As someone from the Midwest, this video frustrated me
Clayton Baker I agree so much.
This is not Midwest food
I know I feel like the first thing they had I’ve never even heard of and the things some of them said was awful I mean and all they didn’t even do a typical thing cooked at home in Michigan like it was just Jimmy Johns i mean what about typical things we make at home the foods they had are not typical things we eat and I hate the name “Americans try food from the Midwest for the first time“ like are people from the Midwest not Americans or something!😡
@My Family , while we do have dishes like these, we also have more sophisticated dishes that are not outlined in this video. Many amazing recipes and restaurants were started and curated in the Midwest.
Clayton Baker no Chicago deep dish pizza😶
"The Midwest is like southern Canada, right?"
that's the nicest thing anyone's ever said about us
I internally screamed "No we are NOT!"
Chicago is the Miami of Canada, according to The Simpsons.
@Grace Kearney me too! It almost sounds like they're trying to be funny but come off as uppity
at least I can get out of america :)
Yes.
Everyone from the Midwest: *Wait Jimmy Johns is only a Midwestern thing?*

Alternate title: Californians Try Midwest Food For The First Time
Or even better, "Californians try American food for the first time."
Realkekznogimmickz that’s the one
Not everyone is from California.
Jeff Madrigal everyone in the video lives in California
@@katieanne4052 they live here but they are not all natives from here you dummy. Most come from elsewhere.
I was never aware that Jimmy Johns was only a Midwest thing 😂😂😂
I know. There are Jimmy John's everywhere and when did a chain sandwich store become a Midwest thing?
Jimmy Johns originated in Southern Illinois!
Maida Jusufovic I know right!
Maida Jusufovic It was actually founded by a drop out from Eastern Illinois University. The same college my Dad went to! 😄
Maida Jusufovic I know! I was so confused
NO Puppy Chow and NO Culver’s WOW Buzzfeed WOW! 👏

Yessssss! It is so good!
It's in mn too! I swear mn is like the state that's least paid attention too
Been there! I like Freddies more though! But Culver's is really good too
Was anything that was really from Iowa even in this?
It's in Michigan, too. I looooveee Culvers😍
Hi, your local midwestern here. This video is very much is frustrating. 😊🤠

Maureen Murphy Yeah. I have never been out of the midwest..

It is because it was founded in Illinois
A CA: Whoop didn’t know that either 😂 Good to know!
Same but it was one of my favorite places in MI
So as little Cesar's
There is Jimmy John's in Colorado and Wyoming.
"The Midwest is like southern Canada "
No , it's like northern US
Canada is better than us sooo let's go with sourhern canada
As a Minnesotan I wouldn’t mind Mid-western being adopted by Canada
Smoll Minnesota Minnesota is Canada lite

As a Cincinnatian: YOU NEED TO PUT CHEESE ON THE SPAGHETTI AND CHILI. it's also much better with onion and hot sauce, but that's optional. BUT CHEESE. IS. NECESSARY.
YES!!! You can’t eat it WITHOUT CHEESE!!! I don’t know how you can’t eat it without cheese
I’ve never had chili in my life
Which hot sauce?
On god
YES. If you can see more than 10% of the underfood in a Cincy chili dish, there isn't enough cheese.
"The Midwest is like Southern Canada." Ha Ha! I've often thought so myself. I have family in both Toronto and Chicago, and they have a lot of similar personality traits. Extremely nice people, down to earth, great sense of humor, really into sports. And the funny thing is because I've been raised around so much family with roots in the Midwest and Canada I've always had this sort of quasi-Midwest/Canadian accent ever since I was a small child. I don't even notice it. And I was born and raised in Los Angeles. People ask me all the time if I'm from Canada or the Midwest. It gets tiring, but I understand it.
as someone from the midwest this upsets me
Sophia Swanson same
Amen sister!
You betcha lol
This is only for Americans! Hush! lmao
They didn't even try scotcheroos smh
Also our tap water tastes really good
Beg to differ (it's not good in Indiana)
Evelyn Crews Well i live near chicago and our tap water is really good
Yes in indiana tap is okay where I live
How bout Flint?
JJ Justin Jokes hmm maybe that’s an exception oof
As a Minnesotan, it made me so happy when they called tater tot hot dish by it’s proper name
Do you support trump?
same. it aint no casserole.
I’m from Wisconsin, I grew up calling it casserole. 😂😂
Also, it’s called soda and THERE IS such a thing as a bubbler.
Video contains only people who unironically use the phrase “the flyover”
Okay but where is the Deep Dish Pizza and the Cheese Curds???
Ikr 😂😂😂
Rylee Bennett Oh I like your name
+Rylee The Trash Bag I like yours to 😂

For Michigan
•Deep Dish Pizza
•Vernors
•Pasties are really good but hard to find in the mitten
•Apparently Coney dogs are a Michigan thing so yeah
Don't forget Faygo pop or Mackinac fudge.
I grew up in Minneapolis and my mom made Tater Tot Hotdish mainly during the winter and for church potlucks! Good Stuff!!
That asian dude (sorry, I could not find his name anywhere ): ) is absolutely AWESOME. Every food video he is like "YEAH, I LIKE THIS. BRING IT ON. What's next? We're eating toasted old tires from an old rally car? FOR SURE MAN!"
Eugene. but ikr XD
Fake Tyler Oakley THANKS! :D
and he always likes everything lol
And he's not bad to look at either ;)

Oh. Sorry. I did not know that the Midwest wasn’t American. I guess because I live in Michigan I am a southern Canadian.
I'm from Detroit, Michigan. Canada is south of me.
Jama Thaughn I am also and Canada is NORTH of anyone in the USA except alaska
J and A uh you might want to look at a map. Canada is southeast of Detroit
Trevor Miller where do you think Canada is?
Geographically, Canada is South of Michigan.
When they said I think I’ve heard of jimmy johns before my heart sank 😂
“Like southern Canada right?”
....yea....
How come I was not aware Jimmy John’s was only a Midwest thing?!?
Mackenzie Goeckerman because it’s not. Jimmy Johns is nationwide. Buzzfeed got it wrong
Mackenzie Goeckerman yeah I was lost by that I thought it was damn near everywhere
Theres some in Florida and new york
Because it originated in Illinois
You can't say you've tasted Midwest food if you haven't tasted cheese curds
Caitlyn Graslie lol ikr
simri cruz oh yes
wait do other places not have cheese curds what
Yesss omg
As a Wisconsinite I agree
It’s so funny that the beer cheese soup was immediately owned by Wisconsin! 😂 I guess that all we are known for!
Incognito SSS they probably told them where the food was first made at or it’s the most popular out of all the midwestern states
... and that looked like a sorry excuse for beer cheese soup too. If it's not done right it's awful, but done right... so good!
Me: *Dressed head to toe in Green Bay Packers merchandise even though I’m not from Wisconsin* NOT ONLY BEER CHEESE SOUP
Deep fried cheese curds and brats are what were known for food wise lol
The fact that the one guy said the tater tot casserole look and tasted like Jack in The Box, when we don’t even have Jack in The Box in the Midwest.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He's not from the Midwest, so what's your point?
There are Jack and the Boxes in Kansas City
The Midwest is just so cold sometimes, and when it isn't you know that it will be in a few days. A lot of our 'traditional' food is just comfort food, because it warms you from the inside out, and on some days when the cold seems inescapable, that it exactly what you need.
Not to mention most of it is cheap to make.
It starts snowing in October and doesn’t end until may
You just said it bud. This time of year, all about stews and roasts and meat and potatoes and gravy... stick to your bones stuff
Well said!

Ryan Janks ikr I was like wha?
Midwest is like everything you like put together its amazing here.
As someone from wisconsin I feel attacked (but I thank them for calling us southern Canadians)
If they put Jimmy Johns on here, then Culver's should've been added as well. I'm surprised there wasn't an ice cream dessert listed here since it was invented in the Midwest, although coincidentally someone invented something nearly identical in California at the same time.
+Brandon Cruise Graeters Ice Cream should have been mentioned.
Culvers is amazing
+Emily George butter burgers are a little slice of heaven.
Culver's is the best burger place.
Culver's is the best burger drive through ever.
anyone from the midwest cringing so hard
Harrypotter Hogwarts I’m Midwest! And you are not wrong
SO TRUE
Bro me
Yup!
very much so. I'm from Nebraska, and I've talked to people that didn't even know where that was
"The Midwest is like southern Canada"
Boi
No we are not
my funny and cute pets Michigan pretty much is. There’s literally a bridge you can take from Michigan to Canada and 80% of us don’t need a passport for it. It’s also cold enough here for us to be considered Canada. Michigan is just Canadian Florida.
More like Germany and Canada
Michigan is pretty close. We can go north and south to Canada. There’s a lot of Canadians here.
Michigan is but I'm from Indiana and sure, it gets to like -10 degrees here in the worst of winter, but we are DEFENANTLY not Canada
eh im from Minnesota its basically southern canada
I would have liked to see them try deep fried cheese curds. I absolutely love those things! Myself being from Wisconsin.
Feel bad for states that don't have Culvers. Where I live it's literally every school celebration we go to Culvers. All Wisconsinites love Culvers!!
Scarlett Nebula always drive past a culvers in Indiana but finally discovered its awesomeness last month. My life has been changed
Culvers burgers should have been here they are amazinggggg
Culver's 🍔🧀❤️
Scarlett Nebula there is Culver’s in Michigan too it is really good
there is a culver’s right by my school and on fridays after school we walk to it and there are a bunch of other shops we go to
Okay but like Wisconsin cheese curds, man. In Wisconsin Culver’s they serve deep fried cheese curds which are the best thing ever. (They serve them at A LOT of other restaurants but I especially like Culver’s cheese curds)
i have all ways liked the ones in the gas stations by the Kickapoo river (south of la cross)
They’re like the tiny tots of mozzarella sticks. Baby mozza bites.
JaysArtEscape ohh yes but in my town there’s a restaurant that has the best fliping cheese curds suprizingly it’s in Illinois, and they (West and east coasters) can beards name our states boy I’m 10 and I can name all o em also some country’s they don’t even know about
Dude jay you gotta try the chesse curds from lakefront brewery Milwaukee. Trust me its made from thick nice cheese
A cheese curd is a popcorn size cheese stick....and amazing.
The midwest is so underrated 😭💓

Puppy Chow is Chex cereal with chocolate and peanut butter deliciousness on top.

We don't have them here in central California. We have Subway and Quiznos.

Yeah Michiganders for the win!
I thought so too, we have Jimmy Johns in Arizona. I've just never had a sandwich there though.
I was just about to comment this lol

Yup no puppy chow,no woopie pies and few other things but whay ya gonna do.

Yeah!!
+Arianna Garcia yes other states have puppy chow we just don't have the desire or need to eat it ourselves. Hence the word puppy.
I found it funny that they instantly directed the beer cheese soup to Wisconsin, not hard to see why. Here in Wisconsin we love both cheese and beer with a pasion. In my small town we have 4 breweries

This was literally the worst example of midwest type foods. Where is the Chicago pizza, the St. Louis BBQ, the fried catfish, homegrown sweet corn and tomatoes, millions of styles of casseroles, fresh cheese curds, sloppy joe sandwich, tenderloin sandwich? Everything tried on this video would be considered trailer-park/street food. Yes it is here, but it is not the best there is to offer. Go home buzzfeed, you're drunk.
The fuckin Cashew Chicken
Mackinaw fudge and Detroit style or deep dish pizza should be on there as well
Where’s the top the tator?? You can’t get that anywhere but the Midwest!
Eric Hute you mean KC bbq.
I agree with everything but St. Louis bbq it’s more Kansas City
Aside from jimmy johns, I’ve never eaten any of that and I’ve lived in St, Louis my whole life. You missed a lot of Stl classics too.
You’ve never had a Chicago Style Hot Dog or Cincinnati Chili?
Beer cheese soup

The Midwest has the best foods. Beer, cheese curds, the Chicago pizza and hot dogs, the best burgers, chili, everything. The Midwest was the best place to grow up. Hell yeah!! (I would assume u live in Chicago based on the fact u love Portillos)
Jimmy John's isn't a Midwestern thing, we had it everywhere in the suburbs of Baltimore where I grew up. I will say, though, one night after work I came in to pick up an order a few minutes before closing, and they offered me some loaves of leftover french bread free of charge. That definitely gave off a friendly Midwestern vibe.
Last time I checked Nebraska, Kansas, North and South Dakota were in the midwest
