    I barely got through Season I because the characters (with very few exceptions) were insufferable. In Season II they seem to have toned down the very abrasive nature of the characters and they were all actually quite likeable - even Smith. Overall I was most impressed with how Exciting each episode was- every episode the characters couldn’t have been in more peril, and the danger of the week format really kept the series going at a screaming pace. I loved it! Massive improvement over Season I

    Yeah, this season was just incredible. There's some wonky science and stuff, but I agree with pretty much everything you said, and the time skip between seasons was handled really well and made sense. Most shows, it's a new peril every 10 or 15 days over the course of a year. In this show, the first season happened over about six months, there were seven months between seasons where nothing much happened, and then everything in this season happened in about a week. Presumably there'll be another time skip next season as well, during which not a lot happened. That's unusual, but totally worked, and I *love* that the Robinsons are now a fully-functional family. The dysfunction of the first season was kind of annoying to me, as there was never any doubt that they'd get it patched up, but if they'd been this functional in season 1, it would have just seemed corny. Here, though, their commitment seemed well earned.
    When the subject of the mutiny came up, my kid said, "Wow, they're going full Severed Dreams here, aren't they?" Refering to Babylon 5, and I said, "Oh, good, glad to know it wasn't just me that felt that way."
    I politely disagree about Penny, though. I thought she was a pretty great character in season 1, kind of reckless, kind of adrift, kind of boy crazy. We needed at least one kid who acted like a kid, and she did that great. Her maturing in the 2nd season was a good payoff to that, though I do agree the whole "I'm not useful" thing in the first 2 episodes was a little tedious.

      Not only Penny but ALL of the primary cast of this show are amazing.That includes the actors and their screenwriters! I liked the comic book better than the old TV show but this is so far the best adaptation of Swiss Family Robinson ever!

      @resigned liberal We'll, it still has issues... But after the first 2 episodes of S2, things open up a bit and although all the same issues you cited are present. The story at least unfolded in a compelling way that these were seemingly diminished. It was simple entertainment. Personally, I like The Expanse much better, but I can't really share that with my kids... That SJW stuff doesn't really have an effect on me. They're never going to sell me on that crap... With that, they may have been slipping stuff in, in a less obtrusive way. That can be both good and bad... But for the exact same reason. Good because you don't really see it.... But bad because you don't really see it. The son I watched this with is Autistic and doesn't pick up on social connotations and agenda like most kids can... For me, the show was moreover time to bond with him. Something that I never really get to have. Perhaps that alone heightened my suspension of disbelief and dulled my senses to whatever agenda was being promoted.
      But truly.... The show does have a bit of stupid in it. Especially the first two episodes. I think once the main story arc kicks in, things seem a bit more cohesive. But their are still those moments.. Like when the wife says "great minds". And then proceeds to roll around in the stupid for a while. This happens way too much. The whole kite scene with the toxic seaweed is full of dillema unfolding because of stupid... So it seems that common sense is stripped away in favor of the plot moving forward, which as others have pointed out... The tropes get old fast.

    Interesting your comments about the emotional beats in the episode focused on Judy and her dad. The director of that episode was Jon East, who was also involved with the series Rocket Man - which had a LOT of familial heartstring pulling going on... also successfully, I felt. :)

    I'm not gonna lie, I've basically just been treating this version of Lost In Space as if it's a Star Trek show about a bunch of colonists, because it's exactly the kind of stories that I wish we really got to explore more of in the Star Trek universe. Also, I just really love this family A LOT, this cast together is really just pitch perfect and their bond with each other is my favorite thing. Hell, half the time I don't even care about the story or script or whatever, I could watch all of them just interacting as a family and it's enough for me. I can't wait for more seasons of this show, I really love it!

    I enjoyed season 1of Lost in Space, however season 2 took the show to a whole new level in terms of what has been discussed, the VFX were INSANE and my opinion of certain characters (in particular Maureen) has changed for the better. Season one, Maureen was my least favourite, in the way she was toward John and her pushy attitude in general, S2 she seemed to compromise more and show more empathy.
    'Smith' aka Zoe Smith aka Jessica Harris (together with John) is my favourite character. I never know what to make of her, a survivor? Yes, who seems sincere at times only to betray (and with that smile, always that smile).
    So looking forward to season 3!

    I really wanted to like Lost in Space, the movie has a special place in my heart (I know it wasn't the best film but it was one of my favourites as a child).
    However, there are just too many characters making absolutely absurd decisions. I mean, how many of the issues that came up could have been resolved if these people just talked to each other? Or if conversations involed more than 2 people:
    •In season 1 when Smith was locked up and told Maureen her real name, then when John spoke to Smith, she denied saying it and implied Maureen was delusional. If the Robinsons spoke to her together, no problem!
    •In this season, the security guy who was on to Smith; did he not tell anyone he suspected she was lying before being paralysed? Did he make no notes or logs? And Smith just walks free?? Are you kidding me? If there was another guard in the room or if the guy made any notes or told someone else, no problem!
    •In this season; If West was just honest with the Robinsons, Smith would have nothing on him then no problem!
    •In this season when Maureen finds out that Smith has been escaping her room, she doesn't tell John because she wants to leave the planet... What?? Smith tried to kill the Robinsons and is now freely moving about and this raises no alarms?
    I just don't understand why this family just doesn't communicate. And why oh why do they not deal with Smith? They know she's not only dangerous, but she's murderous! They just let her roam around causing trouble and hurting people and they act like they just don't care or even notice?? I ended up getting so frustrated that I had to stop watching it. The examples I gave are only a few of the ones I remember.
    So in conculsion: I think it sucked.

      @@invertedpolarity6890 Well the only reason I actually made it to the end of season 2 was that around ep 6 I just started playing on my phone a lot more and just sort of picking up the major plot points. • @Mopantsu
      @Mopantsu Před 4 lety

      Smith is sneaky and everyone was too preoccupied with just surviving to deal with Smith directly. They tried to deal with her when they hooked up with the mothership but she managed to weedle out of that and then they were all thrown full blast into problem after problem making their hands too full to keep her under control.

    • @mahatmarandy5977

      So if i understand you, you're saying the show sucks because of smith, but otherwise it's good?

    • @SaroDantra
      @SaroDantra Před 4 lety +2

      @@mahatmarandy5977 Not exactly, but I would certainly say that the character of Smith could have used some tweaking. So she's a straight up, cold blooded murderer, because of this I see no sensible reason they would keep her around. If I had someone within my sphere of influence that not only killed people strictly for person gain, but also tried to kill me and my family there would be no senario in which I would allow them to be around me.
      If they made her opportunistic and self-serving but not violent and useful, then I think the whole 'crazy situations' they get into would be more understandable. Like "Shes a pain, but shes useful!" instead of "Shes a murderer but she hasn't managed to kill us yet despite several and ongoing attempts as well as already managing to kill several other people while showing no remorse or signs of slowing down...".
      I would say the examples I gave are all symptoms of the real problem; contrivance. Nobody speaks to each other because if they do, the situations they get into would not happen, so the writers contrive reasons for them to happen. With the example I gave about West; all he had to say is "Hey Robinsons, before I joined the expedition I was a smuggler, I'm not proud but I've put that behind me." Easy. But because the story calls for Smith to have something on West to get him to help her, he doesn't say anything and does more dodgy stuff for Smith. So it's more that contrived situations annoy and frustrate me than Smith herself. Does that make sense?

      it's exactly what I love about modern TV...less filler. At 40 minutes average per episode you have just under 7 hours to tell your story in a 10 episode set. More than enough time. I watch CW shows which last a more traditional number of episodes and the stories just drag.

    I would love to know how "Smith" could have had that highly toxic plant when she'd been stuck on the Jupiter all that time and she would have had to slip it into the book she was carrying while under surveillance by the Resolute's security forces (she didn't know she was going to be captured and hadn't had the book before this anyway to stick the plant into it and given how deadly it was wouldn't have dared handle it with her bare hands anyway). I felt there are just too many convenient situations happening...like her also being able to get into the Security computers on the Resolute so she could easily change her personal profile. The terminal was just left unsecured when everyone left the ship to head down to planet? Also, regarding those recordings she "erased". Anybody that knows computers knows nothing is ever erased. There are always backups and you can recover files even when they have been "erased". These wouldn't have been physical film recordings that you could just destroy and if the chief of security knew they were there he would have been able to recover them. Or retrieve them from backup. And his poisoning surely would show up when they run a medical scan on him in the sickbay and they'd find the leaf there in the room (or should at least cause Smith isn't going to pick it up with her hands plus it's all being recorded) And on a little different note, I would prefer if they could decide whether to stick with totally CGI robot or man in costume robot cause the two look dramatically different and it's jarring when they mix them together for different shots.

And if Netflix doesn't want to continue the seasons then maybe somebody else to pick them up. I could imagine what the other seasons would be like specially them all working together. The one thing that I like the most is that they show a real strong family bond and in this day and age I think that's what people look for the most love and compassion and adventure. Something that people look forward to especially the ones that don't have it. I give this show a 5-star 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟and if I could I would give it a ten-star🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.

    I don't know if it was just something I noticed more in season than 1 and it was in both, but season 2 was just so predictable with everything that happened due to the writing/style of presentation. It didn't feel like a free flowing story going from event to event while being internally consistent, it felt like they were going down a list of scenes to include to be relevant later and just fulfilling the purpose of those scenes as things went on.
    Most of those were needed for the plot to make sense, but some, like the mother taking a picture of the alien writing for example came down to stopping the show in its tracks so the audience can 100% know "okay, she has this picture, it'll be relevant later I guess". It's the way they're presented and how hammered in their point is.
    The characters also in general just weren't as likable in this season, they were mostly either whiny or narcissistic a lot of the time. They tried to highlight some character flaws and issues going on between them but didn't give them what they needed to seem worth it. All in all made it a lot harder to give a shit about any of them this season which says a lot because for season 1 it was easy peasy lemon squeezy to care about them and their survival/goals.

    Did we watch the same show? The whole thing was contrived, not just Smith's arc. I was going to get into detail discussing all the lazy writing, but then you mentioned how fans (particularly Star Wars fans) don't hold any sway over media, so I figured I'd just be wasting my time.
    Solo lost money, guy. A 'Star Wars' movie lost money.

    Too predictable and simply not creative or imaginative,the premise seems to be to lurch from one disaster to the next,miraculously escape from each disaster with zero casualties or fatalities and simply not to suffer in any real shape or form.As for Smith how on earth has she not been dealt with yet her ability to escape any kind of punishment is almost as unbelievable as the Robinson’s surviving all the shit that hits the fan..Visually it looks great however everything else is pretty weak and not memorable

    Spoiler alert! Yes ... Yes, it did SUCK. Three words (horses on a Space Ship), ok ignore the "on" and the "a". But for the All-Mighty Google's sake, this is very lazy writing. It is possible to write a good story with a plot twist and interesting characters and yet still be scientifically and logically sound. The High atmospheric balloon stunt, they pulled in the first Season was a stretch, I mean it goes without saying that, every space ship has to stock up on balloons and Helium. But Come ON ... Horses?!! I want to know one thing, who was responsible for cleaning all the poop?

  • @jonathanadnitt7704

    Loved season one, but this season was very predictable with characters making the dumbest decision with a lot of the story being just filler episodes that could have been wrapped up in half the time. Great fx but i hope if there is a season 3 they get better writers.

  • @NORFIE123456
    @NORFIE123456 Před 4 lety +3

    The show although artisitcally well designed, becomes heavily more grating after each episode. The 'always in peril' Robinsons and co becomes tiresome REALLY quickly, and you get the impression that the family can't catch a break, and even when they do the writers and creators want to screw things up for them. Again the best thing about S2 was Will's robot, and even then he's only in it for a few episodes. Not only that but there are several plot points that are left completely gaping and unanswered. I'd prefer the series became more about the robots and the other aliens in the galaxy than the Robinsons.

  • @ArdaKaraduman
    @ArdaKaraduman Před 4 lety +1

    I'm sorry but season 2 was terrible. Their decision to include artificial tension points every 10 minutes just bores and cheapens the plot, because you if something can go wrong, you know 100% that somebody will do something stupid and there will be tension. I could hardly watch it to the end.

  • @julius-stark
    @julius-stark Před 4 lety +2

    I enjoyed season 2 a lot more than season 1, but I'd say it 35% sucked. Like, why did the metal eating virus only appear when the Robinsons showed up? How did it eat the pins in the guy's leg if it only transfers through direct contact? Did it attach to the iron in his blood? Then why didn't it kill that guy and everyone who breathed it in by breaking down the iron in their blood?
    Where did all the robots at the end come from? Where did their ship come from? Why did they go through all that trouble to return Scarecrow if all he did was make all the other robots come after them? Why did Scarecrow wait so long to switch sides? How did Smith get into the Jupiter after she ditched her space suit?
    I like the characters but there was a ton of dumb stuff going on.

      Turn your brain off it's a family show!

    • @subraxas
      @subraxas Před 2 lety

      There could have been an incubation period of certain length for the metal-eating virus; like it works with real-world viruses.
      Or the virus could be seasonal. Again, as well as many real viruses are.
      In a regard of the guy with the metal pins in his knee; well, you obviously did not pay much attention, but for a big chunk of the season they were sorting out how to safely bring and utilize the alien water onto the Resolute.
      So the (non-)mystery of yours was their having drunk the ALIEN WATER which, however, negatively impacted only metals and nothing organic.
      "Where did all the robots at the end come from? Where did their ship come from?"
      Why would you urgently need to know that? Those are pretty redundant questions.
      "Why did they go through all that trouble to return Scarecrow if all he did was make all the other robots come after them?"
      How could they possibly know that upfront? Are you OK? :-D
      "Why did Scarecrow wait so long to switch sides?"
      Again, you obviously struggle to pay attention. If you've watched any of the two seasons, you must have already learnt of how the robots' minds, rationale and decision-making work and these aspects were also FREQUENTLY discussed on the show by the Human protagonists.
      "How did Smith get into the Jupiter after she ditched her space suit?"
      What a stupid question!! That was OBVIOUSLY (for anyone with half a brain) an intentional mystery planted therein to make the audience wonder thereabout, that will for sure be revealed and explained later on. They already used the same screenwriting trick on this very show several times before and throughout the history of cinema it has already been used like gazillion times.
      Is this the very first thing you have ever watched in your life?
      I am going to ask again.... are you seriously OK?
