Now look and Johnny's lawyer's desk. A note pad and a small stack of printed material. *_FOCUS and CONTROL_* Not a hint of desperation. The other team will not be referencing this case to gain more clients.

She was reading the entire time, that's not allowed unless it's available to the jury. Sounded like a script being read. Don't trust her one bit.
Its frankly ridicilous. She said she never spoke to or examined Johnny, but yet she also testified that Johnny was the abuser. Like, how in the fuck is that even possible? Not only is it illegal for a witness to draw conclusions, it's also improper and simply impossible to conclude that if she never examined Johnny himself.

To be fair though she does seem very qualified, i expect she's being paid to lean that way, I think she was very graphic and going for Shock and awe, that will have won amber a ton of sympathy. Don't think it's particularly unprofessional, just got to remember that court is all about theatrics

How can Dr. Hughes say with a straight face that Amber has no history of violence when she was arrested for assaulting her ex girlfriend. Also how can she so confidently talk about things she never witnessed, as she was hired in 2019, way after the relationship ended. Isn't that like the definition of hearsay?
Has this been brought up in court yet? Pretty standard for previous cases to used as basis for newer ones.

Everything Dr H said was based on hearsay. Other doctor’s notes and AHs personal accounts. Her testing should be discarded, she didn’t even follow the test instructions.
Dr. Hughes was incredibly unprofessional and clearly biased, there were times where i could hardly believe what i was hearing from her. I can't wait for cross, I see a lot of oppertunities for JD's team to tear her to shreds and use her own statements about DV victims and pin them on Johnny to re-affirm to the jury that he was indeed the victim.
I'm glad they ended before the cross starts... I have a feeling Dr Hottie there (curry?) will have some advice for depps counsel on how to rip that lady apart.

@@Stewiedude1 I can't comment on whether they're good shrinks, but: 1) they're both expert witnesses, not fact witnesses, meaning they are there to give an opinion on the facts, not to assert new facts themselves; 2) as experts, they both have excellent qualifications and they're both getting handsome paychecks for testifying; 3) they both give expert testimony regularly and make a lot of money for it; and 4) neither would be up there in this trial if she weren't going to say _exactly_ what counsel that called her wants her to say. So yeah, take both of them with a grain of salt.
I definitely think Curry came across better, but part (not all) of the reason I think that is because Curry is good-looking. Her testimony itself was excellent, reasoned and intelligent - but looks do matter, both positively and negatively. It's entirely possible that Curry came across worse with some jurors for no other reason than her looks.
Absolutely brilliant this recap is a piece of art. Mum's friend, nose wiping, rottenburns attempt at dismissing the trial, the commentary during the camera panning. Appreciate the unbiased commentary from start to finish. Truly appreciate the quality of commentary on such a joke of trial.

I think what really throws it off is the witness Amber got mentioned that the stuff that happened to Johnny, the physical abuse, the cut finger, manipulation were all "low level". There's nothing low level about what was done to him and it was clear there's a bias to what she said

Lifelong Virginian here. So, here's the deal with our state seal: it's a depiction of Virtus, the Roman deity of strength, virtue and bravery, standing over a slain depiction of Tyranny. The state motto 'Sic Semper Tyrannis' is Latin for 'Thus always to tyrants'. Basically, the violence of the graphic suggests that if you're a tyrannical asshat, things will end up really shitty for you.
Also, to give a bit of context to all the nose wiping going on: it's spring here (I mention it because I assume it's currently autumn in Australia where you are??), and tree pollen is NOTORIOUSLY nasty here for allergy sufferers, especially for out-of-state visitors who aren't used to its effects. The way Mr Chew pointed and raised his voice when pointing out Amber's proven abuse is exactly what I would expect from a passionate father.
There was a lot of contempt and disgust in his voice, while the entirety of the case up until this point he's been nothing but a gentleman, and none of it seems fake.
That could speak to a jury.
At this point i am on Johnny's side and i do think he was a bit abusive. I will happily be that guy and say she deserved it.

I think Ben Chew getting emotional was different that AH'S lawyers. He was get heated on behalf of his client, while AH'S lawyer were getting heated because the witnesses were not agreeing with their questions. I think that if Chew can remain calm and collected during the cross, and then emotional in closing, it could influence the jury. In which way idk, could be good for JD or bad for JD.

There was ALOT wrong with Amber's first witness. She was supposed to be up there as an expert witness, but at many points was testifying as though she was a factual witness that was there witnessing Johnny allegedly abuse Amber. We should have never heard that from her. Only her professional and expert opinions.
Her bias in abuse was made obvious in her pronoun use. "She" and "her" were used to describe victims of abuse. While she explicitly used the word "men" when describing perpetrators.
This Bias has potential opened the door for grounds to impeach her as an expert witness. Though that is a difficult and unlikely task.
Regardless, #himtoo started trending top 10 on Twitter while Amber's witness was on the stand. So again, Amber loses the court of public opinion. The one that matters most.

@@radicalgoose1923 I think its definitely possible, technically its only defamation, not on who the abuser is etc, and JD even admitted the headbut (as an accident trying to restrain her), and the kick (in a text), which might mean at least one of the jurors think that technically she has a write to say she was abused. I can see her getting away with it
The whole jury has to agree which is a big ask. She'll probably win but Depp wins overall as now everyone can see the situation for what it is.

That second shrink lost almost all credibility when she didn't understand why a skewed distribution wouldn't impact percentiles; she lost the rest of it when she said "trying to have sex with [Heard]" was sexual abuse.

What so surreal is I’m a retired Fairfax County cop, and I know Judge Penny Azcarate very well. She’s the wife of my old partner, and used to be one hell of a prosecutor before she became a judge.
My friends that are still on the job said the area in and around the courthouse has been a circus for weeks.
