  • Haloview sent me their new reversing camera and it was so easy to get going. I just turned on the camera with a simple button and plugged the screen into the cars cigarette lighter... and it worked.
Add a couple of the sticky magnet sheets wherever you want, and then you can change the camera location. I've put one on the back of the caravan and ute. Now I can use it to help connect my car to the caravan too.
The reversing camera is called Haloview Handy 7 wireless hitch camera system:

Hi Karen , I think someone else has already mentioned it but I’m pretty sure the blue colour on your magnetic plates is just a protective film that should be removed, and will probably improve contact a bit better. I may be wrong but you should check it out. Great gadget though.

Just make sure, before using an international plug adaptor, that the plug power unit they have supplied works with NZ 230/240v power. I’ve occasionally had kit with a US style plug that only works on 110/120v, and using an adaptor here in the U.K. (also 230v) does let the “magic smoke” out with quite a loud bang. There should be a label on it telling you the working voltage range. Stay safe.

I have a retrofit reversing camera on my car. Skoda Octavia is just a normal sized family car but my house is at the end of a narrow lane which narrows to little more than an alleyway and finally ends in a flight of steps. Both my neighbours have small Fiats but something that small would be no good for my trips to Scotland. Parking used to be a complete nightmare, particularly at night, but now I can see clearly out the back. I can also reverse the car up to my caravan and hitch up first time. The camera can't be angled down to see the tow ball but it doesn't matter as you can put a piece of tape at the exact centre line of the van. Then when you reverse keep the tape in the centre of the rear view mirror, which goes to camera view when you reverse. In misty rainy England you also need to wipe the lens with Rain-ex fluid occasionally. This stops rain drops from beading on the camera and obstructing your view.
Still very envious about your piece of land. Brexit and Covid have messed up my plans completely. At least I don't live in a city, where people have to get some semblance of exercise with dozens of other people milling around a public park.

Make a metal bracket inside and put the camera in inside facing out the window, and the same with the caravan. This way its protected from the weather, in case it falls off from going over harsh roads (they slide down the plate over time), and also from theft from a passer by!

Love the gate latch you have to the new property. :-) Do you use "safety chains" in New Zealand to attach trailers to the tow vehicle (in case the trailer comes unhitched)? I did not see you hook them up when you were hitching and I was wondering if that was just left out or are they not used there.

    • @TravellingK
