Can you do the History of Dragon Tales please?
I think they've been doing reruns for quite awhile, at least since the pandemic started
Can you make more PBS Rewind Episodes?
@@bluescluesthewigglesyeserg5648 I think Defunctland already did an episode on that.
Future Installments of PBS videos I’d love to see:
Where In The World/In Time is Carmen Sandiego?
The Magic School Bus
Kratts’ Creatures
Wishbone
Ghostwriter
Square One TV
Bill Nye the Science Guy
Lamb Chop’s Play-Along
Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood
Whoever the librarian was that suggested the Arthur books to be a TV show to the producer I just want to say thankyou!!! I enjoyed this show as a kid and as a adult ne er grew out of it!
It hits harder as an adult tbh!
So glad that someone finally made a documentary about Arthur. It is one of the most monumental children shows of all time and will live forever. It really is a shame there isn't more about this stuff and it's basically all compilation videos and "savage moments." Which is cool and all but it's just not this.
Thank You! :) We were surprised too that nobody else had made one yet. Yeah I know what you mean. There really should be more videos about PBS Kids shows.
Arthur should've ended before streaming now I'm doomed to live a brave new world!!!!!!!!
PBS kids oughta that arthur needs to end depending it lasts so my opinion it would've been easier to cancel the franchise before cable TV died!!!!!!!
@@pbsrewind What's next for this Series?
Well like a lot of shows, the reason we don't see much episodes on CZcams is because of copyright. 10 years ago, there was hundreds of Arthur episodes on CZcams, no ads, great audio, clear picture, and it was the full episodes too. Nowadays, you can still find some, but not all.
Arthur was an outstanding show. It never got the hype franchises like Rugrats or SpongeBob SquarePants got. But that worked in it's favor, as it was a slow burn, that flew under the radar. Arthur is one of those IPs that you don't realize just how successful it was until you see it's brag sheet on paper, and you're like "holy shit!" A book series, a cartoon series, movies, video games, toys, DVDs, etc. There's even Arthur cookies. Arthur cookies! It was (and still is) a media empire.
If Arthur didn't last for many years I wouldn't have to be addicted
I miss the 2000s Era
And to think the show came out the same day Hey Arnold! premiered on Nick too, and we see that Arthur managed to outlive that AND the 2017 Jungle Movie revival.
@@EvanMediaArchive its the longest running children's cartoon. It will soon be overtaken by the show Spongebob Squarepants. But Arthur has been around in book form for almost 50 years.
@@joeybaseball7352 in terms of episodes yeah i believe spongebob has overtaken arthur. but in terms of years airing new episodes? yeah give it a few years
I’m glad grew up watching Arthur when I was younger along with other PBS Kids shows from the 90s, 2000s and Early 2010s
Same!!! :) So many great shows like Zoboomafoo, Dragon Tales, Clifford The Big Red Dog, Between The Lions amd more!
Why didn't Arthur get cancelled so that wouldn't run out of ideas eventually just to so it doesn't turn into adobe flash!?
@@pbsrewindThere's an episode called "Jenna's Bedtime Blues"
As a 22 year old going to school to become a teacher, and growing up watching Arthur. I can’t wait to share the Arthur episodes with my students and my own children. I really miss Arthur.

This will forever be one of my favorite childhood shows. It's taught to have be creative, driven and open minded!
Hard to believe it’s been on 25 years, I remember in 1997 my 8th grade English and and homeroom teacher loved the show, so sometimes we’d watch episodes in class rather than book work.
But the first book I read was Arthur’s Eyes in the first grade in 1990 and that’s also the year I got my first glasses.
The entire PBS Kids Go block from the mid 2000’s is an entire gold mine of pbs shows
Arthur should've been cancelled before the next decade!!!!!!!
I didn't want arthur to continue get worse this is the reason arthur stinks!!!!!!!
@@gabriellitewski7988 relax no need to comment it 500 times to get your point across
I’m gonna miss Arthur, I been watching it ever since I was little
I agree with you, because I'll miss it, too. Reruns are on Channel 192 PBS Kids Sprout.
same
Same here. I still remember watching Arthur every morning before school. I also had a few tapes of Arthur
@@JohnAckerman93 same
Just think, if Marc Brown didn't let the merchandising happen the show may well have only lasted one season despite its success. It's just amazing that Arthur was able to last 25 continuous years and garner multiple generations of fans. It went out with a bang as well with the All Grown Up finale.
The show is almost as old as I am. I had the books and the plush doll.
Meh, the last after season 13th apart from some episodes the rest sucked
@@umberto7773i think it's the oppsite in my opinion, it's when they introduced ladonna, the switch to flash animation and they butchered the writing
This show will hold a special place in my heart.
Among my friends I'm known to go on long spiels about Arthur. It is my comfort show and can have it's childish moments but totally an enjoyable show for all
But Arthur can't be last for many years thus isn't right the show is a waste of time autistic people aging!!!!!!!!!!!
@@gabriellitewski7988 are you ok? You seem to be having a melt down all over these comments...
Arthur was a good show, I will never forget how it ended, and what it was.
I still remember watching Arthur every morning before school. It was such an awesome show, and I even have some tapes of Arthur as well.
This is a fantastic documentary, also the one dislike is from Mr. Ratburn because he's a tough teacher or binky. 🤣
Haha! XD Nah, its probably from DW.. She's probably mad mad we didn't name it "The History of Arthur and DW' and also we forgot to mention her snowball.
Arthur was my childhood favorite show of all-time. I miss Arthur already.
Arthur gone but never forgotten.
Thank you to everyone for watching! I hope you all enjoy!
It was wonderful. Winter 2022 can't get here soon enough
what a great cartoon arthur is.
Arthur was once my nostalgia, and it always will.
Arthur is the best PBS Show along with Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers. Thanks for the video.
I agree! I’m liking this video so far - closest thing to a DefunctTV episode about Arthur!
I remember when Mr. Rogers visited Marc Brown's house in a mid 90s episode of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. The kid who first voiced Arthur was there too. He looked younger than he was.
I remember watching Arthur everyday after school before I did my homework and ate dinner it was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid
I miss my childhood shows, since I was little.
Stay tuned, we're going to try to bring them back! ;)
I wish Between the Lions would come back
@@terrenceharris-hughes4436 We do too! We're going to try to make that happen! :)
Arthur should've have lasted too long!!!!!!!!!
I want Arthur to end before children's cartoons died!!!!!!!!
Came here because the show finally ended its run recently.
SPOILER: The show ends with a grown up Arthur Read, now a author of a autobiographical graphic novel, previewing his book to his friends. First chapter actually explaining the very first episode. Meta but nice ending.
(The original voice actor came back to reprise his role as Arthur in the finale.) I use to watch this everyday as a kid. Even though I'll miss it, I'm glad it ended on a good note as it didn't overstay its welcome like what the Simpsons is doing.
EDIT: It is also so far the ONLY PBS KIDS show to have a conclusive ending. Most shows end abruptly because of having enough episode to have reruns last for years or low ratings.
Michael Yarmush never left. He voiced another character in the show, but returned to voice Arthur one last time
@@fammithommproductions I see, that's pretty cool.
Marvel: Infinity War is the most ambitious crossover of all time

Out of all the Arthur episodes, I mainly like certain episodes from the Christmas special, season 6, the rock n roll special, season 7 to season 22 and season 25 too. Here is a list of them:
Arthur’s perfect Christmas
Season 6: Sue Ellen gets her goose cooked/best of the nest, the boy who cried comet/Arthur and los Vecinos, the boy with his head in the clouds/more, crushed, Arthur loses his marbles/Friday the 13th

So nice that you guys could make a history on the show! I did not know a lot of this, especially about all the Arthur merch. Looks like I know what’s going on my Xmas list 🤫
Thank You! :) We were surpeised about the merch too! I think even the Microsoft Actimates Arthur toy deserves its own video!
@@pbsrewindThe show was also known for the episode about the Omble backpack
The best PBS Kids show of all time. That and WordGirl are tied for my favorite animated show on the channel and had such a big impact on me as a child.
The last new episodes of Arthur aired on President's Day. I remember watching this show in preschool. Hard to believe it's been that long. During the show's first season, Michael Caloz, who did the original voice of DW, narrated the show's funding credits.
This made me tear up a lot!! 🥺🥺🥺 thank you for the best childhood ever!! ❤️
I enjoyed watching this documentary! I thought it was really informative! Especially when it spoke about how Arthur went from being a book series to a successful tv show for many years! I’m glad I grew up on this PBS classic!
This Show will always be my favorite piece of Childhood Nostalgia
8:27 the succeeding record, "Arthur's Really Rockin' Music Mix" is better than the first record. Mrs. Wha-cha-ma-call-it, a song off the second album, was mind blowing when I first heard it because it's basically a combination of Led Zeppelin, The Byrds, Weird AL, and Deep Purple.
My son is 7 and absolutely adores Arthur, it was my favorite as a child as well. We have been watching all the episodes on Amazon prime and it’s been such a fun and special time bonding over our favorite episodes and moments. ♥️
Funfact: Various Arthur books had their illustrations redesigned so younger generations would recognize them more easily due to the population of the show. Books such as, "Arthur's Eyes", "Arthur's Valentine" "Arthur goes to camp", "Arthur's April Fool", And of course "Arthur's Halloween".
This show will always have a place in my heart 💛🤎🤍 no other kids show has tackled life issues that children ages 4-10 would experience and I could say all school aged children like Arthur. All the original characters are memorable and so cute! I’m 32 going on 33 and I was in kindergarten when the show first aired. I was excited because Marc Brown’s books were the first books I read. I’m rewatching (binge watching) episodes now it’s so much nostalgia and brings me comfort. Marc Brown’s legacy will continue on with Arthur.
Would love to see a documentary like this about "The Magic School Bus"
Agreed! Would love to see an episode about how it made the leap to television screens!
I may be old now, but Arthur still holds a special place in my heart from my childhood. Pretty sure I watched every episode as they aired from Season 1 until somewhere around Season 13. From there I caught the odd episode now and then until the switch to Flash animation and totally abandoned it--it just looked so much cheaper and was hard to watch. But I'll always consider those early seasons as some of the best kid's programming ever.
I loved watching Arthur, growing up in the 2000s and 2010s, the show was a highlight of my childhood, I mean I watch episodes of Arthur here on CZcams, and I guess I subscribed to the channel and followed the show's IG and I hope that kids today will feel that feeling of Joy and Hope that we probably all felt while watching the show and I damn sure hope they appreciate it as much as we did.😃😃😃
Wqtching this after watching the "All Grown Up" episode.
That ending remix was something I forgot was a thing. What a way to end it, thanks for reminding me it existed.

This was amazing. I definitely want to see what other PBS shows you will cover.
I am surprised that Arthur was still getting new releases into this year.
From all the times I've looked at the PBS station here in the last 5 years, nearly all shows I see are nothing I recognize. Only time I would catch Arthur was late at night on the kids channel.
Was very nostalgic to watch old reruns, and was happy to see a few years ago that the christmas special was still played.
I'll miss the show. But so happy that the CZcams trend is going towards highlighting the amazingly humorous PBS kids cartoons like Arthur, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Martha Speaks, Word Girl, and hopefully others.
Currently, I work at a library and my mother sometimes teases me with the classic "Having fun isn't hard"
Really great overview of a show I still really love! ^v^ Also, I'm kinda surprised that you didn't mention the recent 1-hr special where Arthur and Buster have to deal with being separated in the 4th grade and DW and her friends experiencing Kindergarten. Other than that small oversight, this was a great vid, and I'm both excited and sad for the final Arthur season. Really hoping they create something truly special.
Yes we should have! The script and a lot of it was already completed when the special came out so that is why we didn't include it. But maybe we will come out with a video about the special and the rest of Season 25 later!

The sentence at 5:15 alone sums up why the show still holds up, because it does what a lot of educational shows don't: not talking down to their audience.

Yeah I was one of those folks who wrote to PBS to get “ Lance Armstrong “ pulled
1. He’s a loser/ cheater / drug addict
2. To teach kids doing drugs is okay / not educational
3. To teach kids to cheat to achieve goals / not educational
4. To take steroids / can be influential and send a bad message
Thank god that episode is pulled!
There are also two other episodes with Lance or a character based on him that also no longer air after Lance admitted to doping.

Nice, why didn't you make this video after the final episode of Arthur aired? You could've shown us footage of the final episode where Arthur is all grown up (like the episode's title) and we could've "really" seen him one final time for sure. Also, can you please talk about the History of Theodore Tugboat since that aired from 1993-2001 on both PBS and PBS Kids? Lastly, do you plan on releasing other videos in the future?
