    1. attitude of the learner

    - Accept the uncertainty for polyglots; How to maintain? you will forget what you learn but you can pick up quickly.
    - attitude to learn
    - time you spend with the language, not with its grammars.
    - the ability to notice how the language works. e.g That old audios listened again will notice some new things. structure, phrases
    - line by line listening and reading + do other things while listening to familiar audios.
    - Steve Kaufmann does not focus on the writing systems in most languages. (an interesting feature)
    - willing to let it in, let it come into you; trust your brain will learn. wash on my brain.
    - focus on comprehension and enjoying the language. Don't focus on many details.
    - learning a language is to learn the culture.

Great discussion. In particular the last part. Even though technology can solve lots of translaton needs, but high-tech translation software can not replace communication and connection between humans, in particualr lots of emotional intellegence related context can never be translated. So it worth the time to learn the language and learning foreign languages are enormously and largely rewarded in many ways.

I have always loved reading as a tool for learning. And LinQ saves so much time, really accelerates learning.

At my job I sat next to an Account Manager who looked after Dutch customers, he spoke "The queens english" with a slighly cockney accent, so imagine my surprise when he picks up his phone and talks to a Dutch customer fluently! I'm fascinated by how quickly he switched languages without any effort at all, it melts my brain the more I think about it.

I would like to say that we don't forget a language, the memory pointers are weak, or getting weak. Once you reinforce the pointer, the whole language comes back. I wish we stop using this phrase. I always say it is dormant. It sleeps and you have to wake it up. Looking at this way gives yourself more power.

Great interview! It helped me to let go of another layer of my perfectionism! Question: I hear about so many great learning programs and sites but Hindi very rarely shows up on their content. It's the 3rd most spoken language in the world so WHY are the resources so hard to find? Is there a secret to finding resources?
