  • And I say "Hey! It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood!" That's right: before Avengers: Infinity War was a crossover even more epic: the time Mr. Rogers stayed at Arthur Read's house in a Season 2 episode of Arthur. But Arthur is embarrassed because his friends think Mr. Rogers is for babies... Well, his friends are DEAD WRONG! Join me as I revisit this classic Arthur episode, bringing two PBS giants together on screen.

    Arthur also appeared (as a puppet in the Neighborhood Of Make Believe) on Mr Rogers too. The episode also featured Marc Brown (the author of the Arthur books)

      More or less, and if he were friends with the Belgian private investigator Hercule Poirot, well, Poirot would have gone to the Texas town of Arlen where they propane salesman Hank Hill lives, and he would have caught local patent lawyer Eustace Miller embezzling funds meant for the schools in Arlen during his tenure as the chairman of the Arlen School Board.

    They say that the reason Mr Rogers always wore the long sleeved sweaters, was because he was an ex-Marine with tattoos that covered his arms. That is an urban myth though... I think... 😅

    • @JanelleWaz
      @JanelleWaz  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, that one I believe is an urban legend. I think he originally wore the sweaters because his mom originally made the sweaters he wore on the show. Eventually, they had to make new ones because his mom had since passed away and the sweaters he was wearing were getting worn down.

      @@JanelleWaz I had checked after I posted, just to see what is up. Per the wiki he wore them because he felt more comfortable wearing them around children, as opposed to short sleeved shirts? But it might also be what you had said about his mother knitting them for him, which is sweet and sad at the same time.
      They say Bob Ross started the afro to save money on hair cuts, but then he got sick of it, but it was part of his identity by that point, so he kept it through much, if not all of his career.
      Not sure how perming was cheaper than regularly cutting though... Maybe another Urban Myth, but multiple sources that seem legit state this.

    Car thieves once stole Mr Rogers car. When it was reported on the news that night, his car was back in it's spot the next morning with an apology letter.

    Kinda funny you used Mr Rogers appearing on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show since Carson impersonated him, and apologized for it since it was "dirty". Naturally I found it hysterical!!

    I grew up watching Arthur, the first several seasons from the late nineties through the early 2000's mostly. Re-watching a lot of episodes that aired from 1996-2001 since we had those on tape. I'm also among the last generation to grow up with and remember Mr. Rodgers too. I watched his show as well, though not to the same extent as Arthur. Arthur had a huge impact on me as a kid (I credit an episode of Arthur where the kids visit an art museum with getting me into modern art) and I look back positively on it. This particular episode has long been a favorite and long stuck out to me, not just because of it being a crossover, but also because the "Now from us Kids" segment that bridged this segment and the other this episode, was a behind scenes bonus on the making of the episode with Mr. Rodgers himself. In conversations about Mr. Rodgers, ones where I often talk about how I do in fact remember his show and how much I miss him, I often bring up this episode of Arthur.

    • @JanelleWaz
      @JanelleWaz  Před rokem

      I nearly included the Now From Us Kids segment in my video, but my video was getting kinda long, so I ended up cutting it. I vividly remembered the recording studio scenes where Mr. Rogers read his lines and sounded much sterner than he was in the show. It was a nice behind the scenes segment, though. Almost reminiscent of those segments in Mr. Rogers episodes where he would show how something is made.

      Well, on MRN itself, he had a few of his PBS friends come. Not all at once, unfortunately, but in episodes featuring each of them. Unfortunately, due to the fact that they're fictional characters, puppet Arthur and Big Bird are both confined to the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, but LeVar Burton (of Reading Rainbow) and Bill Nye (Bill Nye: The Science Guy) appeared in the makeshift real world part of their episodes to espouse the virtues of reading and science, of course.

    By the time this crossover episode had come out, I wasn't watching Arthur, and I don't think my siblings watched it either. So I didn't even know this crossover had happened. But, Mister Rogers Neighborhood was one of my favourite shows growing up. I also watched Sesame Street, Barney & Friends, The Adventures of Dudley the Dragon, Mr. Dressup (being Canadian afterall), Sharon, Lois & Bram's Elephant Show, Ghostwriter, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Zoobilee Zoo, and many many others.

    Never was much of an Arthur fan. Not really sure why. Maybe his annoying sister. Maybe the way they were drawn. Maybe the voices. Or maybe the subject matter was too close to home.
    I did however appreciate a few epiosdes like when Buster (the rabbit?) went Amish-ish.
    And when one of the girls wanted that universe's Harry Potter book, but it was both sold out in stores and checked out from the library. The only copy left was braile, so she had to learn to read it with the help of a blind student.
    And one episode where the female(s) bullies became nice, at least for a short while.
    And one where the male bully (Binky? What ever the heck that thing is... 😮) was left to fend for himself after his parents left him to die, but was in fact only like twenty minutes late to pick him up from school or sports practice. 😅
