!
Great demo : ) I got the v1 but together with a Shallow Water it is sort of "same same but different" as v2. Bought it as I'm a sucker for the broken sadness of tape emulations, but I find myself using it more sparingly as an effect that I spice things up with by turning the intensity knob fast high and dow again every now and then and stuff like that, so not a set and forget kind of thing. This often in combination with a El Capistan and a bit of reverb at the end. And yes I use my pedals with synths to.
That’s awesome! Sounds like a great set of effects. I love the tape emulation stuff too, so moody and interesting! I agree with using it sparingly too. I think it is easy to go overboard if you’re not careful, but it’s definitely hard to beat when you’re looking for that sound. Also thanks! I appreciate it!
@@Duskmos Oh yes. My first pedal was a reverb and I typically went overboard with that one. I recently learned, what I guess most people know, is that with reverb it is often good to set mix at 10-11 and pre delay at 2-3.
The T-120 works great as an always on to, to make Boards of Canada emulations etc, or on a drum it can be set on really deep to make it sound like you are randomly hitting different drums, aka jazz
: )
I get most of my gear second hand but the expensive Shallow Waters I bought new. I have been thinking about the Cooper FX Generation loss but think I got enough warble now. But then again, as it just came a v2 out, I might find the v1 for a good price.
Anyway, have a safe and great spring : )
if you had to choose between this and the El Cap, which one would you keep?
New subscriber! This s a great demo... lots of good content, great aesthetics and you have a great manner.
How you you rate this against the Shallow Water for that random warble/glitch/vibrato weirdness?
Thanks so much Pete, I really appreciate that! Welcome and thanks for commenting! =)
SO to answer your question, I actually sold the Shallow Water a while ago. I liked it for manipulating the signal in real-time a little more I think, and it was maybe a little better at those really intense "pitch peaks" in the tape style modulation glitches. However, I think I might prefer how the T-120 handles the delay, the way it breaks up is really pleasing (to my ear at least). I'd almost go Shallow Water if you want more of that intense tape glitch sound, and I'd go T-120 if you want a great lo-fi delay with some really good tape sounds.
I wish I had them both to A/B because I do think it would be a close call!
PS - I also have a video coming of the Walrus Julianna that now has random modulation and stereo - something else to consider if you're into some of that sweet warble action!
@@Duskmos thanks for the response, yeah I’m looking at the Julianna too actually. Decisions decisions...
Nice in-depth video! How did you connect the synth, Y cable to mono plug? And was the output also mono? Thanks!
You got it! Although it's not always recommended to merge a stereo signal down to a mono on a splitter, but it works ok. This was an early video I did, whereas now I tend to either just use one out (of the Digitone anyway) or (very rarely) use a small format mixer and roll with that. As long as you don't have any stereo modulation or anything like that going, I find most stereo synths work perfectly well this way, and what you lose from going mono out, you gain from using the interesting pedal haha. For the output I did exactly that, mono into a Y splitter for "stereo" (dual mono). For all of my videos I do this on pedals with mono outs, works well!
Think you’ve just sold me one of these bois. €100 more for the raw hand-stamped version but I have to have it!
Yesss they look so good! When I got mine that wasn’t a thing, but I def would’ve considered it haha. That being said, I like the VHS aesthetic too obviously :)
